@AWESOMENESS360 nah its just a display scheme, it's the Croatian flag. For normal military operations everything is a shade of boring grey.

@LoafOfBread its fine im just confused as to what you want from me, the first message said look at my stuka but then you sent me a link to a corsair and now you are saying you wanted me to look at your yak? I did the 2 tone on your corsair but proper camo takes time and planning. As I mentioned on your corsair the parts need altering to be 0 mass and drag so when you duplicate to form the 2 tone to start with it doesn't double weight and drag. After that you need to build the parts in a way that let's you panel on them, flat sections work best so the less awkward the shape the more benefit you get from the camo shapes. In essence you can't just build something and then go ,"im going to put camo on this" it has to be planned. See my camo guide here if you want ideas. Don't get me wrong, im trying to help but I only have so many hours in a day to do anything myself.

  • RamboJutter Zeus Heavy VTOL transport 4.2 4.3 years ago

@Dimkal Thanks, glad you like it. Oh there is definately room for variants with this one, first im going to have to spend some time and rebuild the fuselage with panels and a working cargo door/bay so i can drop a jeep or 2 =) Then as you say there could be a special forces variant as well including all the biuts you mentioned as well as adding the refueling probe, possibly remake the cockpit area, obs blisters, etc. I was also thinking of a larger variant (more A400 size) with 4 wings / sets of rotors but that will take some work so will finish some more other builds first.

@NotErwin holy cow, how many forum posts have you got =) I think anytime that forum posts exceed number of builds is bad. Your builds are presentable though, just build some more.

@AsteroidAsteroidTheBook no idea really as the fuselage and wing are based on the Douglas XB-42 Mixmaster with the cockpit based on a Jet Provost and the fins based on a B24 =)

What do you deem to be underperforming on it? I originally had it accelerating faster and having a much higher top speed but on reflection this wasnt accurate to what i was trying to replicate. Or have i completely missed the point =)

  • RJ FGRII Dragon 4.2 4.5 years ago

@MethaManAerospace thanks for the reply, its good to discuss these things. I do tend to make the builds slightly nose heavy, as you say with keyboard inputs its all or nothing so you need to reduce the rotation around col - easiest way is move cog forward a bit. It also harks back to my rc model aircraft were you start off with the build being nose heavy to ensure its stable before fine tuning it (nothing worse than getting your 100hr+ build to the field and watching it fly like a sycamore leaf into the ground on first flight...)

This game, in my opinion, is only really missing the 4 axis on blocks to allow a twist, if we had that we could much more easily make aero shaped wings etc without using the triangle method which is time consuming and not exact.

  • RJ FGRII Dragon 4.2 4.5 years ago

@MethaManAerospace tha for the comments. This one was a bit heavy on wing load but otherwise relatively close to a "real" aircraft but I found that acceleration was unrealistic thus having to play with drag and thrust etc.

I always build with drag and mass off then add it where required, this stops random autoroll and other effects that come with the game calculations. It also speeds up load times (im pretty sure it was eternaldarkness that told me about this a good few years ago.)

In regards to dihedral etc. I fo use it but only on builds that would benefit, check out my ww1 builds, most have dihedral on them as that's period accurate, more modern aircraft tend not to have much dihedral and tend to be horizontal or have anhedral (i white often use anhedral on tail planes like the first etc.) Its horses for courses really.

As for thicker wing ribs at the root as opposed to the tip, I use that on quite a lot of wings (look st my weasel build for instance) however I do sacrifice this bit if I want to add a complicated colour scheme as panelling becomes more complicated otherwise.

@mikoyanster no worries it was my bad, i didnt fully read the spec before starting on it. I built custom radial engines will cowls which are 259 parts a piece, x2 and you have 518 parts before I add the rest of the plane lol.

  • How to make elevons? 4.6 years ago

@BagelPlane but doesn't that just get really complicated when you want say 5 degree pitch at 30% speed an 10% roll at 40% speed? 2 rotators everytime for me.

Xml edit all parts other than landing gear to have zero mass and drag then when the build is nearly done add mass and drag to one central part. Also pay attention to centre of mass and lift.

dont use "upload with screenshots" just use the ingame designer suite by WNP, you then just add the screenshot you want to use as a background and "photo" that. The upload with screenshots mod needs removing, its massively unstable.

@Tang0five I dont know if you have already accumulated some funky tree commands (or are a funky tree magician yourself) but the following are what i use most often (please note i havnt written any of these): for doors that are shut then open to let gear up then shut again.
    abs(rate(smooth(GearDown, 0.5)))

for doors that delay retract i.e already down.
    clamp01(smooth(-GearDown, 1.0))

    Engine 5% startup
    ((0.95 * Throttle) + 0.05) * (IAS / TAS)
