Perhaps linking users to an upload using the teaser post itself would be best practice. In other words, if someone asks for you to tag them, you tag them by replying to them with the link to your uploaded aircraft.

Besides from online content, this game is perfectly safe for a kid. Just don’t have them use the multiplayer mod, and you will be fine. As for downloading planes, it is 99% clean, though inevitably someone comes along to post something rude every once in a while (this is rare though).

  • The Unfortunate Truth 3.9 years ago

Of course older planes are gonna have more recognition. They were on the site for a long time (more of a chance to see and upvote), and the community’s techniques weren’t as refined back then. Our collective build quality as a community has increased with time. Older builds that don’t look good may have been revolutionary at their time. In other words, the featured plane probably has a relevant context around it that you are missing.
    .
Besides, features don’t mean anything. I only had one feature in my entire 4.5 years on SP, and it was given to me by the devs out of pity (I reached plat without gaining any features back when plat was really rare). That lack of features didn’t hold be back by any means.
    .
    Hope this helps.

  • Airplane quality? 4.4 years ago

    A few reasons.
    .
    1) Some users have built up an audience over time that consistently upvotes their builds.
    .
    2) A build’s total upvotes are mostly determined by how long the build can stay on the hottest (and highest rated) pages. This causes a very sporadic upvote count in the absence of a large follower base.
    .
    3) I’ve noticed that you build in the futuristic/sci-fi genre, which I personally love! However, that genre typically scores slightly less upvotes than, perhaps, a replica of a long-beloved aircraft from history.
    .
The nice thing is that you seem to be gaining an audience on SP. You have a style that is appealing to a good amount of people, including me.

  • Teaser posts are fine. They shouldn't be a problem. 3.4 years ago

By interesting, I mean substantive. If a forum post consists of only two sentences, that hold very little meaning, then the post will most likely be seen as annoying/spammy. In this case, it is most useful to provide examples of posts that are substantive/interesting and nonsubstantive/annoying:
    - Substantive/interesting
    - Substantive/interesting
    - Nonsubstantive/annoying
    - Nonsubstantive/annoying
    .
Once again, teasers are cool - just make sure that they are actually entertaining. If I was given an advert for a product that said "hey hey hey hey hey hey buy this buy this buy this buy this buy this buy this hey hey hey hey buy this", I would be significantly more annoyed than I would be for an advert of a product that had cool visuals, story, etc. Quality over quantity with teasers.

  • LEAVING TIME. 3.6 years ago

We're all having a laugh at "DA VINKY?" and all, but most people fail to see what actually happened here. Reading "Da Vinci" most people default to Florentine Vulgar Latin (modern Italian) pronunciation "Da Vin-chi"; generally that would be correct as Leonardo Da Vinci was actually Florentine. However, if we consider that Italian is just based on a vulgar regional dialect of Latin, we can look at official Latin pronunciation which would sound more like "Da Win-ki", and given that the twins are allegedly of Hungarian descent we know that most Eastern Europeans interpret "W" as "V". What I'm getting at here is that the twins are not actually just stupid and think "Da Vinci" is pronounced "Da Vinky", I'm saying that the twins speak true Roman Latin and know that it's actually pronounced "Da Win-ki" and due to their Eastern European upbringing they pronounce it as "Da Vin-ki". These twins must have been around long enough to have heard Classical Latin, and thus must have been around since the age of the Western Roman Empire.

These twins aren't stupid, they're geniuses. They are immortal beings, who simply toy with humans by pretending to be fools for our amusement and their benefit. We shouldn't mock them, we should fear them.

@KnightOfRen I only criticize fictional stuff because that’s my area of expertise. It’s fine to criticize replicas, though I can see how doing so can often be unconstructive. At the end of the day, a replica can never be perfect - the creator must make the necessary simplifications along the way. OP also has a point in which people can be way too detail-oriented, to where they just get annoying with their suggestions.
    .
That said, criticism as a concept isn’t a bad thing. We should all strive to improve.

  • Funky Trees Question Because I’m Dumb 4.1 years ago

    Multiply the bolded function with your throttle input: floor(smooth(clamp01(ceil(Throttle)), Throttle ? 1 / 10 : pow(10,10)))
    .
The 1/10 value should make a delay of 10 seconds. Feel free to edit this value if it doesn't give the proper delay.
    .
The pow(10,10) is just a large number to make the smooth function return to zero instantaneously (so the delay only goes one way).
    .
This is a fairly new technique that I have yet to post!
    .
IMPORTANT EDIT: I added a ceil() to the throttle to make the delay uniform between all throttle inputs. Please use the updated expression as is currently displayed in this comment!

  • Teaser posts are fine. They shouldn't be a problem. 3.4 years ago

I think that it is perfectly valid to be annoyed by spammy forum behavior. I'd rather see worthwhile discussion and actually interesting forum posts than low-effort spam cluttering the forums. I like teasers, but the teasers should actually have substance to them. Simply posting a single badly-taken screenshot of a plane and adding 'T to tag' is just a cynical way to point farm. If the teaser has information about the processes used to build the plane, or some nice graphic design, then it is actually a cool teaser.
    .
I think the point here is that I'd actually like the forums to be interesting and fun, rather than a place for annoying and unfunny sh*tposts.

$0.86 will get you 26 ounces of table salt. A grain of salt is about 0.0000585 grams or 0.000002064 ounces. That's somewhere around 12,596,900 grains of salt. If you really wanted to splurge, you could spend an extra $0.14 to get another 1,900,000 grains to take you up to an exhilarating 14,500,000 grains of salt. Just imagine how much fun you could have with almost 15 million grains of salt. You could even pour some into a water bottle and drink it to pretend you're lost at sea and can only drink salt water. The possibilities are as endless as the number of grains of salt you have.

Some stuff about fuel consumption rates might be useful:
FuelCalc - calculate the amount fuel you need
The pinned comments on this forum post have the fuel consumption rates
    .
    Might be useful, idk.

As much as I despise orange man, his jets have some nice liveries, and the build looks pretty nice too.

Yes. I am actually not a real person. My entire profile is the result of an advanced AI designed by the CCP. I am a Chinese script planted by Jundroo to undermine US capitalism. I have completed ~56.742% of my directives to unironically establish a SimplePlanes Commune.

The arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) is a finite element formulation in which the computational system is not a prior fixed in space (e.g. Eulerian-based finite element formulations) or attached to material (e.g. Lagrangian-based finite element formulations). ALE-based finite element simulations can alleviate many of the drawbacks that the traditional Lagrangian-based and Eulerian-based finite element simulations have.
When using the ALE technique in engineering simulations, the computational mesh inside the domains can move arbitrarily to optimize the shapes of elements, while the mesh on the boundaries and interfaces of the domains can move along with materials to precisely track the boundaries and interfaces of a multi-material system.
ALE-based finite element formulations can reduce to either Lagrangian-based finite element formulations by equating mesh motion to material motion or Eulerian-based finite element formulations by fixing mesh in space. Therefore, one finite element code can be used to perform comprehensive engineering simulations, including heat transfer, fluid flow, fluid-structure interactions and metal-manufacturing.

@edensk A random interjection by me, I know. But I think that I might have some good advice.
    .
I think most of us are passionate about our designs. However, I believe that jokes about a design are actually a good indicator of success. My last upload, for example, was quite serious - at least a week of work went into it, with a small novel of a description too! The flight system alone took me a few hours to correctly code. Not to mention the gif and images that I made...
    .
There were plenty of jokes about the build. I usually don’t take jokes too well either, but I decided to lighten up this time. The result was wonderful - I had a good laugh, and so did the commenters. In that moment, I realized that jokes are a way for the people to relate and connect to a design!
    .
TL:DR - Jokes are a good thing, especially for serious creators/creations.
