    I don't like the moderators.

I mean, just to describe a few: one is eternally dark, another is an inactive picture and one is an extinct soft-bodied bilaterian. I mean, they even hired a rodent. How ridiculous is that? At best, out of the whole team, only one is mediocre.

That's a stupid suggestion. Punching a friend/family member in that face and throwing their device in the bin is ridiculous for one reason.

You have to disconnect the device from the WiFi before throwing it in the bin. Otherwise, it's still in multiplayer.

I studied engineering in school for 2 years, studied aerospace engineering for a further 2 years in college and then aerospace technology in university for 3 years. I've worked with center lathes, milling machines, 3D printers, CNC machines, laser cutters, learned the basic principles on how to build and manufacture aircraft, I learned the physics behind them and helped design one for a group project. But even after all of this, after all these years of searching for the answer, I still don't know...

  • Human stupidity amuses me. 4.8 years ago

I mean he's not wrong, but he's not right either. Air disasters are heavily publicised and put people off flying a lot, despite flying being the safest mode of transport. Thus it's within the company's best interests to buy safe aircraft so passengers don't get all scared about falling out the sky and splatting all over the nearest hillside.
    .
look at the 737 MAX and how many companies have pulled out on orders from that and flying the aircraft in their fleets. All for the sake of 2 crashes. It's because people don't want to fly on something they've heard a lot of bad news about, regardless of whether they're at more risk of being in a car crash, etc. Aircraft crashes aren't as normalised as other accidents with other forms of transport and thus when something goes wrong, it's comparatively speaking, blown out of proportion.
    .
So we can basically sum the issue up with:
    .
"unsafe" planes = less customers flying = less money
    .
"safe" planes = more customers flying = more money
    .
Thus it is accurate to say that commercial planes are designed to be safe because that makes it a better money making machine.
    .
HOWEVER, what does bother me in that comment is: "maybe because they're light (no metal structure)". Which implies:
    .
    metal structure = unsafe plane
    .
I think we can all agree that this is by far the worst implication of that comment.

@SledDriver I've had a lot of interaction with him. I've barely interacted with you and yet I'm a regular user. Take it from me, he's a nice guy. I think it's pretty harsh to judge someone based on one singular interaction. I've done questionable things, you've done questionable things, nobody's perfect. We all have off days. On top of that there are a multitude of different reasons and interpretations that occurred during your singular interaction with him. In my experience as a moderator, I can safely say there are 2 sides to every conflict and subjectively speaking, both sides are in the wrong.
    .
So I kindly ask you to retract that judgement and give @Mod a chance instead of jumping to conclusions. Like I say, I'm sure there's times where you've wished people didn't jump to conclusions on you. I don't mean to be confrontational or anything, I'm simply asking you to keep and open mind.

  • Mistakes Even Advanced Builders Make 4.7 years ago

I disagree heavily with number 4. I guess you could say every fibre of my engineer brain hates it.
    .
Turn rates vary with speed and I've seen some pretty agile fighters have high turn rates at low speeds (thus not pulling too many GS). I suspect this is what the builds in SP you're referring to are trying to do. Granted you shouldn't be pulling 360 noscopes at Mach 2 in under 4 seconds. Like you say, it would crush the pilot.
    .
However, being able to do this in SP is not the fault of the aircraft's creator, but rather the lack to system/physics emulation on control surfaces in SP.
    .
The thing is, air resistance on the control surface impacts how easily you can move the control surfaces.
    .
The faster you fly the harder it is to move the control column, thus mechanically limiting your rate of turn (fly by wire systems have an artificial resistance input which a computer adjusts according to air speed).
    .
This doesn't translate well to builds in SP because you've have to make one of the two choices:
    - have a plane the turns normally at high speeds but too slow at low speeds.
    - have a plane that turns normally at low speeds but too fast at high speeds.
    .
In this situation, the creator of the build is not at fault, but rather the limitations of the game.
    .
Other than that, the other points you raise are quite valid.

@SledDriver I mean, myself and another mod agreed that it was a form of conflict. If you have an issue with that, you're having a disagreement with half of the mod team. I mean, I'll say this now; we're not out to get you. Trust me us moderators are pretty good at damage control and looking at a situation objectively, so it's unlikely you'll be banned or something just for being you. However, it doesn't do you any favours when you start making targeted attacks on one of the mods just because you personally think they aren't qualified for the position.

Besides, Mod never directly stated that "child" was a curse word. He told you to stop calling each other names, which you objectively were. If I was to say "you're a baby", that would be in the same category.

  • Part count bias on the site 5.6 years ago

It's not weird for you first point.
    .
Detailed builds with lots of parts attract attention. They look good which in of itself a skill. That player isn't obligated to create builds for members of the community. They build to their needs and to what their device can handle.
    .
Other users will upvote for the skill of that build in terms of looks. Sure, it's difficult to get something to fly nice, but it's harder to get it to look good. People appreciate the thought that's gone into the detail.
    .
I think it's unfair that you expect users to create builds that are functional to your standards. If a player deems it suitable to fly for themselves, then that should be reason enough for them to upload it. It's a bit unfair to expect perfect results from them if that's not something they want to achieve. that's not to say I'm against constructive criticism, by all means tell them how to improve, but to fully expect them to cater to your needs is a bit unfair. It's their choice and their loss to not take on that criticism.
    .
Again, i think it's unfair to expect them to release a mobile version. By all means request it on individual builds. But ultimately, it's their choice and they shouldn't have to feel pressured into doing something they don't really want to do.
    .
Yes, I love a good functional build that's mobile friendly. Nobody here is saying they don't want that overall for the site. But it's unfair to place expectations like the ones mentioned in the post on users. It's their choice to make and they shouldn't be criticized for something they don't want to do just because of an expectation.

  • Severe Concerns about Jundroo and SR2 6.0 years ago

As much as appreciate your side of the story, I have to disagree. Making games is like an art, music if you will. A strange analogy if you will, but bear with me on this.
    .
First and foremost, Jundroo is a very small dev team. They're not backed by big corporations that have the capacity to throw out thousands of advertisements to start rolling in the money. They don't have that luxury.
    .
As a result, they have to introduce new games to make it worthwhile. Sure, I agree, Simpleplanes is a fantastic game, but as you pointed out it's a very niche market that doesn't attract a massive audience like the triple A titles out there. Thus, there profits from release will decline rapidly in comparison to other big games like GTA 5. Even if they push out updates, it doesn't change the fact that the game isn't gaining popularity like it once did. Hence SR2.
    .
Sure, you can argue SR2 is a "ripoff" of KSP, but it hasn't even been released yet so that's somewhat an unfair judgement to make. But even if it was like KSP, what's the problem? Just because Def Leppard basically invented hair metal doesn't mean the likes of Bon Jovi and Journey should be put down because they followed with a similar style.
    .
As for why they should include SR2 features in SP, like two different albums from the same artist, it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense to take one song from say Hysteria and stick it on Pyromania. Jundroo clearly wants to improve on SR. And
to simply update SP with new parts from SR2 is a bit of a gamble in terms of the actual long term user benefits when you consider the overall costing behind the scenes.
    .
So regardless of whether you feel it's right, it's Jundroo's only option to keep feeding games like SP with updates/content. As they say, money doesn't grow on trees.

As QuitePossiblyMangled stated below, repainting a build is not considered an improvement on the site. It can take 2 seconds to repaint a vehicle, which is unfair on the user that originally made the build. If you spent a whole hour tapping on a few blocks to recolour them, imagine the amount of time it took them to build it.
    .
If we allowed these builds, it's possible a large portion of the site would just consist of repaints from people looking to make quick points and that's not the type of content we want promoted on the site.

  • Why In The World Would A Builder Put Flaps On Trim? 5.5 years ago

I have to disagree with you on this. Sometimes it actually makes a lot of sense to use trim instead of VTOL for things like flaps. For instance, flaps placed on a conventional aircraft (if done right) actually force the nose of the aircraft downward as extra lift is being generated further back than it would normally. To compensate for this, you need an elevator input to to counter the downward pitch. However, by assigning flaps to trim, you can reduce the downward pitching motion proportional to flap position and free up the VTOL controls for something else important.
    .
It's a very efficient way of killing two birds with one stone.
    .
If you're having to fight the pitching up of an aircraft, then you've either exceeded the intended cruise speed (which believe it or not isn't 100% throttle all the time) or the aircraft is badly designed.
    .
I'm not sure what your point about deploying flaps at speed is, you can still deploy them anytime using another input method and the same can be said about the landing gear. VTOL input doesn't magically stop you from deploying flaps at Mach 2.
    .
In conclusion, it's a game. If people want to use trim for flaps, that's their decision. It's their build and they can do what they like with it.

Usually the best and probably most obvious thing thing to do is get a new pet. If you've got a hole in your heart, fill it with something new.
    .
I had 2 gerbils that died when I was about 13. I was a bit upset because they were my first proper pet. As in I paid for them and their cage.
    .
Afterwards there was a part of my life that was somewhat empty. But I didn't want to go back to owning a gerbil due to the short lifespan and little gain from owning them.
    .
One day before my birthday, I persuaded my mum to go look in a pet shop and there were these ferrets caged up. I pestered my mum to get one and she told me "no" and that I had to persuaded my dad first. He also said "no".
    .
But I think my mum must have noticed that I was missing something. The day after my birthday, without informing my dad, we went to the pet shop and got two ferrets, no questions asked. My dad was furious at the time. But damn, hands down one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's like owning a dog, but more energy and less maintenance since they sleep for around 20 hours a day.
    .
Fast forward 7 years and they're still going and my dad loves them. Sadly, they're showing their age. My brother's in particular. He has a tumor on this thyroid gland the size of a tennis ball. It doesn't seem to bother him though, but he's always been as tough as nails. I don't think he'll make it through the winter though.
    .
But he's had a good run and has lived a good life. No doubt will at the very least get another when he and the grieving passes. I'll probably make a post on him and his life when he takes the rainbow road, but a one for celebration.
    .
That's the key. Remember the good times and be happy that he was a big part of your life. He had a good run too and you no doubt have got a few good laughs out of him and his life story. .
Sadly, all stories come to an end. But when you finish one book you start another. It might not seem like it now, but some day, maybe in the very near future, you'll have a pet that's just as good as Ozzie. Different. But just as good.

  • How do you feel about the F-35? 5.5 years ago

I've studied aerospace for 5 years and worked in engineering since leaving uni, so I'd like to think my opinion counts for something. But before I speculate, there's some important information that needs to be said by me.
    .
Firstly and most importantly, the F-35 was not primarily designed for air superiority. People make the assumption that because it looks similar to an F-16 that it must be a 5th generation F-16, which it isn't.
    .
Secondly, any speculation on the aircraft is literally just that. Speculation. Industry is riddled with secrets acts, confidential information, ITAR regulations, official sensitive documents, etc. So to say you know something about the F-35 with 100% certainty without working on or with it is ignorant at the very least, unless of course it's covered by the freedom of information act (or equivalent) such as things like government spending. To give some perspective on regulations, I've heard tales about objects as simple as keyboards being under ITAR control.
    .
    Anyway, moving on.
    .
The F-35 is primarily designed for the attack and close air support role. It's more apt to think of it as a 5th generation A-10 than an F-16. It does, as with almost all military aircraft these days come with multirole capability, so it can perform other roles such as air superiority.
    .
Physically, the F-35 isn't pretty. It's quite a fat aircraft as 5th generation aircraft go. This is probably because of the nature of the aircraft. The F-35B plays a large part in the overall F-35 design in this instance due to it's specific need for a powerful single engine for VSTOL purposes. Now this strikes me as having two problems:
    - Drag
    - Heat signature
A fat air frame tends to mean more parasitic drag, which means your aircraft will find it harder to accelerate and easier to lose energy. Meaning I believe that the F-35 would fair poorly in a conventional dogfight. And a larger engine with a larger exhaust means you'll have a larger heat signature too, which might be a problem if your aircraft relies on stealth as passive sensors like IRST would be able to locate your exhaust plume much easier.
    .
However, what the F-35 lacks physically, it makes up for software. The F-35 is basically a flying supercomputer and most likely one of the main reasons the Joint Strike Fighter program has cost is expected to cost 1.5 trillion at the end of its lifespan. It utilises some of the most advanced data linking technology in the aviation world, a feat which puts even the

@Rodrigo110 you also tend to get a lot of ""broken"" Apple devices in repair shops. They use lousy joining methods and bad soldering which result in bad connections and other things.
    .
You see more windows PCs with viruses simply because there is a lot more of them. Having an apple device doesn't make you invincible to viruses.
    .
Besides there are a lot of other factors to consider. Apple devices in comparison to others tend to have a shorter product lifecycle than your typical product. Which also means they're less likely to get viruses that way.
    .
I've been using windows for as long as I can remember. I've never had a virus, because I have a thing called common sense which tells me not to do stupid things on the internet which would put a virus on my computer. A shadey email? Delete it. Questionable website? Don't go on it.
    .
You also have to remember a lot of the older generation aren't computer literate and when they get a device, they usually get something cheap and cheerful (basically not apple). They're obviously more prone to getting viruses than you average user.
    .
In conclusion. There's nothing wrong with a windows computer. What you observe in a repair shop isn't as simple as you make it out to be and your observations are effected by things like quantity, affordablness and user experience. You can't blame Microsoft or windows for those things.

I lived in a time before memes and this kind of stuff still happened. The problem is, people will pick on you for an reason they can, they'll even make stuff up and make fun of you for the thing they made up about you.
    .
People made fun of me because I used to have pokemon cards after they went out of fashion. People made fun of me because I liked dinosaurs. It's easy to blame memes because they can be linked to a lot of these problems, but correlation doesn't mean causation.
    .
People generally like to feel socially superior and will try to reinstate that whenever they can when the moment is right. That's why you get a lot of people talking behind another's back. Scratch that, everyone does it, even if it's the tiniest detail.
    .
Sadly, this kind of behaviour won't go away anytime soon.
    .
I can't speak for everyone here, but I was pretty severely bullied throughout middle school and high school. I've found the best tricks in the book are to:
    .
    1. Keep calm. Half of those that bully are looking for a reaction of some kind to give them an egotistical power trip, they'll stop if they don't get what they're looking for.
    .
    2. Look at them like there's something wrong with them. Like they've just spontaneously defecated everywhere. This usually makes them feel somewhat uncomfortable. Because nobody likes being looked at like they've just laid the world's largest stool in their underwear.
    .
    3. If they use an old insult, challenge them with it. Firstly, use step 2. and then smile and ask them if they have a better insult up their sleeve. e.g:
As I said previously, I got called a lot of names for liking dinosaurs, but "dinosaur boy" was by far the most overused. After a few years my response boiled down to: "c'mon, I've heard that one for the last 2 years, surely you got something better than that to call me? Go on, have another go, try harder."
That usually makes them feel like a spoon. Like they're unoriginal and a bit of a sheep. But also like their insult didn't do any damage to you whatsoever.
    .
I mean, try those tricks under your own discretion. But they worked for me.

@FlavoredToothpicks You say that the rules are inconsistent and yet you only give one example. One which has not only been explained multiple times, but more often than not, the end user asks a moderator if they can post it. For the example you gave, end users were allowed to post such builds on the premise that they were replicas of existing aircraft. If you do find an inconsistency, tag a moderator and we'll either explain the situation to you or rectify the issue depending on the circumstances.
    .
The site rules are not "arbitrary" as you claim. Again, I've said this numerous times: decisions are often run through the Moderator chat before a final verdict is given. If inconsistencies are found, they are brought up there and rectified. The idea that these decisions are based on a whim is nothing short of incorrect.
    .
You took part in the spam, it doesn't matter if you started it. If you saw one of your friends act violently, I'd like to think you wouldn't join in, so why should this be any different?
    .
And I'd also like to think that in a court room, you'd act with respect towards moderators and not mock their decision in a non-constructive manner.
    .
If you don't like the way the site is run here, then don't participate at all. But the fact of the matter is that the vast majority of people here like how the site is run and if that isn't the case, we certainly haven't been made aware of it. I've never been told about any issues regarding the Mod team and if I did, it was after their account got banned, thus likely retaliation.

Just remember that a lot of people out their care about you and probably wouldn't know what to do if you were to suddenly disappear from their lives. You perhaps won't see it now, but I assure you that people do care. I appreciate these a perhaps cliche words, but I can't express enough how serious I am when I say it.
    .
Surround yourself with those you can trust and don't be afraid to talk to them about it. If you're like me you'll probably initially think that they don't want to hear your problems, or you don't want to burden them with your problems. But that is the worst mistake you can make. Your friends will hear you out and try their best to help out where they can. Just imagine how you'd react if they came to you for help. You'd help them, so why should your friends think any different, right?
    .
I also suggest seeing a therapist or councilor if you can. They will help you massively by giving you new perspectives and suggestions to help improve your cognitive state.
    .
And don't be afraid to indulge in what you enjoy. Even the simplest things like listening to music. This song by Vega helped motivate me a lot when I was at my worst. Not saying it will do the same for you, but I believe you'll have your own niche motivation like this.
    .
But I'm sure I speak for most of us in this community when I say this; We've got your back.

@tsampoy Don't mention the H word. Or they'll get you in your sleep and replace you with a custard cream like they did with Tully.

  • How kpop ruined my relationship 3.7 years ago

My dating experience is next to none existent, so I'm not sure there's any worth to my comment.
    .
I'd give it a few days and see if she realises that she reacted too harshly. Fallouts in relationships are inevitable at some stage or another, nobody's perfect. But what makes a relationship work is mutual understanding of one another. It's fine to fall out over things like this, but only if you take time out and think "hmmmm, maybe I got the wrong end of the stick" or "maybe I reacted too harshly".
    .
The fact you made an active attempt to reach out to her for your mistake shows a level of understanding from your behalf. Now she has to return the favour to hear you out. If she doesn't, she's probably not right for you or at least not mature enough.

  • The integration of the dev console on mobile was half-assed to put it straight. 4.3 years ago

@jamesPLANESii And if you're into the game to the point where you're particular about the FoV, then the chances are you have an SP account.
    .
And why does WNP78 suddenly have to make stuff to a higher standard for a piece of equipment that the majority of people in SP don't use? You're telling me you'd rather WNP78 spent more time perfecting the dev console than integrating cool mods that everyone will use? That seems like a very closed minded way of looking at the situation.
    .
And again, WNP78 clearly stated that it's possible for users to mess around with it, not knowing what it is or does and then complain when everything goes wrong. People younger than the age of 13 are playing this game and they probably don't yet have the capacity to understand the implications of activating such a feature. Let alone correctly diagnose the "problems" they may face when they start accidentally interacting with it.
    .
Think of it as a child lock. You wouldn't give Tide Pods to an 8 year old and expect them not to try and eat it with 100% certainty, let alone without any context to what it is or does.
    .
The very fact someone wants to know how to activate the dev console shows they already have an understanding of what it does and the implications of it. Again, much like the developer settings on Android.
    .
Furthermore, Jundroo is a small team of people. Would you rather they worked on updates to SP and SR2 or spent time repeatedly diagnosing and informing kids via email on how to fix an issue that could have easily been prevented?

Dev consoles aren't something the average user will use. The clue's in the name "Dev" console. the activation is also very similar to the activation of the developer settings on android devices; tap the build number 5 times. Again, developer settings isn't something the average user uses.
    .
And I feel like stowing the keyboard is a minor inconvenience at best and to say they keyboard doesn't fit at all is a bit of an exaggeration since the screenshots clearly show 100% of the actual dev console interface, with the only thing being cut off being the auto-fill, which isn't even a necessity.
    .
All things considered, for a first version from a team of Jundroo's size, I'd say it's more than adequate.
