@HuskyDynamics01 Nice.
Yeah, sometimes the allure of the Faux Preset is too strong.
Funny thing, the other day the patterns on it just... disappeared. Wonder if I should've submitted a bug report for that...
@HuskyDynamics01 Oh absolutely.
Messing around with textures a bit for the first time a moment ago (if only for a few minutes), it's clear the compatibility with the old system may not be quite as great.
Of course, all this doesn't seriously impact the crafts as they were designed, but it's nice if you want your craft to look a little different with only a few clicks of a button. Want a red plane? Boom, red plane. Blue plane? Beige plane? Green plane? No problem, all those work quickly. It also helps quickly get yourself oriented if you want to modify another paintjob; you immediately know what slot changes what.
Frankly I'm surprised none of the Devs told you.
At the same time, most of the old 1.2(?)-era stock craft don't use it properly either, including (ironically) the P-51. So, uh, Devs don't seem to use it either. Hm.
For all I know, I'm one of a small handful of people who actually bother to get the paints to line up.
@HuskyDynamics01 Gotcha.
Not every part, as far as I'm aware, has a direct tie (or at least not one that's obvious). Some of them do appear to be unused (such as the unrepentant yellow).
Probably the easiest way to work it out is to take TutorialPlane and see what changes between presets.
I'm a bit short on time, but I'll boot up SP2 to see what goes where.
Aight.
First is fuselage (and other Primary slots), second is wing, third is surfaces, fourth is Trims, fifth is propeller hubs, sixth is engine nozzles, seventh is tires, eighth is canopies, ninth I think is pylons, tenth appears unmapped, annnd pretty much everything past that I believe is also unmapped, except for sixteen which is glass and nineteen which is instruments.
Is that what you meant? Or did you mean something else?
If my memory serves me right, going from right to left and then down a row...
Fuselage, wing, control surface, trim, gun barrel,
engine nozzle, tire, cockpit, ?, ?, ?,
Glass, ?, instrument(?), ?, ?
It's been a while since I've played SP, so my memory is foggy. That's the gist, though.
@HuskyDynamics01 ... I would figure someone would work it out themselves after a few years when finding how ugly other presets would look if done wrong, but apparently not.
When each part type is taken out of the inventory its paint is already mapped to a given slot (e.g. the top right being minigun and cannon barrels, if my memory serves). This is reflected in the other presents (e.g. tires being grey, canopies usually being blue/grey, etc.), which all behave accordingly. The whole point here is that if mapped correctly, all presets can be used while looking as they are supposed to. If your plane's fuselage turns yellow when switching to "Military" you've done something very wrong.
Not all craft with these mistakes have them especially badly (as mentioned, Stinker in SP2 is mostly good with the notable exceptions of the canopy and tires), but it's still annoying. It should be noted, of course, that's there's a cockpit and a glass preset. The cockpit colour varies by preset, while glass is always the same.
The paint presents only work if mapped correctly, otherwise they have errors. Sometimes these errors are only noticeable on some presets but not others; sometimes they're incredibly obvious in all of them (usually the worse with the unchanging/barely changing paints on the bottom and right).
@Randomplayer That wasn't directed at you, thus the break before I tagged you.
Though it is often very tempting to let a missile loose. I'll be flying a GLF-80A and have the Hellpit of BuzzBird missile selected (both of which have high firing angles) and just... mmmm I need it I need it.
I rarely do, though, since I have some manners.
Issue is when someone blows you up it's hard to tell if it was an on purpose with intent to anger you (thus warranting retaliation or a kick), or just an accident/not expecting to actually do anything/hit.
@Randomplayer The issue a lot of the time is that nothing is standardized. SP became less video game engineering and more actual engineering mixed with game design, since the most advanced craft were essentially a flight model built using mathematics wearing a plane-shaped decorative skin (a way of doing things that, if I'm to let my own opinions shine through for a moment, I quite strongly dislike; it's incredible disingenuous). Different builders would do this to varying extents. Some people did it to the max (were the actual functional part is a fuel tank, engine, and a couple wing parts), while some did it barely (maybe some modified drag or engine thrust here or there). Obviously the former is far more powerful than the latter since it rejects all normal limitations from SP engineering in favour of straight math.
On top of that, how do you determine that two aircraft are a match? A 6th gen UFO triangle is certainly above a 4th gen, but what about a budget 4th gen vs a very maneuverable and expensive 4th gen?
It really doesn't help that for some stupid reason respawning in place gives you zero preserved airspeed, meaning you just fall to Earth. If you're shot down you need to climb again from the ground.
@Kav There is singleplayer of course, but without the ability to actually make anything or explore much it's definitely the lesser mode. Multiplayer is the main draw at present.
Be sure to make good decisions.
Be responsible if you're carrying munitions; carelessly crashing nearby somebody and blowing them up one too many times while they're trying to do something may get you kicked from the server.
@StockPlanesRemastered Mass is measured in kilograms. SP craft use metric internally and then convert to imperial for interfaces. This includes using kN for thrust. You can even see this in SP1 by outputting propeller thrust to a variable.
Probably would've gotten there faster had you been using metric.
@Mrcooldude The novelty wears off within a few hours, unless you've actually found something to do. A lot of it is just getting blown up because of troublemakers or people being irresponsible with planes carrying armaments. I'm sure it'll be better once actual building is available with the full game. Old planes have poor compatibility with the new features, particularly Chad; you can't enter an old cargo plane unless it was made with paneling (which basically nobody does anymore since hollow fuselage).
@StockPlanesRemastered kN is the correct form. What I mean is that I believe it was still giving me foot-pounds even though I have the game set to metric units. Horsepower too.
@Pakdaaircraftindustries well you could just get out and push as Boeing said. As long as you can find a stable orbit then you have all the time in the world.

That looks like it says "hninunhil hai a brothgs". Hard to handwrite when you don't have hands.
What's worrying me is that basically all the stock craft in SP2 just... aren't simple. At all. Most of them have complicated FT functions which are not remotely beginner friendly or realistic to emulate unless you've taken an engineering course to understand the math behind them and why it was done that way.
oh my
Oh god if it's happened again I will be dead laughing
@keiyronelleavgeek566 ... Has it happened again?
I believe the fuselage should be an oval shape, not circular, if my memory serves me right.
@TOMAIR0808 Oh 2016, where did you go?
@TOMAIR0808 Nine. Years.

@SuperSuperTheSylph I couldn't make sense of it.

@LunarEclipseSP I looked up Nikke Doro, yes. Not fond of what I saw.

Ah.
+1Gacha goonbait game. Yuck.
Upvote is for the craft itself, not for the source material. Even then, leaving it is highly reluctant.
It gave something.
What on Earth.
Why was the first search result an NSFW reddit post.
@LunarEclipseSP Google gives nothing.
Are you firing them at random people?

@SupremeDorian WAIT IT WILL?!?
Damn do I wish I knew that earlier!
I have a Autonomobile to exploit!
@COM9927 Yeah it was months ago.
@Kav ok
+1@Monarchii If it's only 7 wings then does that mean the stock craft aren't PEA?
Wasp has far more than seven. (Original Wasp, to be clear.)
@Kav ?

Bro is younger than the Wii U.
I've been playing for nearly nine years and have barely improved.
How do you people improve so much so quickly!?
Was months ago, I believe.
They announced it IIRC.

Nice paint
@Monarchii You need to make other forums (or unlisteds) to act as folders for categories. This just doesn't work well.
