Part 1 of 5. Simplplanes 2 Stock Planes review Redux

20.0k StockPlanesRemastered  yesterday

So when the first Simpleplanes 2 demo dropped i did a review of most of the new stock planes. I say most of because i omitted the helicopters. I knew we'd get more and always planned to review the newer ones, but I didn't know how much things would change, and that pretty much every one of them would be changed. So I'm going to do the whole thing over again and include ALL the new planes, cars, and yes, even the helicopters. This will go in straight alphabetical order, in groups of seven or eight.

This is Part 1 of 5.

Starting off, we have the Adder by Dots. Based on the F-16 A and C models, the Adder features 8 hardpoints, with a mix of Radar and Infrared guided missiles. Although VERY agile the Adder (not unlike it's real world counterpart) tends to bleed energy going into turns or going vertical. Although very easy to fly I still have yet to reach this jets top speed but it's well north of 1100 mph at altitude

Trivia:
-The Adder has a scale of 1:1 with the F-16 with slight difference in length, width and height. It has an empty and loaded weight of less than 1000lbs of error to the F-16 making it the closest so far in the game to it's irl counterpart.
-It's seat as noted by Dots is NOT angled back at 35 degrees as is one of the features of the F-16, this is subject to change.

Dimensions:
Wingspan: 31.6 ft
length: 49.3 feet
Height:17.1 ft
Weight: 18,174lb to 25782lb

Engine:
1x 7497 lb Afterburning, low bypass turbofan producing 162 kn of thrust

Weapons:
4x Katztretch 341 lb Active Radar missiles.
4x Moth 185 lb Infrared missiles

Next we have the Aeon by Baconeggs, based on a Toyota Celica. The Aeon is a 2 seat sports car that's plenty of fun to drive around. Drifting is the name of the game hear, so look up the Scandinavian flick if you want to utilize this car! Oh did I mention drifting? Pull the trigger to rip a sick skid.
While slightly unstable it has a top speed of 160mph.

Trivia:
-the Aeon's former name was SB86, a reference to the Toyota AE86. Made famous by the Anime InitialD, It also featured popup headlights.
-with an activation group, the headlights are activated. Then, the trim slider can be used to independently move the headlights up and down. this is a common mod on popup headlight cars.
-Aeon appears to be a spelling change of Ion, as in the Saturn Ion. Could this be an homage to that car?
-The Aeon's engine is labeled as a 1.3L 2-Rotor.

Dimension:
width: 6.5 ft
Length:14.7 ft
Height: 4.7 ft
Weight: around 3000 lbs.

Engine:
1x 186 lb V8 putting out 231 hp and 178 ft-lbs of torque at 8500 rpm sending power to the rear wheels by way of a 5 speed transmission

Third, by Dots we have the Arbitrator. Our first stock eastern block aircraft (In Simpleplane 2), based on the SU-35, featuring thrust vectoring and air to air weapons. It's an easy to fly jet fighter aircraft with solid performance. At altitude it has a speed of 930 making it a little slower than it's competitors.

Dimensions:
Wingspan: 47.9 ft
length: 73.5 ft
Tall: 18.4 ft.

Engine:
2x SP-31 TVC Afterburning, low bypass, thrust vectoring turbofans weighing 9307 lbs and producing 114 kn of thrust.

Weapons:

2x CRIR 253lb infrared missiles
4x IR 733 lb Infrared missiles
4x SAR 733 lb Sami Active Radar missiles.

Fourth, by HuskyDynamics It's Just a harmless nun. with a gun. It's greatest defense is its ridiculously low speed. Based on the Polikarpov Po-2, made infamous by the night witches, The Babushka is a single engine biplane designed for close air support. It featured a mouse controlled rear gun which is essential for protecting against air threats. capable of just under 100 mph, It will not reach 10000 feet.

Dimensions:
Wingspan: 32.2 ft
Length: 25.2 Ft
Height: 10 Ft
Weight: 3800 lbs.

Engine:
397 lb dry weight 5 cylinder radial cranking out 270 horsepower at 1688 rpm with a peak torque of 1050 Ft-lbs.

Armament:
1x rear facing machine gun, mouse controlled
2x boom 25s
8x HVAR rockets.

Boogity Boogity Boogity! Let's go racing, Boys! Fifth, again by HuskyDynamics: The Backdraft is a combination of the early Gen 4 and Gen 6 Nascar cup cars. It has the body of a Ford Taurus with the engine and transmission of the Dark Horse cup car. It has a top speed of 211 mph. It's tendency to pull to the left on the straights is indicative of it's oval racing design. Despite struggling in hairpin turns it is surprisingly nimble and easy to drive.

Dimensions:
6.5 feet wide
16.1 feet long
4.8 feet tall.

3200 lbs

Engine:
1x 952 lb dry weight V8 producing 625 horse power at 6063 rpm and cranking 677 ft-lb of torque, hooked up to a 5 speed transmission putting power to the rear wheels.

Trivia:
Backdraft is not only the name of a Hotwheels car (Ute style cabriolete with a surfboard sticking up that gave it the siloete of a class c sports car) but it is the name of an aerodynamic phenomenon gen 4 and above Stock cars suffer from, where at speeds above 200mph and approaching 210, the air moving around the rear and over the spoiler of a cup car curls back over and around, creating so much parasitic drag that it stops the car from accelerating, unless more horsepower is added, or the rear of the car is modified, often against Nascar regulations. The only legal means of curtailing this phenomenon is to join up with another car, or more, locking bumper to bumper, and drafting that air over the next car and the next, so that it doesn't create drag. 7 time champion Jimmie Johnson and his CC Chad Knaus would modify his race car early in his career to dump this air off the back of the car, preventing this. They had to stop when fellow competitor and rival Kevin Harvick and his CC Allan Gustavsen got caught.

sixth, by WhoTookCarter
and based on the late 90's and early millennial Ford Mustang GT, the Bronte is a perfect answer to the Aeion in that it is a high torque, high horse power sports car that can do it all. Thanks to it's smaller v8 it is lighter than you'd expect, and has a top speed of 152 mph. although slower for a street car, it has high acceleration. If you feel like Drifting, and wiping out any would be spectators, you gotta turn off the driver assist

Dimensions:
6.1 ft wide
15.9 ft long
4.7 ft tall

Engine:
661 lb V8 putting out 420 hp and 408 ft-lb torque at 6750 rpm sending power through a 5 speed tranny to the rear wheels.

Trivia:
-According to the creator, this is his car in real life.

seventh, and last for this round is the Bugger by Mod. It's not the little bugger no more! No longer based on a go-kart, and formerly based on a formula buggy, The Bugger is now based on a regular dune buggy... another common modification of the Volkswagen beetle. It's nimble, both stable on and offroad and tops out at 174mph

Trivia:
-My Grandma raced these in the 60s.
-The engine's name is 610 hp V8, but it only puts out 440 hp. That's a lot of transmission loss, Mod!

Dimensions:
Width: 11.3 ft
Length: 13.8 ft
Height: 6 ft
Weight: 2600 lbs

Engine:
1x "610hp" 661 lb V8 putting out 440hp and 385 ft-lb at 7500 rpm sending power to the rear wheels.

@StockPlanesRemastered i think graingy's brain runs on metric

@PZLAgencies ok cause what my autism brain comprehended was "I'm being needy." And I because of that i was like... Wat?

@StockPlanesRemastered Mass is measured in kilograms. SP craft use metric internally and then convert to imperial for interfaces. This includes using kN for thrust. You can even see this in SP1 by outputting propeller thrust to a variable.
Probably would've gotten there faster had you been using metric.

    @Graingy WHAT THE F* IS A KILOMETER!!!

kN is not correct because crafts are measured in lbs, not ounces. the procedural jet engines have thrust labeld as kN because they're ripped straight from Juno.

Also imperial units got us to the moon.

@StockPlanesRemastered kN is the correct form. What I mean is that I believe it was still giving me foot-pounds even though I have the game set to metric units. Horsepower too.

@Graingy Yes. Unfortunately for jets. But rest assured I will be going back and converting the units to the correct form.

Wait, does SP2 have metric units for engine power? I haven't checked.

@HuskyDynamics01 it had the rear facelift the one time though the rest of the car was never changed, ive heard it compared to the MR2 and the 944 which are not what it is but closer than the celica (4th/5th gen?)

  • Profile image

@BaconEggs to be fair the aeon lore is probably the deepest out of any of the stock crafts
it's been through at least three designs and like four or five names if I recall correctly
