It feels pretty good in VR, so I have gone ahead and curated for VR. The MFD does appear to not work correctly as it doesn't show that the aircraft has any weapons.

Some things that would be nice for future builds: Give your switches tooltips so the player knows what they do. More buttons for combat functions: cycle targeting mode, next weapon, next target.

  • So what's "Performance Cost" ? 4.1 years ago

I should probably add a tooltip for it. Here's how I described it in an earlier comment:

Performance cost is an attempt to measure the computational intensity of a craft in terms of straight blocks. For example, if a craft has a performance cost of 500, then you might expect it to affect framerate about the same as a craft that was made of 500 straight blocks. It's still very much just an estimate, but hopefully, it is a better estimate than part count.

Each part type has a constant performance cost associated with it. Some part types have an additional cost depending on their settings. For example, wings will have more performance cost if they are larger because that requires more sections of wing physics. Bladed engines have additional cost with each blade. Labels cost more if they use expressions.

I'm finding that anything under 2000 generally works well on the Quest 2 and anything over 3000 generally affects framerate on the Quest 2. PC is a different story since every device is a little different.

I'm really sorry about the late start today, everyone. I was out of town today celebrating Thanksgiving early with my family and the truth is that I completely forgot about the tournament. I had an email reminder set up in my calendar to remind me, but that doesn't help much when I don't check my email all day! Again, my apologies, and I'll try to do better in the future!

  • my sp keeps crashing after a recent update 1.4 years ago

I'm sorry to hear about the crashes you're experiencing with the beta version. Could you please let me know when exactly the game crashes and what type of device you are using?

If you're concerned about preserving your aircraft designs, you can back them up by connecting your Android device to a PC. Once connected, navigate to the following directory:
    Android/data/com.jundroo.SimplePlanes/files

From here, copy the AircraftDesigns and SubAssemblies folders to your PC to safely back them up.

You can opt out of the beta by reverting to the production version of the game through the Google Play Store. This action should not cause any data loss as long as you do not uninstall the game. However, please note that while it's uncommon, I cannot guarantee that all data will be preserved in every case.

  • Update Galore and Steam Sale 2.2 years ago

@Ian_Yashima Sadly that is due to the Unity upgrade. We need to update our games periodically to maintain compatibility with the different app stores (iOS, Google Play, etc) or otherwise they will yank our games from their stores. Sometimes that requires us to update to a newer version of Unity and this always has the risk of breaking mods. Unfortunately that appears to be what has happened here with those mods in your screenshot. If the authors of those mods have the time and are able to rebuild it with the new mod tools using the same version of Unity we are using then the mods should work again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • The Lamest Beta Ever 6.9 years ago

@DuckMint @Gestour That's a fair question. If we don't keep Unity up to date our apps start rotting. Platforms start to push new requirements on developers and if we aren't using the latest stuff we run the risk of being forced to update Unity at a non-ideal time. SimplePlanes is becoming increasingly difficult to update on iOS with 5.3.6. Early last year when the iPhone X came out I had to update SP to work with the rounded corners but Unity 5.3.6 didn't have support for that so I ended up spending 10x longer hacking together a solution just to get by. The beginning of an update cycle is the ideal time to upgrade Unity since we will have more time to react to potential issues. I am sorry for the inconvenience for mod developers, but it's the nature of software development. Hopefully, your mods will work fine with Unity 2018.3. What issues are you having with building for Android, @Gestour?

  • SR2 is now on Steam 7.1 years ago

@Chancey21 Naming a company is really hard. When I knew I needed to start a company to keep making games, I had no idea what to name it. For some reason, my mind kept going back to a nickname my brother's friend would call me when I was younger: Jundrew. I changed it up to make it more visually balanced and that's what I went with. I had no idea I would ever bring other people on and the team would grow to this size, so now, unfortunately all my colleagues and I are stuck with the name!

  • wth is wrong with this game?? 7.8 years ago

@DerekSP It's good to get this honest feedback. Thanks for posting.

@SledDriver you've got some great ideas as usual. We don't plan to do a major overhaul on the SimplePlanes designer, but these are great ideas to take into consideration with SR2's designer.

@WNP78 Thanks for being so helpful in the community and for making tools that can help players work around some of our limitations. We're going to take another look at the inertia tensor problem with the next update. It was introduced back when SP was using Unity 4.x, so maybe Unity 5.x will alleviate the need for it. At the very least we will make it easy to disable at the aircraft level.

@JangoTheMango It's not a cash grab. We've spent almost two years now taking everything we've learned and built from SR1 and SP and putting them together into what will be our best game yet.

This is expected behavior because clearing your browser history also typically wipes your cookies, which is where your login session information is stored. If that's removed, the site thinks you are logging in from a new device, which triggers the 2FA prompt.

  • SimplePlanes VR - Coming 2021 to Steam and Oculus Quest 4.4 years ago

@Kennneth SPVR should have the same modding support as SP on Steam, but no modding support on Oculus Quest. If we can't make modding support work for whatever reason, you could always just use the original SimplePlanes. When you buy SPVR on Steam it acts like a DLC and will unlock the VR mode in original SimplePlanes as well.
