  • G.J.3070 Akee 7.1 years ago

@Gela I mean I had some serious problem determing what this thing is... Is it supposed to be a heavy bomber of sorts?

  • F-104 Starfighter SD 7.1 years ago

    Smooth!

  • The duckspress 7.1 years ago

What the duck is this?! (Sorry for the awful joke, I just cannot help it, sorry!)

  • Ishak 7.1 years ago

Well, an I-16! Good job! BTW, now I saw the difference between a Northrop Gamma and an I-16... A Northrop Gamma had the grate-looking thing a bit behind the cowling, while on the I-16, the grate-looking thing is the cowling; a Gamma is also a bit slimmer and has no fairing over the propeller mount.

  • Warbird 7.1 years ago

@SledDriver Sorry for the confusion! As this builds was meant to be a spaceship - or at least a sci-fi aircraft, I used the word "starfighter" to describe this build...

  • Warbird 7.1 years ago

@SledDriver The I-16 is a low monowing fighter designed by the Soviet Union in the 1930s, and was famed in that it was the first low-monowing cantilever fighter with retractable landing gears and attained operational status.

  • Warbird 7.1 years ago

@SledDriver Well I ddn't notice... I thought it's an I-16 from the placement of the cannons, but the nose of the craft do resemble that of the Northrop Gamma... Sorry!

  • Warbird 7.1 years ago

Is this inspired by the renowned I-16? A starfighter that looks like an early WWII monoplane fighter...
    Anyways, good job!

  • North American F-100D Super Sabre (RDAF) 7.2 years ago

The story is great! Looking forward to see more such stories!
    Annnd... the plane's nice, too.

  • Heinkel 715 ver 3.0 7.2 years ago

@Marine Ok, thx for the information!

  • Heinkel 715 ver 3.0 7.2 years ago

One quick question: what causd the donut-shaped smoke trail that seemed to have originated from the ventral side of the craft? Is there another (XML-ed, non-damaging, pointied at a solid block) gatlin gun used to mimic the smoke/recoil effect of the gatlin cannon?

  • Heinkel 715 ver 3.0 7.2 years ago

I'm just wondering whether the ejection seat would work with the jet intake directly behind the cockpit... Anyways, this looks like a crossover between an He-162 Volksjager (wings and engine), an A-4 Skyhawk (nose), and an A-10 Thunderbolt... Goodjob!

  • Confetti Shotgun 7.2 years ago

    Happy birthday!

  • X-45E 7.2 years ago

@Ownedpilot Lagged on Mid and High physics, ran well on low.

  • X-45E 7.2 years ago

@Ownedpilot I'll try to run this craft, but I'm not joining this challenge as my phone is junk that cannot run anything with more than 100 parts on high physics before lagging.

  • Aerosub Exocoetidae (Flying Fish) 7.2 years ago

Are those underwing chambers ballast tanks?

  • Aircraftchallenge 7.2 years ago

@CrazyCatZe So... The anti-air missiles are launched horizontally? I thought the box-ish things around the turrets are the missiles before I realized that a missile should be larger and that those are probably countermeasures... Also, it is not uncommon to launch minesweeping ROUVs from racks like that, so...Still, nice build!

  • Aircraftchallenge 7.3 years ago

I highly doubt a ship that small (comparing to the missile) can be considered a destroyer instead of a missile boat... Also, what are the tube-shaped thingy before the no. 1 turret used for, and why are the torpedoes (or perhaps a minesweeping ROUV?) mounted on racks?

  • Ethos of Settlement 7.3 years ago

This starship sort looked like that of Ephwurd's, although I didn't exactly get how - and why - are the cargo containers loaded diagonally, and what will be left of this ship when these containers are removed……

  • Barrel submarine V2 7.3 years ago

@Type2volkswagen True, in the world of steampunk fiction, physics does not exactly follow its counterpart in real life... That said, a steam engine, given enough air (from outside the boat with a VERY large snorkel) and fuel, could theoretically work under water...

  • Barrel submarine V2 7.3 years ago

How and why would a paddle wheel work under water?

  • Kruzenshtern 7.3 years ago

@WahrscheinlichIch Sorry I messed up on the etymology... Yup, a ship with all masts except the mizzen rigged square, and the mizzen rigged fore-and-aft is a barque...

  • Kruzenshtern 7.3 years ago

I have to say, this Barque looks COOL!

  • Aquila CR1 7.3 years ago

    Nice Work!

  • McLaren FE car 7.3 years ago

@Drummer1112 BTW I'm commenting on the construction... This seems to require a lot of effort...

  • McLaren FE car 7.3 years ago

    Amazing!

  • X-Wing 7.3 years ago

@DemonSniper8 Well, it is self-evident the X-wing took it down...

  • 1C.Old Beer Wagon Rotator Spoke Wheel 7.3 years ago

@Type2volkswagen Was the beer keg the size of a ferris wheel, or was the (model of) the airship the size of a car? The correct answer seems like "neither", given the car is way too big to be the size of a normal vehicle, while the airship build is the size of a normal airship... Still, I would say it's a great idea to learn from the construction process of someone else's when it is used for your own creativity.

"Invisible Pink" Paint Scheme Blends Right in with the Twilight Sunset Skies"
Posts a black-and-white picture as backup
P.S. I know that "invisible pink" scheme are used on British reconnaissance planes, mostly modified Spitfires, but the irony is just too much to ignore...

  • Cross-CutAngus 7.4 years ago

Good ob on the sci-fi look! Will the ring be used to house a warp drive? Alcubierre drives have that ring design, anyways...
