The ship has a rather unique design and appears to be based on the real life Brandenburg-class pre-dreadnoughts with some creative liberties taken and a fictional lore being built around it.
The turning was just unusably slow and I was saddened to see that the builder forgot to enable smoothing, which made an otherwise very well built tumblehome hull a bit less appealing. I also noticed some uncredited parts used.
- Design/Accuracy (13/15):
As mentioned, the ship is based on the Brandenburg-class with some changes and is overall very authentic.
The only problem is that the borrowed anchors are a bit too large.
- Details (12/15):
The build has okay detailing, nothing too fancy tho there are some great parts such as the finely built bow crest or the well detailed falgs. The decks have good detail work, the rigging is pretty minimal but it's there, the railings only on the upper decks and are completely absent from the main deck and there is an almost empty bridge interior.
The funnel smoke and the flags waving where also nice details as well as the crane hooks swinging on actual winches.
- Features (10/20):
The ship has all weapons usable, including the main and secondary cannons as well as the torpedo tubes.
The build features a system that allows the turrets to be trained to either side and then manually adjusted once they are there, which I think was a celver solution without having to use a complicated FT syncing system.
There is an almost empty bridge interior with a ship's wheel that isn't even correctly set up as the ship turns to the opposite direction than which the wheel was turned to.
- Build Quality (7/10):
The builder did try to use some good part saving solutions including slicing for the railings or labels used for the portholes and ladders.
The builder forgot to enable smoothing on the hull which was a real shame because the tumblehome looks great but seeing the individual segments ruins the illusion a bit. this also applies to the vertical fuselages at the bow and stern which would have looked much better with smoothing.
Upon checking the flags, I noticed that the creator was rather wasteful with parts on them, they could have been solved much more efficiently.
- Performance (12/20):
The ship needs a bit of time to speed up but it's really on the edge between too slow and acceptable so I'll put it to acceptable. The steering however is unusably slow, I'd have to sail around the entire vanilla map just to make a 360 turn.
The guns' traverse rate was okay, a good balance between realistic and usable, but the reload time was once again way too slow to be enjoyable, even if it was done for realism.
It handles okay on the ocean mod but only at low waves as higher waves disable the propellers so it's hard to gain any speed.
- Description and Information (12/15):
The description is very informative with a full lore and history written for the ship, however I feel like it's too long, it's almost a wikipedia page worth of information which I believe would have worked better if the creator put all the history part into a document and given a link for it while the description itself would have only included a brief summary of it.
The screenshots are great.
Additional Points (-3, +0):
-3 for not giving credit for the ship's wheel and the anchors
The ship has every element to look like a proper pre-dreadnought, but I feel like the builder went a bit overboard with the chubbyness. The build is soo wide and short that it feels more like a toy or an eggship than an actual vessel.
Other than that, the ship looks pretty okay, adequate detailing and the controls are clear and easy to use as well.
- Design/Accuracy (11/15):
As mentioned, the ship's thickness is a bit too much, however, other features such as the tumblehome hull, weapon placement, the look of the superstructure and so on seem to well representing the design of pre-dreadnoughts.
My only other criticims would be the slanted funnel tops as that was not really a thing in this era of warships
I also couldn't find any real life examples of 4 screw pre-dreadnoughts but I found some with 3 screws so I'm willing to accept this as reasonable.
- Details (9/15):
The ship has pretty minimal details overall, tho there are a few nice things such as the individually modeled chain pieces (albeit the chains themselves make no sense as they don't lead to any hawse hole or anchor, they seem to bge just connecting a few capstans)
The builder also included some portholes too, as well as windows on the superstructure and even flags on the masts.
- Features (7/20):
There are usable main, secondary and tertiary guns on the vessel and nothing else.
Propulsion is solved with jet engines and steering with a gyro, not very great.
- Build Quality (4/10):
The build is not very efficient with parts. I was very suprised to see vtol nozzles still being used for port holes, it being a very old and outdated techniqe. The hull's parts dont flow into each other smoothly either.
There is not much else to say about it.
- Performance (13/20):
The vessel is easy to handle, I found no problem with any of controls, they are easy to understand and use. Speed and turning are good as well, they are not too fast or too slow.
Unfortunately, the ship couldn't handle the ocean mod well, it was rather bouncy
- Description and Information (15/15):
The description was pretty great. It features a lot of informaton such as a history section, controls and a ton of screenshots, inlcuding ones that are edited to look like old photographs. The length of it was pretty good as well and some formatting was done too to make it more easily readable.
Additional Points (-0, +3):
+3 for the effort of building the ironclad ship after which this one was named
@DatFiat126Fan19 It's a very unkown ship (I mean, the only reason I know about it is because of wows too) and it seems my teaser post wasn't enough to get people interested before the post
@theNoobCountry2withM1911 this has been said a million times before, nobody got hacked. One user deleted their account, and a few others got theirs banned around the same time, then a bunch of clueless users started spreading this misinformation about hacking, but it's not what happened.
If it's supposed to be Hungarian, why did you make it with Bulgarian markings? (the flag on the tail and the roundels on the fuselage and wings are Bulgarian)
I'd like to ask for the same permission as Ayanon. I'm not certain if I'd make any public builds with it, but I'd definitely like to build a few ships using these codes for personal use or maybe for teaser videos, is that okay? I'd give credit to you on any public post of course
@BrieCheese Did you use the cockpit from this post? If not, no problem, I'll just ask a moderator to make it a successor to this post. Also no need to tag me there, just drop a comment here when you are finished uploading and I'll check out your profile to find it
@BrieCheese It's bit complex Funky Tree system. It would be a bit long to explain it here
Do you have discord account perhaps? in the Port SP server I have a detailed guide to it. (invite link)
@Mousewithamachinegun122 Yup, a lot has happened since then, but I'm quite proud of my first year (as I am of most of the years of my SP work), I reached a lot of achievements
As far as I know there is no way. Best you can do is go through who upvoted your builds and check on their profiles one by one but ofc that's very tedious and time consuming
@Hoawdie Well, it's preferred to build the ship entirely by yourself, but you can use assets from others (with proper credit of course), although expect some score deduction for it (the more borrowed parts you use, the more points would be deducted from your final score)
@KSB24 Glad I could help with a big info then. That user has a history of using taken builds as challenge entries (or just uploading taken builds or parts without credit in general) so if you are planning another challenge in the future, I recommend checking entries extra carefully
Also if you got two other random pings, those were me too, I tried to tell you this info under his post but he deleted my comments both times and blocked me, showing that he is trying to hide the truth about the build's origins
I'd say my biggest recent disappointment was my Olympic and Titanic. They both got over 50 upvotes but for the amount of work I put into them, I expected at least about 80-ish upvotes, but unfortunately I screwed up by making them be too many parts so most players couldn't even try them out.
@PapaKernels Yea, device limitation is a pain (hence why I put the 2500 limit in the beginning, to give low-end users a chance)
Still, it's not a bad entry and you can be very proud of yourself for being able to do this much even with your device limitations.
Thanks for participating! o7
The ship's upper hull and superstructure appears to be squashed at first, definitely not as tall as it should be. The non-smooth lower hull is also not so pleasing to look at but the many deck details, windows and other things somewhat compensate.
- Design/Accuracy (9/15):
The ship's superstructure appear to be much shorter than it should be, especially the funnels. Another inaccuracy worth mentioning is the inside of the secondary barrels is for aome reason painted in purple.
Other than these, the rest of the detail work seem to match the real ship.
- Details (10/15):
The ship has a nice array of details from deck equipment, to vents, rigging and even some nice swinging hooks on the cranes.
The searchlights having actual glass on them was a nice touch as well. The flag is also nice too, it could have been even better if it was waving.
The bridge being hollow was also nice addition even if it's completely empty, maybe some windows could have made it even better.
- Features (12/20):
The ship features usable main and secondary guns, and even hull mounted torpedo tubes which is great additional feature.
The main and secondary cannons have an interesting system in place where the ship enters a port or starboard firing mode, in which the main guns are synced up with either side's secondaries. This system worked very well for me and I rather enjoyed it as it gave a sort of realism to it (given that dreadnoughts usually engaged with broadsides)
The ship uses vanilla propellers to move and the builder was even able to make them okay looking for a ship propeller which is a great feat (but also nice of the builder to include additional jet engines in case the vanilla propellers fail in the ocean mod). Not being able to reverse however is a bit disappointing
The ship also uses a gyro for steering which also somehwat takes away from the immersion.
The many cameras placed around the ship are also great too although I noticed the one labeled "Bridge" probably didn't have its offset zeroes, so it's actually above the bridge.
- Build Quality (4/10):
The build is rather wasteful with parts, for example, the vent in front of the no.4 turret could have had both sides made with one set of parts, halving the amount of parts needed for that detail.
One thing that also really stood out to me was the lack of smoothing on the vertical parts of the hull, a rather unpleasant thing. What's even more strange is the builder buing inconsistent with this, because the lifeboats for example are all smoothed.
I can't decide if the insides of the secondary barrels being purple was left like that by accident or if it was done on purpose
- Performance (10/20):
The ship performs well with the oean mod (larger waves cause the vanilla props to stop but that's why the backup jet engines are added. They do work well in normal conditions though), has rather okay steering and even seems to match the maximum speed of the original.
The weapons were also quite easy and fun to use.
- Description and Information (10/15):
The description was quite okay, with a history section (split in two halves), some technival data and specifications and some cool screenshots with great formatting.
Additional Points (-0, +2):
+2 for using vanilla props and still making them look like normal ship propellers
Bocsi a pingekért, csupán arra lennék kíváncsi, hogy mekkora érdeklődés lenne egy esetleges magyar-only discord szerverre? :)
Ha a többségeteket érdekli akkor szívesen összedobok egyet. Nem lennénk túl sokán bár a jövőben még csatlakozhatnak (kirakatnám a hivatalos szerver listára) és lenne egy kis magyar SP közösségünk
@PapaKernels I'd say try Vincent or BaconAircraft, I tried them last time and one of them helped (not sure which one of them as they didn't reply just silently set the successor)
@PapaKernels Can you please ask a mod to set it as a successor (it was one of the challenge requirements). It looks great btw, Im looking forward to test it! :D
I decided to collect the things this calculation doesn't take into account:
- pirates: a large part of the community didn't actually buy the game.
- alt accounts: you mentioned that there are approx. 300k users, but dont forget the fact that quite many users have at least one but sometimes two or three or even more alt accounts
- multiple purchases: another thing that should be counted is the fact that some might purchased the game on multiple platforms. I personally bought it on PC and Android as well.
- bots: there is a huge number of bots on the website, since registering to the website is not connected to actually owning the game, so there are a lot of bots that advertise malware and scams.
- The assumption of everyone buying it for 6$ is a bit rough as well: In the past 5 years, I've seen the game being on sale on Steam several times and even saw it on at least three occasions being sold for just 1$ on some online video game stores (legit ones, not shady ones).
- Banned and left users: They are probably a small portion of the community, but it should also be accounted that there are users who bought the game but their website accounts were temp- or perma banned. There are also those people who bought the game and left the website (and deleted their accs) by their own will.
- Non registered users: Also a probably small group are the people who bought the game but they didn't register a user on the website
I meant no harm by this, the post is still an interesting calculation, I just wanted to add some additional information to it. :)
