TIE/D Defender

“…victory and defeat are often determined by the smallest detail.”
- Thrawn

The TIE/D Defender, or simply the TIE Defender was a program initiated by the empire’s grand admiral Thrawn. With the 7th fleet under his command, he had access to seemingly limitless amounts of resources. He had an unmatched level of intellect and was the first to acknowledge a larger rebel alliance made up of the smaller groups or insurgents scattered in the galaxy. Knowing this, he saw to fix the empire’s flaws, mainly their frontline fighter, the TIE/LN Fighter. Lacking shields, hyperdrive, and a weak hull, the TIE Fighter was a flying coffin, with powerful cannons. The TIE Defender was equipped with powerful shields rivaling that of an X-Wing, a hyperdrive, it had excellent maneuvrability like the standard TIE, had 6 laser cannons, and 6 missile launchers, which can be equipped with homing concussion missiles or proton torpedoes.

This planes has many functional features, such as:

  • Moving Controls
  • Laser Cannons
  • Proton Torpedos [Rockets & Missiles]
  • Inertial Dampers [Gyroscope]
  • Vertical Take Off

It also features some cool details:

  • Red engine afterburner
  • Internal Cockpit
  • Realistic Design

INSTRUCTIONS
Simply push the VTOL slider up for the plane to take off, then activate thrust. Click AG8 to deactivate the stabilizer.

This plane is much easier to control than the B-Wing ;)

Sadly, I couldn't keep the part count below 400 if I wanted this amount of detail, but at least it's not 1000 xD

@ThomasPlayz996 Ye it’s difficult to fly at max speed. I have an unlisted variant with an improved flight model if you want to try it out. :)

@MrADS Hello! I love this aircraft you've made, and I wanted to know whether you would let me use the base model of this thing in a project, kind of like what I did with my Eta-2 Interceptor here. (It's for the Tie Defender Omega, teaser/specs here. I'd make sure to credit you everywhere I can, and leave a clickable link to your build at the top of the desc. If you'd like, I'd also post an unlisted version before the public one and give you the link so you can tell me if I need to change anything. Thanks!

Making really good Star Wars replicas that are perfect in proportion but don’t have crazy part counts. Good job!

@R2d2hunter Yes, I figured out this trick while working on flying ships, especially because i've built a helicarrier that is quite hard to handle. This way the VTOL is used for take off, and normal flight uses normal engines, really glad you like it :D

I just found this post and I really like the VTOL for taking off because you don’t have to deal with the rotation of the normal VTOL engines.

@Whydoesthismatter the TIE defender isn't a very well known ship like the X-wing or the normal TIE, so i'm really glad you like it :D
