Text label Tank Track ( low lag solution! )

38.2k hanleehan03  1.2 years ago

Sorry for being late for this!

It's been about two weeks since I first released it and I'm sharing it now.
I was late because I was working personally in the meantime.
I'm Sorry... 😅

Introduction and Inspiration

Introduction

This work uses text label to make it look like the track of a tank.
I made a track animation by combining rich tag and FT in the text label.

A big feature of this is that it can be made and decorated like a real tank's(Of course, the quality is low..XD) track without a mod.
That means Android and IOS users can also play with tanks with track on SimplePlanes!
I hope this will resolve their regrets.

It doesn't even consume as much performance cost as it might think.

Of course, it's more than a single part of the orbit that's made with just one wheel...(performance cost= 23.8)
a Text label Track's performance cost is 27.1 .
This is less than track set making with one wheel and one spring.(Efficiency may vary depending on the number of text tracks installed.)
If you can't use a high-quality track because to lag and you want to optimize your tank, this would be an attractive option.

And finally, if I were to talk about the feature,
It is designed to use the curvature function.
This means that you don't have to use a large amount of text tracks to represent curves.

Inspiration

I was inspired by Warthunder and WOT.

I enjoyed both games and came up with an idea. "are n't tracks just a lump of texture in a game except for physical interaction?"
I experimented with this idea to embody it once in SimplePlanes, and so this was born!
(In other words, this text track has no physical interaction... This is only for decoration, and your tank will be powered like the physical interaction of armored vehicle.)

How to use & control this?

How to use?

If you want to use this, please read this writing carefully.
I've painted yellow the essentials that this needs to work.
I've marked these with a red circle on the picture, and I'll explain it to you.
(The left and right sides are different!)

(1) This is what you should check when you detach and use it without any special modifications.
When one pipe connected to the main body is detached, the set comes apart. Use it.

(2) This is a sample of a text track. Extend the length of the track, or take it with you when you need to modify it.

(3) This yellow wheel contains the FT (rpm) variable. The right side is set to rpm1 and the left side is set to rpm2. This setting is essential to make the text track work.

How to control?

Same as most tank control systems.

Pitch -> Moving Forward & Backward
Roll -> Turning tank
Yaw -> rotating tank's turret
Trim -> rotating tank's cannon vertical angle
Activate1 -> Head Light
Brake -> Brake & Turn on Brake Lamp

Finally....

There are many other works that I haven't released yet. I'm going to reveal them one by one, so please look forward to them!

Download and have Fun!

    @hanleehan03 while that is the case with tanks within the WoT realm an universe but where WT is concerned tracks actually are tracks not just a texture unlike world of tanks

    This is such a cool innovation, and I love the older-gen videogame look of it! (Really reminds me of tank track in some PS2 games and such). Kinda feels fitting for SP. Really great in terms of part-economy/game performance than the existing methods, too, which is awesome.
    Kudos/thanks for sharing the idea with!! X)

    And does it also works with sum(Pitch+Roll) too?

    (I'm lazy to open the game)

    @Tookan I mean it is kinda ridiculous that we haven’t got native support for the tracks mod or any other mod yet in years

    Almost 1.5 years after update, someone actually used it for tracks.
    Low quality is not a problem, you can use actual texture if you wish (SPRASTER) and perhaps you can change colors for weared pads, dust etc.

    @Magnavox20MS233S There is a solution if you are using a mirror to fabricate.

    In the text label track, there's txt that says,
    Example)
    <voffset={repeat(sum(-rpm1/80),0.33)}>

    If you set the variables of the wheel correctly, change the txt that says -rpm1. The right side is rpm1 and the left side is rpm2.
    ☆) The direction of movement of the track depends on whether you attach '-' before 'rpm'. If It move the other direction around, attach it or remove it.
