Weird stability issues when nudging

227k jamesPLANESii  4.8 years ago

My FredomFox, currently with 1600+ parts, normally my designer is running at 60FPS, but when I nudge, that frame rate drops all the way down to 4FPS, making nudging take an eternity. It’s getting quite frustrating.

Computer specs:
Windows 10
Processor: Intel i7-6700T CPU @ 2.8GHz
RAM: 16 GB

It makes me have to plan what when I’m going to do things because if there is a task that requires a lot of nudging and camera moving, I have to do that as early as possible and add high part count stuff at the end.

I forgot to mention, the external graphics cards sometimes do not come with a graphics card, so be careful with what products you look at/choose if you decide to buy one.@jamesPLANESii

If your up for it, you can spend a bit of money on an external graphics card, to “boost” your systems performance. External graphics cards can work extremely well with laptops, or systems that do not have a graphics card. Do some research about your system and if it is compatible.@jamesPLANESii

Yeah most of them do, but that isn’t much use when you’re in the Designer lol @thefalkenreich

    This also happened to me
    .
I thought it was because of my old laptop but apparently people are experiencing it too

There is a bug in win 10. If left without updates for enough time , the hard disc Keeps running at 100% . Check your task manager .

I believe this happened to the old Tank i was making a month ago.
I took the vehicle's entire body and transferred it over to a "New Vehicle" slot using subassemblies
And that got rid of lag for me at least-

    Unrelated question:
Do you play SP on an AiO?

I have the same issue on a MacBook Pro 2015 with builds of 1765 and 2600 parts, going from ~25-40fps to ~2-6fps when nudging

Quick tip: cut nudging time in half by holding the control key @jamesPLANESii

For me if I click the nudge button has a bit of lag and I can click it faster than the lag, and it’s slow @AstleyIndustries

It’s always been around, it’s just I’ve been starting to build rather high part count planes lately and this has particularly become an issue on my latest project. @vcharng

For me if i hold down the nudge button it's slow, but normal nudging is fine

Same I can run 1k stuff no problem with high framerates but editing parts is slow and feels delayed.

What's your GPU? most of the lag happens because of a bad GPU.

    You:"Computer specs:

Happens to me as well, nudging is so slow in higher part builds. It's the worst when I try to nudge something using a 1000+ part plane, usually runs at around 50 FPS (not 60 FPS because there are a lot of parts), but I'm happy with 50 FPS too, still better then my laptop trying to emulate a GAMEBOY ADVANCE game at 1 FPS lmao (press f to pay respect for my laptop)

you know what sounds weird to me? It's that people who didn't seem to have a problem previously suddenly started to have problems.
Supposedly nothing changed recently in SP, and this really shouldn't happen.
Did you update a graphic card driver or something recently?
