Wee wee this goon stole my aeroplane and just made the plane fly worse and made the wheels bigger waaaaaa

—What you all sound like when someone makes a successor to your plane

Peeps.

Chill.

Lets look at the positives to successors:

First of all, most people tend to check out the predecessor to a plane anyway, so even if it is an exact copy of the plane, people will click on it, check the predecessor, and maybe even upvote it and try it out before coming back to the successor to report it. It’s like free advertising! I do this!!!* (Note, this doesn’t mean it’s OK ago copy someone’s plane)

Another thing, you get to keep half of the points that the person receives from the successor. Free points and free advertising!

Also, this is a free site and you upload any plane, you’re putting your planes on a public domain. People can do whatever they want with your planes. My old original Scout Tundra from like 4 years ago has over 30 successors and that number is still increasing! And I’m receiving half the points these cars earn. And I don’t even need to do anything!

And let’s look at the “negatives” to successors

One thing I see people saying is that you spent all that work on something and they just make a couple of modifications and uploaded it and sort-of claimed it as their own...
But is that even a negative? I mean, you earn free points from whatever upvotes that craft gets, and heaps of people visit your craft and you get free advertising. Also, building on someone else’s craft is one way some people learn how to build.

Another thing I see people saying is that they ruined your craft. You know what? Who cares. Your original, perfect craft that you made awesome is still up on the site for everyone to still use and look at. It’s not like the new successor makes your build redundant is it? And it’s not taking away the like light of your craft, it’s actually behaving more as free advertising.

To me, I don’t know why people dislike successors so much. I encourage them.

People in general should not view successors as an insult to them or as ‘stealing’, by uploading to this site you are making your post public for other people to use/modify/reupload. I’ve seen many, mostly newer, users reupload previous designs with little to no changes resulting in anger from the community but does it really matter?

I can’t build so I have to base my planes on other planes so I like successors

its rare that anyone actually builds a successor of one of mine, the last few have been either re-colours or added tons of guns for no apparent reason... i wouldnt mind a few decent successors though, so feel free people =)

No. I’ve seen fuss over people doing proper successors and people getting mad. :/ @vcharng

@jamesPLANESii Yes and I think all the fuss were from the not-labeled successors... I think.

I mean, you get auto credited when you create a successor anyway. Avoiding the successor system and crediting it as your own work, yeah thanks uncool af lol @vcharng

Wait, are you talking about "successors" or "uncredited successors"?
I don't think many people would object proper successors with auto- or manual-tags.
It is the "successors" that the creator claimed to be fully their own work that causes problems.

@AgentofFortune well you were certainly not the worst, those were the people who spammed constantly (along with doing other stuff). But you weren't the nicest, with the homophobic remarks etc.
