I mean any of it just takes time, I hate building replicas personally so I just tend to freehand things until they look nice. Try to use preexisting parts for detail you can always scale them around. Like the joystick base and the big block rotator are personal favourites.

luck I got three post featured in quick succession but nothing before or after then, the first one didn't work, the second one , was kinda cool I still like it but it wasn't great, and lastly This which was actually pretty cool. The theme for me was obscurity, the two star wars vehicles being pretty much unseen. So I guess for a feature the trick is trying something new or trying a new effect or amount of detail on a build, or a new funky tree magic thing. I was around high silver to low gold for these so im not sure if that helps
if you want to enjoy larger part planes and get more involved in the community a laptop or pc helps. but really it doesn't matter as long as you aren't a mobile user who begs for all the pc functionality

@PolarcapAeronautics in simple planes, its a collection of code. for example "time","explosionScale". it controls aspects of parts. In simple its basic (except when its not basic) code for simple planes

there isnt necessarily a penetration power but a few that combined act similar are.

Honestly you have to be quite established to make a successful challenge I tried in bronze. It was a god awful attempt. Contrarily made a pretty standard challenge in gold.
For bronze users I recommend waiting to late silver+
