Foam Glider - Wind Seeker

121k AWESOMENESS360  4.6 years ago

We've all done it. We've all had one. Cheap five-dollar balsa wood planes, plastics models, and foam board. Honestly, they’re one of the most fun things to play around with on a nice sunny day. And one of those planes in particular, I have recreated in SimplePlanes. Introducing, the Wind-Seeker!

Unfortunately, I couldn't give it the actual Wind Seeker logo due to part count reasons. Maybe someday!

The Wind-Seeker is probably the best wind-up rubberband powered plane I've ever flown, it has power, it has speed, and it ain't called the Wind-Seeker for nothing; The first time I ever flew it, it flew so far and so high that it got stuck in a tree that had to be atleast 80-100 feet tall. The only way it came down was in a storm that followed shortly after it was stuck. It got badly mangled, but we repaired it, and it's back in the air again!

Controls: Normal aircraft controls, nothing special.
Take Off Procedure: Full throttle, and full pitch. Pretty simple.
Landing Procedure: 50% throttle on final approach, once you're about 10ft above the ground, cut throttle and let it gently float down.

It has custom made wheels to perfectly replicate the real model's wheels, so they aren't going to spin as nicely on the ground as an actual wheel would. TBH though, that kinda just adds to the realism, since the actual Wind Seeker isn't very good at landing either.

Have Fun!

This reminds me of going to a museum with some friends and picking one of these from the gift shop. I’m strapping bombs on and blowing up some ships now.

This is the one. This is the plane that made me get an account for Simple Planes just so I can tell you that I love this plane. Definitely nostalgic and handles well! You can park this thing anywhere! Thanks for this!

@Hedero thanks! The "Black Rank" is actually called Platinum, just as your rank is gold, grey is silver, brown is bronze, and white is carbon.

Very nice! Creative paintjob btw. I don't recall ever seeing the type of wind up plane that you made here but the most iconic one for me is the balsa wood aircraft! Nonetheless its very pretty and good attention to detail.

@Tarquez the yellow fuselage is hollow plastic: The rubber-band is inside the plastic to protect it!
