Elite Dangerous Eagle MKII (10K Release)

33.7k EchoWhiskey11  3.2 years ago

Updates Planned:
An unreleased upgrade is going to be posted on 3/19, Added Yaw flaps, got rid of some redundant parts, better multi-cannon deployment animation, fixed glitchy control panel, cosmetic shield emitters have been added.

Possible Imperial Eagle Modification in the future after the model has been optimized, and also when I'm able to get back home.

I recently had to reupload this thing due to some issues with the landing gear, and I noticed I forgot the Chaff Launchers... again. I apologize to the 20 users who got the unpatched version. After throwing it through some high g-turns, this version should be good. Turning down the physics engine also helps. It works on my phone, but I'm not sure how it will perform on other platforms. If you run into any bugs just let me know. I'm working up to a streamlined version of this thing so I can make an Imperial Eagle

This Craft is VTOL ONLY, Please read flight instructions, don't worry it's not that hard to fly.

Controls:

AG1: Flight Engine
AG2: VTOL Mode/Engine
AG3: Weapons
Trim: Adjust Trim

Take Off: Engage Engine 2 and increase power, once aircraft is airborne Engage Engine 1, once up to a speed excess about 200 mph disengage Engine 2. Do the reverse for landing. Be sure to disengage the Hover Engine when using the main flight engine, as it will damper your maneuverability.

Overview:

"If someone is taking a Eagle into battle they are either very skilled, or very foolish" -The Pilot (Youtube Series)

For all the CMDR's in the community, and an introduction to those who have never played Elite Dangerous. Elite is definitely no Ace Combat. Demanding pilots be able to fly backwards and sideways, disengage flight assist as you tumble through the vacuum of space can leave many new players disoriented. For many new pilots they learn this in the cockpit of an Eagle, a ship both loved and hated by its community.

The Eagle is a multipurpose strike fighter, and though it has a reputation for being a "Paper Airplane", outclassed later on in both armor and weapons, the Eagles makes up for it for being one of the most maneuverable ship available. Able to be equipped with railguns, multi-cannons, and missiles it can a deadly pack hunter. Personally, I see this ship as a cross roads for many players in Elite Dangerous. They either sell it at first chance they get for something more powerful, or graduate to its better armored cousin, the Imperial Eagle.

I made it easy to repaint, as the stock version is an ugly seafoam green, not my taste. I prefer my ships a nice hotrod red, but you can modify it as you like. Weapons are my standard 4x2 modular slot, that can be changed around as needed. Like all my designs, it was intended to work on mobile, so I kept the details too a "minimum" if possible, yeah didn't go as planned. Verging on 600 parts, it's hardly a small build. Does it work mobile? Well sorta, it works on my mobile devices, but it may not work on everything.

If you have any stories about the Eagle in your Elite Dangerous playthroughs, feel free to share them below.

@bjac0 happy to know I'm not the only one. We might as well start converting over ships before the game goes under trying to be an FPS.

@BaconEggs Thanks for the Upvote. Sounds good, I built it to be used on a mobile phone since I'm never home anymore. It was "supposed" to be a 400 part build. So the XML file is tuned to be a little more forgiving on hardware. You're free to use this model if you want. I built it off blueprints and scaled the thing based on the pilot for reference. There are a lot of details that can be added, which sadly my hardware won't allow.

@AtlasSP it's always good to see SimplePlanes premier video creator. I've seen your channel grown a lot, and thanks. The real challenge was getting this thing to work on my phone. I've got more ships lined up, just in school right now so it's not as easy to build these things. Thanks for the Spotlight too.

@Shippy456 yup, get yourself a Super cruise assist an Auto Docker, you'll have yourself an Anaconda in two weeks. My Dolphin is my most profitable ship that I never actually fly.

@Shippy456 You should be able to go to the crew lounge at a station and hire them. Just a heads up, NPC crew mates are next to useless unless they are manning a turret of using a ship launched fighter.

Bought an Adder from a mining expedition. How would one hire a crew? @EchoWhiskey11

@Shippy456 Try looking into Cobra, I think it's about 200k but it's good for bounty hunting, exploration, and light cargo runs. You'll grow out of it fast, but it's a good starter.

@Shippy456 I usually have one ship that I use as a taxi with a fuel scoop and I just ship my stuff station to station. I sounds expensive, but it's not too bad once you get established.

Never mind. Almost froze to death because I didn’t know what a fuel scoop was. Backtracked and found a detention center just in time.

Damn 100,000 for wandering outside Federation borders. That Eagle is in the bag

@Shippy456 Honestly that game punishes you for carrying anything in your cargo hold. I'll actually carry stuff just to bait pirates in. But yeah, Autodock, supercruise assist, and a Dolphin, easy money.

Ah yes. The Eagle. The second best plane to start learning to play Elite Dangerous after the Sidewinder

Transport is a diamond in the rough. Tried mining but got the scare of my life from some pirates, nearly melted my ship with silent running. @EchoWhiskey11
