A29 (EMB314) "Super Tucano" USAF

A-29 "Super Tucano" (VIDEOS BELOW)

This is a ground attack version of the Super Tucano which may be used in the near future by the USAF for counter insurgency operations as well as close air support of special forces. My rendition shares a very similar flight performance, armament and set of functions to the real aircraft currently tested by the US. It features animated ejection seats, weapons, FLIR, landing gear, canopy and more. To use the GBUs first activate AG4 to keep the aircraft stable and activate bomb
steering, then select view (F5, F6) and drop the bomb with normal weapon selection.

Additional weapon pack can be found here

Feel free to modify and reupload the aircraft and share any thoughts, questions or suggestions for improvements!

@ENG1Fail, wazzup, and how can i change bomb controls?) I want to change pitch to VTOL and roll to Yaw, but if i change this in rotators, it makes no sense...

@zPagoda No, feel free! Use some Gyros with fulll stability and put them to AG4 to keep the a/c in the air while steering the bombs.

@ENG1Fail Hi, do u mind if I use the GBU's on my own aircraft.

I love this plane, super maneuverable and the GBU’s aren’t that hard to guide. (I removed the big Flir thing & I added way more flares, changed the cannon to explosive rounds & enabled the wing mounted MG’s, and of course added some Gaurdians)

@edufrs14 to be honest, the fact the USAF is considering this plane is a testament to the capability of our engineers in and of itself. It's also part of why Kovác's team chose "Tucano" as the namesake for the original T-27, so it would be unmistakably recognized as a Brazilian aircraft no matter where it was exported to. It also helps that "Tucano" is a catchy word that rolls off the tongue easily in several different languages, though pronounced a bit differently sometimes (for instance, IIRC the French pronounced it as what would in Portuguese sound like "Tûcanô".)

As for me, I'm just happy to see another Super Tucano on the site. It's a beautiful bird, and this build is really, really well detailed. It might be the best Tucano around in SimplePlanes, it's an excellent build. My congratulations to the builder.

@edufrs14 I'm sorry, the US-tag was refering to the USAF livery (a Brazilian version is WIP tho). For the meantime I've adder manufacturer and country to the specifications.

Of course I know that this variation is American, BUT, you must say and add to the tags that this airplane is originally Brazilian.

I am suffering right now reading the tag “United States”. As a Brazilian, knowing that this airplane is from Brazil, from our engineers, I can not stand to this. Please change the tag and add to your airplane description the information that the Tucano is Brazilian. Imagine I post the F-5 Brazilian variation without saying it is American... please, remember us, Brazilians, great allies of USA.

As for fuel burn, it is a bit more in SP than IRL. Much more with power multipliers, but far less than people complain about. 10x, though, is huge fuel burn and I would reduce it if possible. Flying as you would IRL, i.e., not flying around all the time at 100% RPM with the afterburner going helps a lot. Also, what player flies a build for even 10 mins, much less than 1:00 or 1:30 or 2 hrs? No one does. I hate unlimited fuel for all these reasons and wrote a whole screed on this a long ago.

Well, for your calculations, fuel density is 6.8 lbs/gal. Also, there’s a way to produce all the engine effects without burning fuel, try “powerMultiplier=0”, I don’t use exhaust effects in that way, so I’m not 100% sure, but that may be your solution. I don’t think this would be the way to fix your acceleration issue, though. Also, the autoroll issue is either weight or attach points not being symmetric. I often will place parts, mirror without attachments connected and manually attach both points just to make sure they’re symmetric. Even with all that I get asymmetric attachment points, but far fewer otherwise. To tweak, try deadweight as you say, a little bit farther out on the wing is as effective as a lot closer to the centerline.

@ChiChiWerx Thank you for mentioning it! I did not realise changing the weight factor of fuel tanks would have such an impact on the empty weight. The fuel amount is the real fuel multiplied by the factor 10 to cope with the higher fuel burn caused by the VTOL engine (needed for exhaust effect and more realistic turboprop performance (delayed thrust etc.)).I have uploaded a refined version here. It has a realistic fuel amount w/o weight factor but burns it very fast (solution would be deleting the VTOL engine in the front and increasing Prop hp). What do you think? Do you have an idea how to fix the autoroll issue, maybe with a simple dead weight on one side? Drag should be evenly distributed, I´ve used the same factor on nearly all parts. Thank you for your help!

Nice build, good functionality, interesting weapons. It does have a tiny bit of autoroll, but that is minimal. You used negative weights—yuck—next time you might try using the published weights, empty, plus the correct amount of fuel and loaded. The SP flight model actually does a good rendition of all those factors and yields some impressively good results. The turn rate is interesting...with weapons it’s slow, perhaps too slow, but when jettisoned, it’s really fast. I should check how many Gs it’s pulling, should be around 6, from what I remember. That’s realistic and good building. It does not bleed energy in high G turns as it should, which tells me you added drag back in but didn’t distribute it along the build, perhaps? But it is a cool build, different enough from the typical fast jet or airliner to get noticed, nice work!

Excellent aircraft with a great amount of detailing and features! Its one of the best aircraft I've flown here and I'm more amazed by the fact that it comes from a low-level user! U r on my list pal, I've got my eye on u!
