Hawker Siddeley Eagle GR1 4.1

228k RamboJutter  4.8 years ago

Developed parralel to the famous Harrier, the Eagle was a blended wing (flying saucer) concept that utilised a central lifting fan (VTOL up) and 2 RR Avons with reheat for horizontal thrust. Designed primarily for Short Takeoff or Landing it did have just enough power to operate as a VTOL if pushed.

Takeoff procedure for short takeoff: VTOL full up, full throttle, press AG1, pull back on the stick.

Featuring automatic landing gear, gear doors and landing lights

Yeah, I realized that i was just saying that because the rest of the wing stays there but the engine goes flying like a missile and I thought that was sort of funny. @RamboJutter

@Megaplanesinc most real aircraft don't take kindly to being shot, hard to see that as a relevant critique really.

Engines have a bad habit of flying off when being shot

This reminds me of the Star Wars Separatist droid gunship.

@ShermanFirefly thanks, vtol without the use of nozzles or gyros :) I nearly didn't bother though as the whole vtol bit took ages to make work.

@BlackhattAircraft easy, I have a list of unfinished builds that I dip into, most only have a couple of hours work left on them so at present I'm reducing the list a bit :) I built most of the unfinished stuff when I was off work for a bit.

Reminds me of the “droid gunship” from Star Wars... great work!
Edit: it’s also the easiest VTOL aircraft I flew, bonus points for that!

How do you crank out so many planes in such short periods of time? I can barely find dedicated times to build
