A simple farmer...

Auto Credit Based on Planeacceleration's MIG Challenge [Ended]

The build didn't quite turn out the way I wanted to... too many details are still missing. But OK, the rule was max 500 parts -so here it is.

HISTORY

When you say "Mig", people automatically think of legendary planes like the Mig-15 or the Mig-21; the Mig-19 is mostly overlooked.

The Mig-19 (NATO code "Farmer") was the first mass-produced supersonic fighter of the Soviet Air Force. After entering production in 1955, the Farmer was the primary fighter of the Russian air force from the late fifties to the early sixties, with about 2500 aircraft having been produced in total. And perhaps we should also count the 3000 or so Chinese copies -the Shenyang J-6.

Because of its origins in the MiG-17, the new aircraft retained the design lines established by its predecessor. Its fuselage was heavily revised to incorporate two Tumansky RD-9 turbojets, and other changes were forced to suit the revised aerodynamics. The nose section housed a radar, so cannon armament was situated at the wing roots (both the MiG-15 and MiG-17 carried their cannon armament in the nose assembly). Once in service, the MiG-19 immediately established itself as a heady performer and made up the bulk of Soviet fighter power heading into the 1960s but stood as an interim design more or less, serving to bridge the end of the MiG-17's reign and the arrival of the much more advanced Mach 2-capable MiG-21 "Fishbed".

The MiG-19 and J-6 participated in many regional conflicts: the Vietnam War, the civil war in North Yemen (1966-1967), the "Six Day War" (1967), the Indo-Pakistani War (1971), the Vietnam War (1972-1975), in Cambodia (1979), Afghanistan (1979-1989), in the battles against the Kurds in Iraq (1974), Iran, in the conflicts in Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and so on.

Today, MiG-19s still equip some second-rate air services of the world while other customers have retired (or sold off) their stock in favor of more modern solutions like the MiG-29 "Fulcrum" series or the dependable MiG-21 Fishbed line. In either case, the fighting peak of the MiG-19 is clearly behind it.

ARMAMENT

The MiG-19's basic armament consists of two Nudelman-Rikhter NR-30 autocannon in the wing roots (normally with 75 rounds per cannon, but I made that an even 100)
Most "Farmers" had four hardpoints, used for external fuel tanks, rocket pods or bombs. However, some versions are known to have carried air-to-air missiles; this build is equipped with two AA-2 "Atoll" missiles, which are in essence AIM-9 copies.

CONTROLS

The plane's controls are quite standard; VTOL down for flaps, trim = trim.
The air brakes are automatic; they're activated when braking, using the drag chute (AG1), or with the flaps fully down.
The MiG-19 is easy enough to take off, fly and land, with few controls to worry about. Just point and shoot!

Not my all-time favorite MiG, but one that deserves a place other than being a stopgap solution before the MiG-21.

Have fun!

@ScorpionSpace sorry my friend, can't help you -not without having tested the plane, anyway. Depends on how you define "shaking". If you have it posted, even as unlisted, I could have a quick look.

@AerialFighterSnakes I’m mainly talking the general shape. It’s really creative as the MiG generations go on lol.

@cats Very true. This isn't one specific MiG-19 model; it has the nose radar of the P/PM but the pitot of the S (would have been on the wingtip with the P), the J-6 drag chute, the Atolls which were a later modification of existing P's etc...

@AerialFighterSnakes It has afterburners. You don't scare away goats, you roast 'em.

@DilophDilophTheDumDum The air brakes automatically come out at 95% flaps because I'm lazy -I used 'em to bleed speed on landing approach anyway, so why bother having to press another AG button? You're absolutely right about the landing gear... I did that last, but didn't have enough parts left to make a good copy of the MiG's landing gear. The result is sth that looks half-decent from a distance, with your eyes pinched ;)

This is really good, I guess you could say that in terms with the MiG-19, the MiG-15 is but a shadow of it’s farmer self.

The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't.
In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was.
The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows. Because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice-versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be, and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error.

In fact, the MiG 19 deceleration parachute produced by the Soviet Union is not on the tail wing, its located on the rear bottom of the aircraft, only on the Shenyang J-6 mid-to-late version deceleration parachute is on the tail wing root

@BagelPlane And then the MiG-21 and MiG-23 were just random afterthoughts that had nothing to do with the originals

They also added two engines in the MiG-19 making it definitively supersonic.
