Bristol Britannia

Ladies, Gents, I give to you the whispering giant. For those of you who don’t like reading or reading my heavily biased interpretation of the British aerospace industry and how we shoot ourselves in the foot prior to any hurdle, I’ll surmise below;

Full scale replica (give or take, shes a large bird we’ll leave it at that!)
First time for trying a ‘realistic wing’ - I know, crazy times.
Realistic performance with the proviso you fly it like a commercial type...
1 to activate inboard props for taxiing etc (this looks really neat btw)
2 to activate outboard props (and hidden jets so this lump could actually achieve flight....)
8 lights.
VTOL for flaps
Fictitious Farnborough prototype livery (this was being built in a Donaldson international scheme but the extra weight was crippling the performance of both the aircraft and my iPad so apologies there)

Would have, could have, should have. Like all great British designs of the postwar era the Britannia should have been a real market pleaser. However I’m afraid it’s the familiar tale of delays, government philandering and tailoring the design to a much too narrow market, namely BOAC and their ever changing requirements. In this case an innovative airframe was designed around an unproven engine type and resulted in teething problems such as inlet icing - which was ultimately manageable by height. The Britannia was likened to the “beauty and the beast” by Squadron Leader David Berry who had 5000 hours with the type. In the end the Britannia was a success, albeit not a commercial success - only 80 built out of projected 180.

I’ve tried my darnedest to replicate the shear beauty of the Britannia and I hope she looks as good to you as she does in the real world. There’s a real majesty about this aircraft and I can’t help but agree with the editors of aeroplane magazine - out of 100 great British aircraft, the Britannia is amongst the greats!

Rule Britannia!

    No I’ve had it half finished for months and just decided to finish it. I’ve done a fair few builds from the post war period as it’s very much a period of interest for me. @Tazziedevil04

    Thanks again @Sgtk I tried (and failed) to install a autopilot function via a gyro to assist long haul flights but it had no effect whatsoever on levelling off the aircraft.

    @Tang0five No problem. Say, could I borrow those rear gear for a project I'm working on? I've never done such a big set before and I need some guidelines...

    So, I was listening to Seven Nation Army and thought "This needs a gunship version!" I was probably getting some Bf1 feels xD. Can I make a gunship version of this; giving credit, of course.

    Ahhh.... (wince) Yeah that was a consequence of it being overweight, I kinda compensated with more lift via wings being inserted. An oversight on my part, apologies. @Chancey21

    Thanks again, your too kind! As regards to the footie, I might catch a game or two but it’s not my bag really. Overpaid drama queens who always injure that pesky shin pad..... I mean no disrespect to the millions of people who follow the sport, I just was brought up and played rugby. Union - the real form of rugby! ;) my better half might take exception to that comment if she read it. God I’m offending everyone today! Well the sun is shining, the beer is cold and I’m not at work, hope the beers are cold too across the pond and thanks again for you support! @ChiChiWerx
