If you've read my bio, you'd know I like insects and anything entomology related. Today, me and my family went to St. Peter's Village, a little place in Warwick where it has lots of little towns, and plenty of things to do. One of the best things to do there is explore the forest area behind it all, where there's a large creek that runs through the whole place, and massive trees as far as the eye can see. So yeah, pretty cool.
What I didn't expect to see is what is probably the largest Dragonfly I've ever seen, and I got a few pictures of it in my hand too!

The reason why I'm sharing this is because I've seen a lot of Dragonfly Ornithopters on SimplePlanes, so I thought I'd give it a try! Think I should try to replicate him?

@Armyguy1534 yep, their mandibles are actually surprisingly sharp, in fact most insects have mandibles just like the Dragonfly, except they're either much to small to break skin, or they're made to eat plants, like a caterpillar or something.
@Loopy200 good, it's nice to know I'm not the only one here who likes insects and such. I actually have a pet Vinegaroon, they're practically harmless to people, despite their nightmarish looks.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh I have arachnophobia (jk I don't and I know dragonflys aren't arachnids) plus I don't hate insects I'm usually the one who stops them from getting killed by my friends. Once I had a butterfly on my hand it was amazing!

@Gameboi14 Yeah, a flying multicolored luminescent twig that can decimate any insect it comes across with mandibles sharp enough to break through human skin. Learnt that the hard way.

@Awsomur I completely agree, there are some really beautiful insects out there, one particularly beautiful one would be the Madagascan Jumping Stick Insect, easily one of the weirdest yet beautiful looking insects in the world!
@TurboSnail honestly I'd be more worried for the spider than the Dragonfly, especially considering dragonflies are essentially the "Apex Predator" of the insect kingdom.

@Randomdoggo well, for starters, its best to approach them as calmly as possible. Usually, if they are comfortable with walking onto your hand, they'll stick with you for some time. This one in particular had a slightly hurt wing, so I feel like he was either accepting his death, thinking I was going to kill him, or he realized I wasn't trying to kill him, and just kinda let it happen. Either way, I realized that he was struggling to survive, mainly since he couldn't fly as fluently as he would've with an ok wing, so I actually tried to feed it a cricket that was on the ground, and let's just say he decimated it. Pretty cool to watch though, I've been bitten by large dragonflies while handling them before, and they've actually drew blood! So yeah, I can only imagine what they can do to a little soft-bodied insect.
