A bug we’ve been dealing with for SO LONG we don’t even notice it anymore

Did you know:

That when yo increase the RPM on a propeller engine... the engine sounds like it’s going faster?

Well, not on SimplePlanes.

On SP, props sound like they’re at their highest RPM when they’re on only like 1% power, and the prop is barely spinning.

I mean, we’ve been dealing with this bug for so long that we don’t even notice it! But I’m just making people aware of it so it could get fixed at 1.8.

Increase the mass scale of the wheels using Overload @e1theoriginalguy

i hate the bug where if theres too much weight on the resizable wheels they start to throw down a sick boogie

If you put the engine to just 1% power, the RPM sounds like it’s at something like 50%, even though the prop is barely spinning. @MisterT

@DemonSniper8 Yes, in fact, RPM increased for a few second after throttling down. It's due to a bad ratio between engine RPM and HP. It accelerate a bit with inertia while propeller offers less air resistance. Try to separate throttle and prop pitch, it will not happend if you only decrease throttle.

What? It sounds like it's increasing for me...

I think it's not a bug. When your engine is on automatic pitch, throttling down decreases both rpm and prop pitch. But, if your engine has big HP, the inertia of the propeller will decrease speed slowly, but the propeller pitch decreases way faster. The result is, if your engine is too powerful, and you throttle down, the propeller accelerate while pitch decreases for a few seconds because there is less air resistance. That's the reason why the engine sounds like accelerating, but if you wait a bit, the sound will finally decrease until RPM and prop pitch are synchronised. In fact, I think on the contrary that the sound is very realistic. You can notice that when playing with prop pitch on other sim games like il-2 or DCS world.

What about the sound changing as if you have throttled back a bit even if full throttle is still applied.

Ik, I thought it was just my ears, I love the sound of engines spooling up. That’s why I have started to use jets!

It still sounds like the RPM is like 50% when your throttle is at 1% though. @Rub3n213

If you go to the manual pitch setting and play around with that, while flying bring it to neutral you’ll notice the rpm shoot up and it’ll warn you saying ‘rpm overspeeding’ Or something. When you have the pitch control on automatic it’ll bring the propellor pitch down toward neutral as you bring power down. I don’t know much about how this reflects actual prop stuff in life but that’s what it does in game.

I always keep propellor pitch around 30-80% for that nice deep growl.
