Very Important 1.8 Suggestion

101k Wallaby  5.7 years ago

I know all the 1.8 this and that ended, but I just came up with an idea so good that it would solve one of the most major problems for builders.

In-Game Connection Points Manipulation

Basically, in game it's already easy to connect something to another part, you just use either CTRL+K or your mouse to drag the object. But sometimes a part can accidentally connect to multiple parts at once when you don't want it to. This makes you have to go through the whole fixing process and it's a waste of time and motivation.

My suggestion for 1.8 is to make an easy to access menu tool that when selected, makes your entire build transparent (not invisible), and then a little square pops up at every place where 2 or more parts are connected. From here you can either draw a new connection point (By selecting "Make Connection", then highlighting multiple parts that are touching which you want to connect, then clicking OK, making the new connection points solid) or you can remove a connection point (By selecting "Remove Connection Point", then clicking on all the little connection squares, making them change in either color or opacity. You can select the squares again to save them in case you made an error.). After you finish, you can go back to the Connection Point menu and click "Save", which makes all changes official, so the only way to revert them is to click the glitchy "Undo" button on the bottom corner of the screen. Through the Connection Points menu, you can also select a connection point and change it's strength, so that parts are not sliding against each other when you don't want them to.

Why do we need this? Many players have connection point issues, especially when making more complex builds which require many internal rotators and pistons, etc. The connections on the rotator-based mechanism people make can accidentally clip into other parts, making the mechanisms unusable. By removing unwanted connections, it becomes much easier to fix these game errors and builds will be coming faster, and more builders will come up to this game which some people consider "dying".

I hope somebody implements this, it would be really helpful and important for the growth of the game.

I've ran into this problem many times before, and seeing that someone else has experienced this makes me feel like I'm not "that one guy" anymore. Such a good idea though!

Ummm sounds like a great idea! While this function is just redundant for me because i have invented a special method to deal with mechanics. link

A more plausible and much easier-to-make solution would be something like overload that would let us edit the connections, simply changing two ID values.
It may not look as good as entire plane turning transparent and stuff, but it would work and be easy to implement

I still think we need some airports on the smaller islands around the main ones they are definitely big enough to be able to land a king air on just they are like mountains, and if that these could be added that would make general aviation aircraft more fun to fly about with
And the airports don’t need extreme detal just a small dirt strip with a pull of for parking maybe a shed somewhere

It would be nice if in update 1.8 they could put a XRay tool to see what parts are connected like in other sandbox games
