What 1.7 could mean for combat-specialized aircraft builders...

If you build fighter planes or bombers that are designed to withstand heavy damage and go into massive combat operations, there's some good news and bad news. I, personally have been experimenting with dogfights, to see weak points, understanding how the enemy can take you down, and how you can expose them to danger; what could change about combat aircraft to make them withstand heavy damage and not blow out an engine, and how you can build more durable aircraft to keep bullets from setting you on fire, and I have found some interesting information.

If you want your plane to be a tank like the P-47,

DO NOT (or try not to):
-Fully expose fuselages or wings w/ fuel in them to the enemy.
-Make a non-maneuverable dogfighter
-Have permanently attached fuel booms.
-Carry fuel in FUSELAGE-TYPE WINGS. Normal wings are exceptional.
-Overexpose your engine. (I'm looking at you, jet builders.)
-carry more than you can fly with. (Bombs, rockets, torpedoes, etc.)

DO:
-Try to conceal your fuel inside your plane if you can; especially if you have overload & fine tuner; which most should have access to.
-If necessary, put exposed fuselages w/ fuel under your plane.
-Use bomb bays to conceal and protect your bombs; they are less likely to explode in a chain reaction if something catches on fire.
-Use EMPTY fuselages to cover your engines. For example, this beauty.
-Take speed and agility into consideration for bombers and escort fighters. If you are running into anti-air, for example you just dropped bombs on the USS beast, you can get in and out without many casualties.

In conclusion, 1.7 gives fighters a chance for durability, a chance for bombers to recover from blows. A chance for planes to not lose from an enemy that got you on it's knees. A chance, to change the way we fight in simpleplanes, forever.

I am almost a completely dedicated experimental fighter builder for modern through concept/fantasy construction. I was pretty hyped at the news about the new combat mechanics. This will finally give me the chance to build more realistic fighting aircraft and my builds will finally live up to their potential. I can't wait to finally optimize my favorite combat aircraft.

@Mostly Ive figured it out while Chaff directs missiles away flares mess up the lock so when it says warning you can deploy chaff and the missile will have to reacquire you.

@Aarons123 Well, depending on how it is. If there is fuel on at least one of those fuselages, the others are most likely to explode if the one with fuel is on fire. If they don't have fuel at all, it can be very different. If the fuselages that are attached to the fuselage that explodes, they are not likely to also explode if they are attached to more than at least one other piece of the plane.

Just a question, would a fuselage made of tiny segments or large segments protect you better? I will BRB soon :)

@Cerdon True, but the odds of getting hit by a bullet is rather likely, even over 500mph. Jet combat around 400-500 mph is anyone's game in a gunfight. Over 500mph means missiles, but protecting yourself from shrapnel is also important. It's not just about the dogfights, it's anything involving combat that could damage/catch you plane on fire.

@Mostly as an ex jet builder most dogfights come down to long range boom and zoom attacks or close up fast cat fights I have never gotten a jet on jet kill with guns going over 500MPH

the WW2 dogfight mode just got a heck lot intense than before, with the new A.I system and all, dogfights now last 5+minutes if youre constantly dodging each other trying to get a good shot in.

Same, I hope I can easily modify my current favorite fighter to still be effective in 1.7.@Supercraft888

@marcox43 every plane that exists on this website will always be compatible with 1.7; And just for safety, I downloaded it and it does work :)
