The story of how SimplePlanes became un-simple

1,971 Ruskiwaffle1991  3.1 years ago

I don't know the history of the SP community but here is my rendition of it. Somewhere 6 years ago, some dude posted a very simple Corsair with old parts and tiny version of the WWII engine ingame. That was the start of SP's legacy. More and more people uploaded their planes and once fuselage parts have arrived, aircraft detail had dramatically increased. Then PC players made mods which could be available to mobile users back then but PC has the advantage of getting more mods and better performance. Fast forward to maybe 4 or 3 years ago and we probably get to see the hundred part creations made by people with strong phones or PCs which most can't play because they have potato. Some creations exceed the 500 part mark which could only be available on PC players or people with iPads. 2 years ago more and more people make more dummy thicc creations because performance is increasing in both the PC and mobile market. Mod support was unfortunately removed from iOS and Android because they are peepee faces. And now we get to see creations over 2000 parts which would probably kill my phone with my current graphics. Some dude named Spicyninja posted his German corsair with the phrase "Yeet bois" and platinum players were making fun of it and got a zillion upvotes. Drama emerged and so the mods put an end to it. Now we get to see the over 10,000 part glitch creations and even more 1000 part creations which always get featured. Don't you guys remember that SimplePlanes has "simple" and not "complicated" in its name? I'm not saying we should ban the high part creations but maybe we could make a few more so-called simple creations that people might appreciate and maybe even make a new subgenre or make a wall between simple and complicated creations. I cringed while making this.

regarding high part creations... I like to push the limits of my creativity, and my pc's limits. Sure, SP is incredibly un-optimized for the resources it uses, it barely uses 30% of CPU power out of a 3rd gen I7 and barely uses more than 2GB of VRAM, but somehow, it is very CPU intensive, it likes high core count over frequency. a lot of high part count tings come from detailed parts like speedometers or things like decals, since we don't have a paintob feature or importing a .png so we can save parts. sometimes I have to duplicate the parts of an entire plane ust to have it in a two-tone paintscheme, imagine the part saving with just some .png images thrown here and there.

It would be great to add working mods to mobile devices(like iOS) again so that I can play Multiplayer on my iOS and download other mods.
Edit: don’t complain about the fuselage part takes time to practice with that part.
Also another edit: yeah some of those..... idk what else to say;/

Why are you complaining that other people, who are capable of creating absolute masterpieces, do not create planes that can run on your device??

    1. I'd like to remind you that other people have zero obligation to make planes that can run on your device.
    2. There are houndreds planes available to download with fewer parts.
    3. You can always make stuff yourself if the stuff others create does not interest you.

Seriously man... Complaining about other people having harmless fun is 100% toxic. :(

    "ban high part planes"
BRUH: See it in 4K, ULTRA HD in this forum
Seriously, let people build how they want. If they want to build a super high part count ultra detailed plane, let em. Nobody ever said you had to download them. If you dont like those planes, there are thousands of people who make simple and low part creations

The only somewhat complex thing in SP is FT and anyone with access to mods can use it successfully first try. Also, Part count ≠ complexity.
