Cockpits and gear bays, I can’t help with. The only plane I made with a sort of cockpit was my Saab 37, and that was only because the fuselage part I used for that nose section permitted it (the texture was above the camera, causing it to not show.)

The F-35 is a piece of crap, but not because of the plane. It was rushed, put into service way before it was ready, and just doesn’t work as it was supposed to if more time was taken.
