Yes, it flys with VTOL control set to the second bar from the top. Full power propels it up and forward. Rolling start is needed, if you attempt straight up you're SOL. Joystick control is quite standar via the control circle. Tested on Android, ipad, and iPhone before posting. Try again, please.
Yeah, but its not luck just basic aero/physics that allow rotorcraft (helicopters) to fly at all on SP, or in the actual air. I found the VTOL features necessary to build and post several helicopters that worked; a new, temporary challenge to me. Thanks for your replies!
A simple answer to the query, but the implementation requires eliminating 2 or more or all of the standard medium jets -go with all VTOL embedded engines. This is optional, but currently the fastest engines on SP are VTOL nozzle driven. A SW feature. Good luck! @hypnotoad
NOTE to all, I've aready posted 2 helicopters that fly at twice this speed, with superior stability, yet they do not use the fore/aft rotor on this model.
Okay I'm new here, so how do you launch a very good boat without dropping it from hundreds of feet in the air (final approach)? I'd like to test this one!
Brilliant! For an initial version, you've got rotors capable of fore, aft, and side lift movement. Use of RCS is subtle, as required. More models please!
For guaranteed lift & control use counter-rotating rotors; works everytime. Download one of my choppers, feel free to re-use my rotors - this thing should fly well. I'm @Stingray
@Planecrafter and @LAZERETCHED I posted "Working Chinook Trainer" which has improved balance & steering. I've had best rotor control with the blades set about 25-30 degrees downward, rather than the max 45 degrees. To all: these SP rotors do not have variable camber (like real helicopters).
Note 2: I just tested the dowloaded Chinook again, at 21,000 feet 25 percent of fuel remained. This model is really for adventurous test pilots. All my tests so far are on my ipad.
This 2 rotor system is tricky, since if you make CM and Center of Lift identical, the front always out lifts the rear. I did a mod of your rotors, Chinook Concept Mod II, that's a temp workaround. The SP rotors are fun, but rudimentary.
@hypnotoad FYI, it took about 3 engine variations and 12 wing variations until my Dagger SR-72 Plane would fly level @ 1300 mph and do hard banks, then climb and hit the same speed again. In my opinion, some of this is due to SP, not physics.
@hypnotoad Yes, the tail fins can be easily deleted in the SP builder. Then, it can be re-painted to anything that's BSG better. Okay. BUT, then you gotta make it fly - and my non-posted version doesn't yet work on full VTOL.
Perfect balance for takeoff! Would like this better if pitch & yaw existed allowing complete control and sustained cruising. Beautiful repro of CH-46!

@maverickvii Will do.
The best C-5 model I've tested! BTW this test is on an old ipad, the model performs and looks Very close to the original design.

Similar to the last plane posted, the wings & controls help with lift and good control. I enjoyed test flying it!

Beautiful! Someday, someone might get around to convert this beauty into a flying model on SP?
Good wing, somewhat a copy like the space shuttle design "attempts" I note on SP. This plane rocks! Like it.
Tried it out. Recco: decouple VTOL nozzles completely from front/side/rear motion for this type of rotor. Couldn't really fly this one.
Great NCC-1701 replica. LLAP Nimoy.
Okay, but some how you gotta get it from air or runway to water. Does SP have a direct water launch?
Looks good! Can't test this big guy on my small ipad, hope someone can fly it!
Gear adds realistic engineering stability in-flight, congratulations! Wish enough fuel could allow complete island navigation.

It won't fly, but looks great!

Love the body, desjign. Please ref my comments.
Won't ever be stable, as is. Feel free to download one of mine and re-use my counter-rotating lift rotors. I like the UH-60, @Stingray

Beautiful, simple job here. Flys easily!

@Planecrafter All too true, thanks for the objective test!

CORRECTION: Set VTOL slider to 4th bar from the top (one full tick below middle).

SP rotors appear to follow simple physics, they do not really need to be 45 degrees, they just need to rotate and provide "flat" lift surfaces.
For the work put into this! Love it. I am posting a mod, check it out
It's painted silver-white semi-gloss; I just prefer lighter to darker finishes. Thanks for testing & rating this, @VYcanis !
Nice boat! At least 112 mph on water. Next, prefer some steering in lieu of a gun.
Creative, yet those wing booms make it beyond control. Keep trying!
Extremely creative. Hard to steer, but possible. Go for it, create more!
Creative, love it! At the moment I can't get a successful launch even with the newest android SP update. Any hints?
With a simple rolling start, you got a fantastic handling plane.
Great, simple design! Possibly dampen the roll?

Yes an improvement! One more star if it handles hi-G turns with stability. (Shorter wings, strong vertical tails, etc.) this one is still fun!
Method of launch TBD. Cannot rate since SP has limited launch methods. For @andrewgarrison
Beautiful construction of a classic!
@DethFromAbove Yeah those engines took a ton of time to integrate, do not think I'll try that much more- feel free to copy and re-use.
Excellent when you can beat that glitch! You have delivered a great demo.

This is a blank posting. Why does this happen?
I'm a trekkie, love the model! Gotta make it fly somehow.
Great appearance and construction! A bit too much pitch & roll for good control.
Checkout the USS Spaceship E under user kellyJ; I downloaded a couple since they hold together, are very powerful, and bear resemblance to your model.
Creative! Fun to fly on SP; needs a bit less roll.
Great plane and handling, even if via the detacher glitch (seems a whole new category here on SP).
Cool looking, flys okay! You know, those VTOL thrusters can be rotated to point rearwards with only a single click.
