@SimplyPlain
I've been planning on doing a virtual Reno Air Race in FSX for some time and while the default paint schemes for the P-51 are great, I'd like some additional textures. I already have my own texture I'll be making but "Hard Air" looks great and I knew I just had to add this to the list of textures to make for the P-51 in FSX, so there's more variety in air racers. Mine's is probably going to be something like "Blue Phantom".
@sebi032
Hey welcome back to SP, although I don't really recall you, and what is your "Aurora" again specifically? Are you talking about the SR-91 Aurora spyplane or something else named Aurora?
If you don't mind I might make this as a repaint for the default P-51D Mustang air racer in FSX. I really like this paint job/theme, and the nickname is pretty cool.
@jamesPLANESii
Well nvm I was wrong on the Top Cub, it does indeed have a full cockpit but it's still FPS friendly for me. So is the Eagle and Deadstick. So I'd prefer it to be built along the build/detail style of those planes you made, except with your realistic flight dynamics and cockpit instrumentation. I'd also prefer the paint job parts to be completely separate from the main structure parts so the paint job could be totally removed.
@jamesPLANESii
Sweet, can't wait! :D Although if feasible, I'd really love it if you could make an FPS friendly version akin to your Draco or Top Cub builds but with two versions; one without a cockpit and has glass windows, and another with a working cockpit but not too crazy on details. And then after that one continue further on the build to make the highly realistic accurate version as well. I'd also like the realistic flight dynamics on all versions. ;)
@jamesPLANESii
Also, I have 2 airplane requests for you.
Piper Super Pacer 180 and literally any Maule.
The reason why I've come to love the Piper Pacer recently is because they are dirt cheap to buy and it has a host of STC mods available for it, and it's a very flexible airframe in the sense it can either be a speedy efficient cruising airplane or a STOL capable bushplane.
My "dream" set-up is a Piper Pacer with the following STC's/Mods:
Wing VG's
Wing extensions (or wing extensions with Madras drooped wing tips)
180HP Lycoming O-360
Pilot-side door
Duel seaplane doors with bubble-ish/bowed windows
Modernized panel
Roof skylight
Super Cub landing gear + large tundra tires
But I would absolutely love it if you made a Piper Pacer replica, even to your own specs. I also don't care if they are super detailed like the Cessna 180. In fact I'd prefer you don't make it super detailed so I can use it on my PC. Still give it a fully modeled cockpit, but also make a variant without a cockpit for even better FPS.
Literally having the same exact situation with the F-24 Warbler. Took less then a week to build the entire thing + cockpit, but it's taking me over a month now (and probably more) to refine the design further (which I guess is kind of a good thing) and slowly add all the more advanced features I want such as FBW, HMD, and working instrumentation on the flight displays.
@ACEPILOT109
I'm actually low-key doing that rn, although I'm trying to convert SP planes to FSX and possibly use SP to build the plane and then export the model to blender to refine & rig it for FSX and make fully-fledged freeware planes for FSX including a Sonex Onex, which will be my first proper addon plane.
@SledDriver
Me neither. I first learned about it from Ace Combat Fan, and then I decided to dig deeper into the series and found a pretty good English dub on Dailymotion (got removed though). Instantly got hooked, and after I finished the anime, I got the book, which is FAR better than the anime, and the lore IMHO is better than Ace Combat since its actually realistic. The author of the original novel also graduated from Nagaoka National College of Technology, so he knows a thing or two about technology & engineering, especially aerospace & future technologies, which means the book is very accurate in those regards.
No I find anime to be rather cringey, especially modern anime.
My only exceptions are Ace Combat 3 Japanese Version, (if a game with a story of anime characters counts), Area 88 (original & 2004 remake), Macross Plus (also the only Macross I ever liked), The Sky Crawlers (never watched it but heard it's pretty good), and of course Battle Fairy Yukikaze (Yukikaze is best waifu), which is THEE only anime-related thing I consider myself obsessed with, since the lore is absolutely fantastic, especially from the book which goes into even more detail than the anime (IMHO Yukikaze lore is also better than Ace Combat lore).
@JED
I used Paint.NET to create all those images. I think I might do this style of description again for my upcoming F-24 although it will be far more simple and the graphics won't have any descriptions (descriptions will be written in the default SP description box).
@mikoyanster
Hey I just wanted to let you know that my entry might get delayed by 1 or 2 days after the challenge. I'm really really close to finishing it but there's still a few things I need to add and fix.
@SnoWFLakE0s
Hey so I might need a little help with a feature I'm trying to do on my upcoming build. It's basically a lock-out function that disables the landing gear, canopy, boarding ladder, radome, etc... above certain speeds. I'm currently working on the landing-gear lock-out. I've been reading and watching the videos and tutorials/explanations you and spefyjerbf have given, and you guys have done a pretty good job at explaining, and I think I'm slowly but surely starting to understand Funky Trees a little better. I was able to make my own input for what speed the gizmo/part would not function above -TAS + 134.112 (I think that's how I made my version), and then I used spefyjerbf's FunkGen tool to make a slightly better version which I also understand the clamp(x) function a bit better from it clamp01( 134.112 - TAS ). So where I need help on, is combining clamp01( 134.112 - TAS ) with LandingGear, as I'd like to tell the hinge controlling the landing gear to only swing open when it receives both airspeed below 300MPH (134.112 m/s) and a landing gear command, and vise versa, but I'm not sure how to include LandingGearin the clamp01( 134.112 - TAS ) input code. Any help is appreciated and you'll be credited in my build.
@JED
Funky Trees is the name of a new complex input coding system the devs created for SP and you can make really crazy, unique, and special features with your builds such as modless flight instruments, safety features (like landing gear lock-out above a certain speed) and even fly-by-wire. Although you have to have a pretty good understanding of algebra & equations to create your own input equations for your build functions to follow.

Happy birthday! Also whats your IG?

Some "enhanced" Piper Pacer examples:
1
2
3
4
5
6
7
8
9
5-9 basically has all the mods I like, and ironically it's a NZ-based Pacer.
I also found a website/company that owns the NZ Pacer and has a section of their website dedicated to it and includes all the mods they did to it, so you could use that as reference.

It also reminds me of the Murphy Moose but doesn't quite look like one.
Is it a Yakovlev Yak-12 "Creek"?
Me: "HOLY SMOKES THIS IS AWESOME I CAN'T WAIT TO FLY IT!!!!"
My uber-potato PC: Don't even think about it.

@SledDriver
Ik I'm just saying it looks like an air racer that would race in Unlimited Class at Reno.
The Reno Air Races called, they want their air racer back! ;p
Give this guy a cookie!
K I'm just gonna drop out of the challenge then
@mikoyanster
Wait wasn't the deadline April 8th? And can I still submit my design? (which is nearly finished)
@jamesPLANESii
I vote for #peeweetires
damn that's incredible

Never heard of "Royalton Motorsports" before.

Have you tried
clamp01( ( Brake ) + ( Activate7 ) )
?Oof. Also that Cessna looks sick. I might make a Piper Pacer with all my dream STC mods for it.
@jamesPLANESii
Sounds like the Edge Performance EPeX 300ti.
@jamesPLANESii
Oh ok. Wait, Rotax is making a V6 engine? Since when!?
@jamesPLANESii
I know but what's the hypothetical real-world powerplant? Rotax 912/914/915? Lycoming O-360? Lycoming IO-540?

Just curious but what's the powerplant in this bird?

That stealth bomber is H O T.
Dang this is pretty sick! Looks a lot like the RQ-3 Darkstar. Really nice stealthy lines & shaping.

Np, this build is fantastic! The handling characteristics are really nice and smooth.

Lock on to an air target and click the weapons launch button.
Reminds me of the JAM from Yukikaze. Nice!
