@typeZERO Yeah. Google knows I spend a preposterous amount of time on here.(they know everything, right?) So occasionally they stick a new Simple Planes post in my newsfeed. It rarely ever happens, maybe once every few months, but this post was there, right between some depressing political BS and a stupid celebrity gossip thing. I guess it's safe to say it was the best part of the news that day.
@GreenGiraffeAerospace I am very sorry. If it makes you feel any better, Mikoyanster has done that to me 3 or 4 times now. That guy puts out good planes almost twice a week.
@AviownCorp That's how the real designers work, right? Engineers look back at other planes and make a new design to improve on them. It's all fictional untill someone builds it. That's kind of the cool thing about your style. Your planes could be real.
@FastDan Balancing is just a matter of trial and error. I set the speed to the cruising speed of the real world plane, if the nose drops then I lighten the nose a little, if it rises then I add a bit of weight to the nose. I also have to keep the COM away from the front landing gear and the COL. But I can move the COL wherever I want because the real wings are tiny and hidden and I can put them wherever I want. The ones on the outside are just for show.
Its funny how much time I spend cheating to make the plane fly honestly.
Anyway. Usually complicated planes have problems with the drag being uneven. The game is really weird about drag, but its cool they include it all so I don't get mad. If the plane turns too much to one side, I twist the vertical tale in the other direction untill it flies straight, more or less. Usually it only takes a very small twist, this plane here has its tail offset by 0.65° Remember, I use hidden wings, so no one sees it's crooked. Just trial and error. Move it too far one way, then halfway back, then halfway forward again, smaller and smaller till its good enough.
@Sgtk Oh yeah man! I love a good Tiger build. Tried to make one myself but it was a mess. At a time when planes were big, expensive, hard to use and overrated, this little guy was getting it done the right way.
@aerodummy Not enough details. I know it's hard to make complicated stuff on an iPhone, but if you want to improve then you have to improve your level of detail. I can upload a set of modded parts you can download and use, and I'm sure there are plenty already available, but more importantly, more detail means it will take a lot longer to build.
@Awsomur Arrrgh. My wife says the same thing! I actually like the refitted version of NCC-1701 from The Motion Picture. The one with pinball-flipper nacelles. Not my fave movie by a longshot, but my favorite looking ship.
Hours, heh. If only. I'm lucky if I can build two planes a month. I've had some planes that did well but when they didn't, I knew it was time to step up my game.
@Bearclaw189 It is the aircraft for people who cannot be troubled to find one for themselves. A spare. But like Rudolf the Rednosed Raindeer, it will have its day.
To increase engine power of props, you also have to increase the max rpm as well as power. It's the value right after power in the xml doc. I always have to go through that because I often scale down my engines to fit inside stuff, very annoying. Anyway, increase the power by 1,000 and then do the same to the RPM and you should see a big jump in power.
Hey, I just want to add that your planes do look great. I think its really cool that you want to improve even further. It's not easy and I think you're doing a good job.
@AviownCorp The wings on my last 3 planes are fake, actually. They look like wings, but don't provide lift or control. The real wings are tiny, less than half a block wide, and hidden inside the fuselage.
Simpleplanes doesn't do wings realistically, so I have to break the rules to make realistic planes.
Anyway, if you have trouble getting enough lift, make gigantic wings and then shrink them with Overload and hide them somewhere. It's a lot easier than messing around with airfoils and that junk.
@AviownCorp Yes. Just a block or two aft of the COM. In real life, many planes have the COM so close to these wheels that they can balance on them for most of the takeoff run.
@AviownCorp Main gear is the two sets in the back, nosewheel is the single set in the front. Main landing gear is almost always even with the main wings. On the ground, the main gear holds up the plane, in the air main wings hold up the plane. The front gear is just there for steering, it's not supposed to hit the ground on landindings and its not as strong as the main gear.
@AviownCorp If your plane has afterburner, leave the nozzles showing, if not, then you can cover them. They just look kind of small from the side, you know?
As for the main gear, well, that's the main landing gear. It's the part that catches the plane when it lands. It should be in the middle of the plane (even with the main wings) and strong looking. The stuff you have is too small and too far back. The plane should be able to evenly balance on the main gear without any healp from the nosewheel, the nose gear is just for taxiing. Check out this photo of an F15 to see where gear should go.
Hmmm. The cool thing about planes (as opposed to cars) is that most of the stuff is there because it needs to be there. All the weird littles bits and bumps and details are equipment that serves a function. To make it look right, it helps to learn about what it does and why it's needed. But that takes a long time to figure out. If you want, I can put together a short list of things often found on the exterior of a combat jet.
@BoeyingOfficial Sure! This is an important piece of history. Plus, my wife is a huge fan of the C-97.

+1In my opinion Mig-3 was the best looking Soviet fighter of the Great Patriotic War and in my opinion, this is the best Mig-3 I've ever seen.
+1@Murphymotors Rolling is fine, it confuses the missiles!
+1I can't wait to take on the ice base with this baby!
+1@GreenGiraffeAerospace I am very sorry. If it makes you feel any better, Mikoyanster has done that to me 3 or 4 times now. That guy puts out good planes almost twice a week.
+1@Murphymotors XD
+1@FastDan You got overload and finetuner? They make it pretty easy.
+110/10 Would spawn in the air again.
+1Nice!
+1Dude. You used less than 200 parts and this thing looks amazing.

+1@Strikefighter04 Aw, lets be fair. He didnt say the magic words. He's not out of ideas, after all.
+1@AviownCorp Thanks, I appreciate the support
+1@MethaManAircraft D.W.1 is quite a looker, but I just did two Brit racers in a row. Gonna have to do some Yank planes.
+1@Strikefighter04 Apparently. I haven't seen the movie, but I did read that in the "Appearances in media" section of the wikipedia article.
+1@getorge Sure sure, keep up the good work!
+1@Caveman999 And so, yellow I remain.
+1@BACconcordepilot Same. Yellow pride, brother!

+1@Codenamephoenix1991 No, this is great. Finally, Shaq can feel comfy while driving.
+1I can imagine the guy in the back pointing the cannon at the guy in the front "Pedal faster!"
+1Jolly good show, old man!
+1Please replace "announcement" with "off topic"

Been wondering when someone would make this. Did not expect it to be a quality build. Good job.
+1Sorry to hear it. I hope he's ok.

+1Math is just a way to communicate. Same thing as painting or music or words, really.
+1You don't have any publicly available planes, so piece of advice No.1:
Post a plane and set it to "public"
+1@CarsonG1017 Okie dokie!

+1@BaconAircraft YOUR RESPONSE IS PROOF THAT IT DOES BECAUSE YOU HAVE CLEARLY NOTICED IT

+1Do you have Finetuner or Overload mods? If so, try enlarging the exhaust nozzles and main landing gear.
+1PZL M15 "BELPHEGOR", obviously.

+1This is the XML guide on the SimplePlanes wiki, bookmark it.
The following is the filepath to get to your planes xml files, figure it out and create a shortcut to it.
C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\LocalLow\Jundroo\SimplePlanes\AircraftDesigns
Go to the modding section of this website and get Finetuner and Overload mods.
Welcome to real computers, and good luck.
+1@Jetpackturtle Theeeeeeeeeeere's gonna be aaaaaaaaaa.... BELPHEGOOOOOOORRRR.... tonight!
+1@Strikefighter04 Same.
+1Meh. I like it how it is. Still 2 or 3 pages of planes every few hours and that's good because less good builds slip through the cracks.
+1It also has to do with center of gravity. The further back it is, the less stable the car will be. The trick is to find a good balance.
