If you're on mobile, making it larger than actual scale will be much easier. Have you decided which Sherman you're gonna use? How about the Firefly or the EZ8?
Download the planes you wish to learn from and pull them apart to see how they work. It's called "reverse engineering" and it's actually how a ton of aircraft are designed in real life.
Throw super-wide wings on it and it looks like a U-2 Dragon Lady. Throw swing wings on it and it's a Mig-23 Flogger. How about a A-4 Skyhawk? Or an F3 Demon? Basically, the 2 side intakes into one tail exhaust with a single tail is very reminiscent of tons of aircraft designed in the '50s. It's an incredibly solid design, useful in a variety of roles and proven to be reliable.
Bogdanx beat everyone to everything, I wouldn't worry about him too much. If you wanna build a Fishbed, go for it! She's a great plane. IF you're really not feeling it, then I think you should beuild another Soviet aircraft, because gosh darn it, those guys designed some solid planes and they desrve a bit of credit. ~EDIT~ Or yeah, and F15 works too I guess...
@Hockeygoalie21 Attach poinbts do really wierd stuff when you leave it up to the game, especially if you nudge parts a lot and you basically have to nudge parts a lot if you want to make cool stuff. Always be suspicious of the game and create new saves (DONT OVERWRITE) often.
This thing needs instructions on how to use it, if you want useful testers. Also, the wheel doesn't spin because wheels do that at certain angles and I don't know why, might have something to do with cars rolling or something. If you mount it to the sides of the box (uselessly at a 90 degree angle from where it is now) it spins. Have you considered using XML modding in this build?
Yes, I think you're showing steady improvement. Not only are your recent trucks realistic looking, but they actually work really well too. There's a lot of people who forget to make their creations work properly, and go for looks only.
Are you asking how you can improve as a builder or are you asking how you can be more popular? I don't think the two are the same question. Remember, most (the VAST majority) of Simpleplanes players are not active members of this website, so only a fraction of the people who enjoy your creations can upvote them. There are plenty of mediocre planes that get to the front page and I've seen some brilliant ideas get less than 20 votes. Obviously outstanding LOOKING designs tend to get a lot of votes, but the key to most online communities (this one included) seems to be establishing a name for yourself over time. In other words, soldier on and it will come. If you want actual advice about your planes, I can give you feedback there too but they are already quite good looking.
As @AstleyIndustries pointed out, there's nothing preventing you from going as high as you want. That said, above 90,000 feet the air gets quite thin. Wings don't provide lift, controls surfaces like ailerons and rudders stop being effective. Consider using RCN nozzles, thrust vectoring or weight shifting if you want to be able to steer at great heights.
The best way to improve handling is to create downforce with wings, props, jets etc that push your vehicle into the ground. The best way to improve without all that stuff is to plan out what kind of surface you plan to drive on. Off-roaders need a lot of traction for uneven terrain. Sideways traction is useful to keep from drifting on sharp turns, but a sports car with too much sideways traction will flip (a lot!) I can't think of very many situations where forward traction would be a problem, though.
Try to keep your COM as low to the ground as possible, and consider using wings to keep your car on the ground at high speeds.
I actually went through all the trouble of modifying the tail surfaces before reading the instruction manual or noticing the trim slider. LOL. You've done a great job with the flight model, this thing FEELS big! There are plenty of great looking planes in this game, far fewer that fly beautifully like this one. Good work.
@Ctracerx2 ATTACH POINTS! That mirror tool gets me every time with that. I spend hours building one side, mirror the parts, and cackle like a lunatic when I try to lift off and half of my plane falls to pieces like the glue got wet! I don't have the MP mod yet, but I will.
@Alex23 I removed the prop, still yaws to the left quite a bit. I wonder if it has to do with the tail surfaces being too small to combat the low COT at slower speeds.
Hard to say, man. Your most recent builds are hyper realistic looking, more so than even most experienced builders on here. I guess the best way to improve is to challenge yourself by getting out of your comfort zone. Try building something in a style you haven't tried, like retro or science fiction, something that will stretch your talent in new ways.
I tried reversing the rotation of the prop and now the plane rolls left. I think it's the prop :) Try installing a second one behind the first and reverse it's roatation, that might counterbalance things. Or just use a modded jet eninge for the inlet. Good luck, she sure is a beautiful plane!
@Warbirdnation To be fair, most military aircraft at the time weren't designed to last more than a couple years, and carrier planes suffer quite a lot of abuse. I'm actually working on a Dauntless-3 right now but the perforated dive brakes, telescopic bombsight, and wide open cockpit are giving me quite a bit of trouble.
You've got obvious talent, and a very unique visual approach. I'm often surprised by the incredible build quality on here, especially from creations that DONT get hundreds of votes. I think it has a lot to do with advertising, some planes are more well known, some contributors are better connected, and some preview pictures are just a lot catchier looking even when the plane itself is a bit dodgy. And let's not even get into stuff like timezones and peak hours. It can be frustrating, but I wouldn't worry too much.
Your physics kung-fu is very strong! I love how you have to go through a startup procedure like a real aircraft and the design looks really cool too. This creation is a triumph, you should be proud.
@TheGuyYouMightKnow Thanks, I think I will make a Dauntless. Seaplanes are tough because the center of thrust is so high up that the engines pull the nose down, but I figured out that the key is to use Finetuner to angle the tail so that it's always pulling the nose up. That and making the tail big and powerful seems to work.
I'm currently wrestling between the A6M Zero-Sen or the SBD Dauntless. Which one do you think I should do? You seem like you're really good at first generation jets, maybe the Grumman F9F Panther or the "Cougar" swept-wing variant. If you're tired of jets, and want something REALLY challenging, you could try building a seaplane like the Sunderland or the Catalina, you don't see many of those on here.
Unless you're interested in making uncommon aircraft, I'd stick with the Messerschmitt, most of the aircraft it replaced were biplanes. It was the main German fighter before the invasion of Poland and they even used it in the Spanish Civil War. What are you gonna do for Italy? They had some really gorgeous planes.
This plane absolutely deserved a great build like this, the last prop-fighter of the USN. I especially love the way it handles. I was considering this very plane for my next build, but now that you've done it justice I will find some other plane that needs a little attention. Either a Dauntless SBD or an A6M-21. What do you think?
@Killjoy543 Ok, so I can mod the wing gun to LOOK SORT OF like a 75mm, but it still makes that rattatat noise even if it only fires a single shot, and the shots either do normal (almost nothing) damage, or utterly wreck everything (bridges, carriers, anything) it touches. Neither option sounds much like the 75mm, which was a pretty wimpy cannon, but a pretty beastly aircraft weapon. Anyway, sorry I lied.
@vonhubert Shinmaywa US-2 is one of my favorites, but it was just released a couple years ago.
Thanks, Flyer
I LOVE THIS THING! The look, the feel, everything.
@SPflyer222 LOL. Yeah, he loves jumbo-jets. You're welcome, you threw in a ton of work on this thing.
@vonhubert As soon as I saw this thing, I thought "Von Hubert would love this." Sure enough, you are the first one to upvote!
So much detail!

@Hockeygoalie21 Also, the Supermarine Swift, if you wanna do something British.

Za Rodinu!

What
@Fishbowl1121 Yeah, I make aimable turrets a lot and it's always a problem.
@ChiChiWerx Agreed. Trim is the best way to build a plane that is stable over a wide range of speeds.
No problemo.

+1A plane that can defeat the missile launchers and safely (SAFELY!) land at the Ice Base.

Why the 1990 rule?
Dammit, I got dibs on the Catalina! :)

Good thing you don't want a Zero, there's only 2 left flying, and only one with a real Nakajima engine in it!

@Thomasj041 THIS! Build a monsterous off-road capable mobile SAM site, with a big box of missiles on it's back.

I haven't seen a good Libby in quite some time. An A-20 Havoc would be pretty cool too.
