Or maybe the water got too close to the missiles, lol.

Oh yeah! The O's beat the Yankees 5-3 down at old Memorial Stadium. 4 runs in the 7th, it was a thing of beauty. I tell ya, the Orioles may not win them all, but Baltimore always has stood by her team.
Short answer: yes, flaps change flight properties and when done correctly they increase lift.
Longer answer: you have to be careful how it's done. Main wing physics get a bit weird in SP so if you have very long (not wide, but long - nose to tail) wings sometimes the control surfaces work BACKWARDS. Most successful flaps use xml modding, rotors, or both.
Also, some have noted that flaps increase drag. This is true, because flaps increase lift and when it comes to wings lift IS drag. Basically, wings use carefully shaped drag to convert wind speed into lift, some wings are more efficient than others, using less drag to create more lift but almost all wings are only effective between the specific speeds and altitudes they were designed for. That's why flaps exist, they allow the wing to change shape and provide lift at lower than normal speeds.
@XxSoulAsasinxX You got it, man. I think you can Google " HTML Color Picker " and it will give you a tool where you pick the color/shade you want and it will spit out the code that the game uses. Great for doing authentic camo, etc.
For most WW2 aircraft equipped with turbochargers, their top speed was around 20,000 feet. For those without turbos expect it's maximum performance at lower altitudes like 10,000 feet. Jets often achieve top speed at very high altitudes, above 30,000 feet but it depends on the engine, some are designed for lower altitudes.
One way to guess is to learn how the plane was used and flown.
I posted a link to a real US Navy training video from WW2 in the description of one of my planes, if you're interested. It covers everything from approach to escape, and my plane works almost exactly like the real thing.
@planelover400 This guy here posted a pretty decent B-29. No bomb doors or interior, but it looks great. Let me know how it runs on your machine. https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/N02k6S/B-29-Lucy
@doge Oh, multiple engines can be throttled individually or as a group, no need to swap anything around. Throttle settings stay put now, instead of returning to zero when you deselect it's AG, so you just pick the motor(s) you want, set the gas, and then deselect them. I could do the same thing with prop pitch and the VTOL slider. The only problem is getting the player to read the instructions, assuming that using sliders and AG buttons isn't a pain in the neck for mobile users.
@MrDoolittle Is it really tricky doing that stuff? A four engine bomber is pretty boring to pilot, mostly just taxiing, taking off and getting to altitude. Many bombers will simply fall apart if you throw them around too much. Most of the real work is engine management, navigation and gunnery, so the more realistic I make the controls, the more stuff people have to do. But I certainly don't want to make something for mobile users that doesn't work.
Wings vary a great deal from plane to plane, even during the same decade by the same manufacturer. I'd recommend googling blueprints of specific bombers you like and seeing for yourself.
@WaffleCakes That's because your tires don't provide enough traction to overcome the torque of the asymmetrical thrust. If you slowly ease the the throttle up you might be able to get enough speed for your tail to help, but you'd probably run out of pavement before you had enough speed to take off.
I leave SP on while I'm researching aircraft and procrastinating, so while I'm sure it says many hundreds of hours, only a small fraction is actual flight time.
It's a great game for its price, most games that are 4 times as expensive shrivel up and die after only 30 or 40 hours. I saw a guy on steam give this game a negative review after 600 hours and I thought, "Yeah, right buddy. 600 hours for a 15 dollar game and you don't think it's a good deal. What a clown."
I'm very glad you've posted this. I've been pretty irritated by some of the posts around here lately and I even tried blocking a few people so as to avoid sharing a piece of my mind. Anyway, I try not to be too harsh and I wasn't sure how a post like this would go over (I don't think I would've phrased it as well), so I really appreciate you doing it for me.
You're going to have to either use dozens and dozens of jumbo turbofans or you're going to have to find someone willing to xml mod the weight and jet thrust for you.
Converting blocks to meters is a lot easier than blocks to feet. A lot more players might put a little effort into basing their replicas off of blue prints.
@KedrickTheMachineMaker School doesn't judge your intelligence. School judges your ability to complete tasks, retain instructions and fit into a formalized social setting. IN OTHER WORDS, it prepares you for a job. It sucks but believe me, my non-educated job sucks a lot worse than homework.
@Maxwell1 Honestly, the weird thing about this game is learning how to do it in the first place. What works, what doesn't work, when to try something else. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it, this plane played a decisive role in world history and the guys that made it fly deserve to be remembered.
@HumanIndustries Yeah, I'm not sure why more people don't make usable turrets. Isn't that funny?
Or maybe the water got too close to the missiles, lol.

@MrDoolittle You just earned yourself some upvotes, sir.

+1Hello, I am much less new but I am not old yet.
I'm just surprised I haven't seen a flying spoon full of baby food, or a flying fork with broccoli. "Open up, here comes the airplane!"
@Zott It probably would have been the most lethal night fighter of the war. Welcome to SP, good luck!
Hey, this is pretty good!
I've seen one of these in real life. It may seem awkward, but the allies were very lucky that this plane never saw mass production.
@RodWan The thing most builders neglect is stall speed, imo.
Red Baron, beware!

You have to edit the xml file, which IOS won't let you do. So just borrow an engine you like from someone else.
It always happens where the text ends before the "READ MORE" button. It's weird, but we're used to it and I actually thinks it's cute.

@ValtsuAircraftIndustries Thank you.

@ValtsuAircraftIndustries Thanks! And once the fire goes out it's just dead, right? No restarting it, no messing with prop pitch or anything?

@MrDoolittle Nah, I'm not a modder. I mess around with the xml tags a bit, but nothing that changes the game.

@doge True, I imagine the prop itself is easily damaged even if the motor itself is covered.
@MrDoolittle How do mobile users handle AGs and VTOL inputs?

Driving a race car across the sky as if it was solid ground

@TheLatentImage @F4f879 Thanks fellas, I will do my best not to disappoint. :)
@doge @ValtsuAircraftIndustries So it either just burns for a while and then goes out or explodes? Nothing else?
I think ---NEED--- is too strong a word for this, jmo.

Do what @LiamW said.
Looks great, flies.... less than great. But it does fly and it does look great.
Is it set to an activation group? (AG1 for example)
Good job, carrot man!
@jamesPLANESii XD
All I can say is I hope somebody does a Fairey Swordfish. I'd make one myself but I'm busy with another plane.
Nice catch!

@KedrickTheMachineMaker Suit yourself.

Sure, just spend years programming and designing your own game.

@AttestedArk Ha, me neither! XD
@Maxwell1 Hey, thanks man. I just about drove myself crazy making it.
Looks great, very impressive.
