@JohnnyBoythePilot all my friends were talking about it at school, so I joined in on the conversation, and my friend Weston was actually watching a livestream of it on Reddit!
@MrPorg137 Yes, they actually tried. Either they had a death wish, or they were just being idiots. I mean, it's Area 51, did they not know that it was heavily fortified and had defense posts everywhere?
@JohnnyBoythePilot killed today, at the event. They actually tried to literally invade the actual base, and we can only imagine how quickly they were mowed over by 50 Cals, or something else. There were actually 4 recorded attempts of an actual invasion of the base, two were killed, and the other two you mentioned were the others that tried to invade, but were arrested.
The funny thing is that people have actually joined the raid. In fact, the people who work at Area 51 actually set up a sort of Music Fest style event where the raiders are redirected to, so instead of being lit up by almost every guard on sight, (there have been two recorded deaths so far. 😑) they can go and have a good time at the festival event, there's music, Area-51 related games and stuff you can do, I even saw a picture of merchandise, my favorite being a shirt that says "I survived the Raid!" with alien faces on it. Honestly, it sounds like a good time, just as long as you aren't stupid, and actually try to legitimately raid the base, because you will be either arrested on the spot, or killed if necessary. It'd be funny if the people working at Area 51 actually made this into an annual thing that happens every September 20th, although I doubt that would actually happen, lol.
As happy as I am that SimpleRockets II is now out for mobile, I'm a little disappointed that you didn't release it tomorrow, as it would've been perfectly timed with the Area-51 Raid!
@Theflyingtrex it's hard to notice, but it's actually trying to destroy a German submarine. Keyword trying, he's trying his best, he just needs practice though.
@MegaFox here's a little tip that could be pretty cool: use fuselage blocks to make a hollow container, and put a flare dispensers inside of it. When you dispense the flares, they should get trapped inside the container, resulting in a smoke trail effect. You could use this to make it look like there's actually smoke coming out of the smoke-stacks on your ships!
This is called the Doppler Effect. The Doppler Effect is when soundwaves sort of, for lack of better term, overlap each other and form some interesting sounds. For instance, have you ever heard a Police Chaser or an Ambulance go rushing by with their sirens activated? You may notice that as it's coming towards you, it makes the generic sound effect of a siren. But as it passes you and drives off, you may notice that the sounds change in pitch. This is because as it drives towards you, you're receiving a lot more soundwaves being launched towards you, but as it drives off, they too will trail off because they aren't hitting you with as high of a frequency. This is more noticeable in SimplePlanes when you have slow motion activated. For instance, if you're flying a jet, it'll obviously be very loud. But it doesn't sound like the generic jet sound we're used to hearing when a jet aircraft flys overhead irl. This is because of the Doppler Effect:
If you're standing on the ground, stationary, and an aircraft flys overhead, you'll hear the engine sounds build up, and then trail off, much like the siren of a Police Chaser or an ambulance like I explained earlier. However, most of the time we're playing SimplePlanes, we are in either Chase or Orbit View. Because of this, we're in a fixed position around the plane, and we hear a constant jet sound that doesn't change in pitch or tone, since the camera goes the same speed as your aircraft. Now, I explained earlier that this is more noticeable in slow motion. Why? Well for starters, the soundwaves travel in slow motion as well as everything else, so if a jet engine is running, and you're next to it, it'll sound like a constant hum or roar, since you aren't moving. However, if you zoom out with the camera, and then zoom back in very quickly, you are running into every soundwave created by the jet engine, except due to the fact that you're moving the camera very quickly, the soundwaves are still in slow motion, and therefore you'll be running into each soundwave at a much higher frequency than normal, which results in a warped, almost dial-up sound effect. Those dilapidated, warped sounds you hear coming from the Jet-Engines on your, and I will say, beautiful airliner, are the result of the soundwaves hitting and being received at the camera's location at a higher or lower frequency. For more information on the Doppler Effect, click here. For an actual build in SimplePlanes that demonstrates the Doppler Effect, click here. If you've read this entire thing, pat yourself on the back.
The thing I like the most about this is that I can actually run it on my IPad, I was worried the part count would be too high but it actually runs fine! I love how nice the cockpit looks too, very nicely done!
@MrHoboDuck Hi, and welcome to SimplePlanes. I'll be your tour guide for today!
There are a set of rules to follow, and as long as you follow them, you'll be good to go!
- No sexually aggressive content, for instance don't make and post a plane that looks like something, umm, "questionable."
- Don't copy other users builds, for instance don't download someone else's plane, post it, and claim it as your own work.
- No frequent profanity, once in a while is ok, just not all the time, as there are younger users here.
Those are just the main rules to follow here, if you want more information, click here.
A few tips:
You can only upload three aircraft per day, and 10 unlisted aircraft per day. This is so people don't spam aircraft like crazy, clogging up the website. If someone isn't being very nice to you, you can block them by clicking on the triangle next to the reply button on a comment, and click on "Block User". An upvote on a forum post (you'll learn about those later!) is worth two points, and an upvote on a build is worth 15 points. There are a set of ranks that players are given if they reach a certain amount of points. The ranks are as follows:
- Carbon, 0-100 points
- Bronze, 101-1000 points
- Silver, 1001-5000 points
- Gold, 5000-25000 points
- Platinum, 25000+ points
For example, I'm a Platinum user, since I have more than 25000 points. You're a carbon user, since you haven't gotten any points yet since you're new here.
I hope I've simplified the essentials here enough.
Thank you for joining, and welcome to SimplePlanes. We hope you enjoy your time here.
Ah, this brings back memories. Our favorite campsite just recently closed for good, and now we'll never be able to go there again. Atleast I can still do it in SimplePlanes!
I don't know what it is, but there's just something about early WWI and WWII Russian Bombers that I just find so cool about them, maybe it's their unique design, their size, idk. But whatever it is, early Russian Bombers will always be one of my favorite types of aircraft from history.
@FairFireFight well you can start today! They're like five dollars at AC-Moore, or basically any craft store or something like that. I usually get them off of Amazon, EBay, or any other shopping website, they're pretty cheap.
While yes, this is very mysterious, you could easily just be saying that you saw UFOs in the game, when really you just spawned something in, and told us AI was off.
I'm not saying I disagree, but I'm just saying people could easily mistake this for that, it isn't exactly the easiest thing to tell if someone is lying or not when you're on the internet.
Pretty cool though, I wonder if it's a little Easter-Egg that was coded into the game that we don't know about.
@JohnnyBoythePilot all my friends were talking about it at school, so I joined in on the conversation, and my friend Weston was actually watching a livestream of it on Reddit!
@Strikefighter04 thanks, my personal favorite is probably the AH-64 Apache with the explosion in the background.

@QingyuZhou WHY DID YOU SPOTLIGHT THIS I THOUGHT WE AGREED THAT WE WOULD FORGET THIS NIGHTMARE FOREVER

@QingyuZhou sounds good, my iPad would spontaneously combust if I tried to run that many parts at once, lol.
@QingyuZhou lag? What lag? For a total part count of 2,106, I'd say that that's pretty damn good FPS wise. What physics do you take?

@RailfanEthan want me to send you a pic of the real thing?
@Viper3000ad ooh, that's actually not a bad idea, I may have to try that someday!
@robloxweponco Graham's Number
+3Lol, this is great!
+1@klm747klm747 wow, what device do you use?
Awesome design!
+1@Murks you set the length of the fuselage to a negative number via XML.
@Viper3000ad the real one is rubber band powered, this one is powered by an engine, because that's just how SimplePlanes works.
Really nice interior, what's the part count so far?
Is nobody going to mention the lack of an ATC at Wright Airport?
+1Congratulations!
