B.M.C Merkur 1967 (East-German Police car) (fictional)
Fictional Lore:
After WWII and the communist takeover of Hungary, the original B.M.C factory in Budapest fell under state control, making the company's management evacuate their headquarters to the US branch and continue to operate only in the West. After the takeover, the Budapest factory was forced to produce agricultural machinery, trucks and military vehicles. In the 1960s however, seeing Fiat's cooperation with the VAZ factory, the US B.M.C made an attempt to reach out to the Hungarian state in an attempt to restart car manufacturing in the Budapest factory. A deal was struck, that the US branch would provide designs and some technology for the production of new cars, in exchange for the Hungarian state paying royalty fees from the revenue of these cars. Thanks to this, the first new design in the Budapest factory (now called the "Állami Motor Gyár B." or "State Motor Factory B." but often just called "B.M.C-East") entered production, named the Merkur. The car was meant to be a cheap, affordable small car for the workers in the eastern-bloc countries. The result was very successful. While the Merkur was definitely not up to the quality of western cars, it was still a reliable car and soon became much beloved throughout the eastern-bloc. 5 years later, the company woud try to replace it with the much more modern, higher quality Minerva models, but the Merkur was so popular that it remained in production all the way to the mid 80s. The Merkur was especially popular in East-Germany, so much so that even the Volkspolizei and the Nationale Volksarmee fielded it in large numbers.
