Auto Credit Based on EternalDarkness's Air Defence Challenge [CLOSED]

Hi all, Snow back here.

Just a last minute attempt at the Air Defence Challenge I came to the knowledge of yesterday.

Not really the best build, but this is the first time I’ve ever entered a challenge.

An “modified” version of a towed 40mm Bofors- I’ve based it off the real Bofors, but “modified” it, hence the weird designation of Bofors 40 mm L/90X. So technically not a replica, and fiction? And this will go in the guns category.

Some gifs.

Gun setup system- although normally meant to be towed on wheels, when getting ready for firing the wheels can fold up to provide a stable shooting platform.

Gun traverse and elevation.

Gunner View, with elevation crank. Not pictured is the traverse crank on the 2nd gunners seat.

Details- the foot trigger on the 1st gunner’s seat can depress. The screen thingy is a representation of what the Cam 1 (Gunsight) should show.

Firing, with my reciprocating barrel mechanism.

The effective range is about ~1km, with a 900RPM firing rate (40mm shells @ that speed makes no sense, but to shoot stuff down in SP there really is no way).

Operation: Mouse aim. Use Mouse as Joystick for aiming, the gun will follow mouse movements. Cam 1 is set to the “gunsight” / radar thing on the gun.

Not my usual, but was good experience as a speed build.
Have fun with this, as always.

For @EternalDarkness:

Responses to prompts from the contest page.

  1. Inspired by the 40 mm Bofors M1 (US Army), although very different in terms of performance. 2 gunners' seats have been made. Left is the 1st gunner for elevation and firing, 2nd gunner controls traverse.
  2. Range is generally ~1km. Designed for slow-moving (<500kph) fixed-wing targets and helicopters. Muzzle velocity of 960m/s so aiming shouldn't be too much of an hassle- a spray in the expected direction of movement will reliably grant hits.
  3. Moving stuff- elevation gears were initially attempted but scrapped, but are still there for aesthetics. Custom guns and whatnot, recoiling barrel present.
  4. Description is written as best as I can.

@SnoWFLakE0s Mine is almost done! Just a few details and some fixes. The only problem is that meeting the 150 minimum part count. Since I build usually build stuff with with low part count lol.
