Luigi Colani Pontresina

6,356 Aeromotive  6.6 years ago

This is the Pontresina, designed and actually built by Luigi Colani. This design was a concept for an aircraft that could raise the world speed & altitude record for piston powered aircraft. One thing you may notice is the unusual propeller design in the back, this is to get as much power out of the engine as possible without the tips of the propeller exceeding the speed of sound (this would have a significant effect on the performance). It's calculated top speed would be around mach 0.9 at very high altitudes.

- Extra Controls:

AG8 - Toggle landing gear yaw control
Trim - trim the aircraft for level flight at all speeds

- Performance:

Top speed at 1520 m (5000 ft): 725 km/h (451 mph)
Climb rate: Super fast
Stall speed: 120-130 mph
Powerplant: 1x 1700 hp supercharged inverted H-16 engine
Propeller: 2x Contrarotating 5 bladed Colani design propellers

@BaconAircraft Yup those curves are indeed unique, same as his aircraft. Maybe one day we'll see them come to life!
