Panther Ausf. D

7,298 SchwarzerRitter  7.5 years ago

(PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION, for controls and a bit of history on this fierce feline, and note, I have included a full interior for the hull, but not the turret.)

I will be also working on making all variants, from here, (Ausf.D) all the way to Ausf.G. Probably will try to make a Jagdpanther, and Bergepanther aswell. Panther M/10 is being considered. Coelian is being done after.

**NOTE: As this is a very big and complex vehicle, it is NOT mobile-friendly. **

(EDIT: Wowee, 41 upvotes, thanks for the support you guys, I didn't expect people to like it this much!)

HISTORY
-------------

The Sonderkraftfarzeug.171 Panzerkamfwagen V, or "Panther" was an German medium tank built by Germany in 1943.

During the invasion of France, it became clear that Germany needed a tank with a far superior cannon. The 50mm and 75mm short-barreled guns couldn't penetrate the thick armor of French tanks, like the Char B1, or the British Matilda. On the Eastern front, things became more harder, as the new Soviet T-34 medium, and the KV-1 had armor capable of withstanding anything the Germans had. Thus, a contract was made to be fulfilled by three companies , Krupp, Daimler Benz, and the MAN design.

Initially, the DB design was chosen, though, but a commission was set up to convince Hitler that the MAN design should be chosen because it was more conventional, and had a less complex gearbox, didn't need to wait around for the new turret to be produced, and thus more fit for the German situation.

In the Battle of Kursk, the first Panthers, labeled "Ausf.D" or "Type D" rolled off the production lines, and onto the Russian steppes. Though these featured a high-velocity 75mm cannon, that flung shells in an almost straight line, many Panthers did not reach the battle due to mechanical problems, or the un-reliable Maybach HL-230 catching on fire. Nonetheless, these faults were corrected to a degree in later models, such as the Ausf. A, and Ausf. G.

CONTROLS
----------------
(*The Panther has a winter camouflage, circa Winter 1943 in Siberia on. If you wish to change it to, say, a summer camouflage, you can.*)

Throttle to accelerate, and the Panther can only go 16 mph. You may notice that the front sprocket wheel turns when you go forward, but once you go to a complete stop, they will "rewind" back to their original position. This is something I cannot correct. And note, the tank may get stuck if it is on an excessive slope, like a hill. It is best used on flat ground.

AG1 to activate the cannon traverse and turret rotation. VTOL for the main gun to move up and down, and TRIM for the turret to move.

AG2 and VTOL to open/ close the cupola's hatch.

Spacebar to fire the machine gun, and it is co-axial, so it will go up and
down with the gun.

As for the shells, I have put a missile pod into the main gun, and it can fire 7 shots. Consider these to be your Panzergranate.39/42 or AP rounds. If you run out of shells however, use the MG-42, it can rip apart enemies more efficiently than the 75mm can. The 75mm shells/ rockets are just for when you REALLY have to kill that annoying T-34-76.

Have fun blasting the Eastern front!

@UnknownNate Yes, I know, it's rather detailed... and not mobile-friendly for sure, but you never can have enough historical accuracy... unless it's a Russian tank, of course.

@Adlerkrieg I can enjoy only the pictures, as my phone can't handle it. On the other hand, a friend with a more powerful device provided for me some pictures of its interior, and I must say, I'm amazed. Keep up the good work.
