CBP-34 Koptis

The CBP-34 Koptis is a third-fifth generation Main Battle Tank designed by Iron Dome Land Systems in 1989. The tank entered service in 1997, succeeding the obsolete CBP-12 Sfina and CBP-14 Touvo as the MBT of the Armee Terrestre. Early models were armed with a 120mm Smoothbore cannon, with 2015 models being armed with a 130mm Smoothbore cannon and are powered by an 1800hp Gas Turbine Engine. It is currently only in service with the Quarian Armee Terrestre.

All models digital fire control systems with laser rangefinders, a fully stabilized main gun and coaxial machine gun allowing for fire-on-the-move capability, and advanced night-vision and sighting equipment. The tank is protected by a mixed layer of undisclosed materials and spaced armor with an appliqúe package covering the sides and a slat cage package covering the rear of the tank.

Development

Before the introduction of the CBP-34 Koptis, The Ground Warfare Branch of the Forces Armées de la République Fédérale du Quare, the Armee Terrestre, had been using the CBP-12 Sfina(Essentially an Strv 103), the CBP-14 Touvo(essentially an Strv 104 mixed with a bit of Strv 105 and 106) MBTs. The Sfina and the Touvo were introduced in 1960 and 1975, with the Touvo incorporating lessons learned from the Sfina. By the early 1980s it was clear to the Armee Terrestre's chain of command that the two tanks were outdated and unable to deal with the increasingly difficult arms race(arms bandwagon lmfao) going on around the world. With this, requirements and plans for a new MBT called the "Advanced Battle Tank" were established in 1981. Only when the Republic of Aurum also deemed their M21 Alopix Is inadequate and set up requirements that were coincidentally similar to those of the Quarian requirements, they requested that they join in for a joint development.

The joint project for an ABT did not go as smoothly as the Quarians thought, with the project quickly getting costly, and ended up making an MBT that had somewhat improved capabilities compared to the Sfina, the Touvo, and the Alopix I with a surprisingly significant cost. With this, the project was canned in 1988.

Now knowing that they shouldn't rely on foreign nations for equipment as big as an MBT, the Quarians prepared to design their MBT from scratch. Three companies, Hailstorm Defense, Iron Dome Land Systems, and Marileium Universal Systems were given a contract for MBT designs in early 1989. The Iron Dome Land Systems prototype won the contract, and was designated CBP-34 ABT, later named Koptis. FSED was inacted in 1990, with early Koptises having teething problems that were easily ironed out. With the fixes done, LRIP was inacted in the advent of 1997. Full-scale production was inacted in 1999, and given upgrades to be what it is today.

The baseline model was at 65 metric tons, with later upgrades making it at 70-75 metric tons.

Design

Countermeasures

Camouflage:

Most of the Armee Terrestre's AFVs used schemes of C2B280(Desert) and 111700(Woodland-like terrain). with the introduction of the CBP-34 Koptis and VBCIS-13 Xyphos, it has been replaced by A69767(Desert) and 475242(Woodland-like terrain).

The Armee Terrestre can equip its Koptises with a variety of thermopolymer and advanced camouflage systems depending on the mission.

Concealment

The turret is fitted with a pair of modular 5-barrel smoke grenade launchers, with one on each side in three stacks each. When deployed, the grenades airburst, creating a layer of thick smoke that blocks visual, infrared, thermal, and millimeter-wave radar detection. The Koptis also has an Engine Obscurant Generation System that is activated by the driver. Activation of the system will cause fuel to be sprayed into the hot turbine exhaust, creating a thick layer of smoke that only blocks visual detection.

The Smoke Grenade Launchers can launch chaff and flares to confuse missiles aimed at it.

The Koptis can also be given radar-absorbent materiel to reduce detection chances by radar.

Armor

Like most tanks, the Koptis incorporates composite armor and other materials into the front sides of the turret. This modular array is supposed to protect from both KE and CE rounds equally. The composition is mostly classified. Spall protection is provided by 2 layers of kevlar/aramid. The turret roof is also protected by an unknown armor package.

All of these can be taken off and replaced in the field.

Add-on Packages

The Koptis is fitted with appliqúe composite armor and a slat cage package, now called Chelona Appliqúe. This is now part of the Koptis after lessons learned in certain wars by other nations. When fighting in urban areas due to unknown reasons, the Pack de Combat Urbain avec Char can be fitted to the Koptis. A V-Hull Addon is now standard for the tank to protect from mines and IEDs.

All of these can be taken off and replaced in the field.

Active Protection

Marileium Universal Systems has provided an APS suite named "Escutcheon" that protects against a variety of threats. It works as a layered defense with the two softkills being the first and second line of defense, and the hardkills forming the rest.

Survivability

All of the Koptis main gun ammo is protected by blowout panels. These seal the ammunition away from the crew if they get set off by enemy fire.

The Driver's compartment has a coated layer of fireproof materials and aramid to increase their survival chance when the tank is hit. The fuel tanks near the driver's position are self-sealing.

Damage Control

The Koptis is equipped with a Halon Firefighting system to automatically extinguish fires in the crew compartment. The engine has a fire suppression system that is engaged by the driver by pulling a T-handle located in the driver's position.

Other

The Koptis's crew is protected by an overpressure CBRN system.

Electronic Warfare

The Koptis is equipped with a Marileium Universal Systems DE(IED)-18 Doukas Counter-IED System in a form of two pole-like IED jammers.

Communications, Datalinking, and Networking

The Koptis is equipped with the Quick Share datalinking system that transmits and recieves info from/to other vehicles. It relies on what the
platform equips, including BMS, GPS, FCBC2, BFTs, Ammunition Datalinking, and the Ferric Sight system integrated into the tanker's HMDs.

Armament

Primary

WM38

The main armament of early Koptises was an autoloaded Hailstorm Defense L44 WM38 120mm cannon firing a variety of rounds including APFSDS, HEAT-FS, HEAT-MP, and APERS rounds. The tank was able to carry 48 rounds all in the turret bustle ammo stowage.

WM40ETC

Current Koptises use an autoloaded Hailstorm Defense L44/L47/L50 WM40ETC 130mm ETC Cannon. This is a response to The Republic of Aurum's usage of 125mm cannons. The WM40ETC can fire APFSDS-T, HEP-T, HEAT-MP-T, APAM, STAFF, and GLATGMs.

WM45ETC

Koptises will in 2030 be refitted with the Hailstorm Defense L44/L47/L50 WM45 ETC Cannons to boost their armament.

Secondary

  1. A .50 cal HMG(early Koptises use M2HB 50 cals, later ones use domestic Aetos Armories HMG-50 Model 10s and 10As) mounted to a TSAC-12 CRWS(400 rounds).
    TSAC-12

  2. A coaxial Aetos Armories GPMG-338 Model 1 Lapua/Norma Magnum(8500 rounds). It is aimed and fired with the same computerized FCS as the main gun.

  3. A second GPMG-338 Model 1 GPMG(150 rounds) in a skate mount and with a gunshield.
    lol ok

  4. (Optional) A coaxial 14.5mm Aetos Armories HMG Model 12(220 rounds) mounted on the mantlet. The commander can choose to fit it on or not.

Fire Control and Sensors

The Koptis uses a ballistic fire-control computer that displays user and system-supplied data from a variety of sources to compute, display, and incorporate the three components of a ballistic solution - lead angle, ammo type, and range from the target, to accurately fire the main gun and coaxial/s. These three components are determined using a laser rangefinder,
crosswind sensor, a pendulum static cant sensor, data concerning performance and flight characteristics of each specific type of round, tank-specific boresight alignment data, ammunition temperature, air temperature, barometric pressure, a muzzle reference system (MRS) that determines and compensates for barrel drop at the muzzle due to gravitational pull and barrel
heating due to firing or sunlight, and target speed determined by tracking rate tachometers in the Gunner's or Commander's Controls Handles. All of these factors are computed into a ballistic solution and updated 30 times per second. The updated solution is displayed in the Gunner's or Tank Commander's field of view in the form of a reticle in both day and Thermal modes. The ballistic computer manipulates the turret and a complex arrangement of mirrors so that all one has to do is keep the reticle on the target and fire to achieve a hit. Proper lead and gun tube elevation are applied to the turret by the computer, greatly simplifying the job of the gunner.

To help with lead for moving targets, later models use an AI system that calculates the speed and turret traverse rate needed. Early models use a standard tracking system.

The Koptis has access to a variety of sensor systems. The commander has access to a sophisticated panoramic sight which contains both an Nd:YAG laser rangefinder as well as a ×2.5, ×5, ×10, x15, x25, x50, x75, and 90x magnification direct day channel and a ×2.5, ×7.5, ×15, x20, and x25,x 50, x75, and 90x magnification video channel on top of a night vision mode for the electronic channel. The gunner has a sight with a ×2.5 and ×10, x15, x25, x50, x75, and 90x direct day channel and a ×2.5, ×5 and ×10, x15, x25, x50, x75, and 90x video channel with night vision mode. All periscopes on the tank are fully digital; all three crew also have fifth-generation thermals incorporated into their digital periscopes. These periscopes/vision ports also have analog backups if the digital systems are down.

The Koptis uses an IFF system to identify and distinguish targets and allies.

Mobility

Tactical

The Koptis's powertrain consists of a Jettars Motorworks 1800GT 1800hp Multifuel Gas Turbine Engine capable of 1700-1800 shaft HP at 4250 rpm and a Kerlonceaux Motorworks A55 20-speed Automatic Transmission, giving it a governed speed of 87kph forward and 85 kph reverse(for paved roads) and 80 kph forward and 70kph reverse(cross-country).

The Koptis, starting with the A2s, have a Dynamic Track Tension System to reduce chances of throwing tracks in sharp turns.

A 135kg APU/Dynamo Generator built by Marileium is installed to power critical systems if the engine is down.
