F/A-18C Hornet

16.3k greasytortle  6.1 years ago

Based off my earlier F-18, This one has been tweaked and perfected while keeping a relatively low part count. Changes include a custom nose gear with extending launch bar, Refueling probe, Reshaped rudders, Redesigned airbrake, Strengthened wings (No more wing wobble) each with an extra weapon pylon, and overall adjustment. I also used a paint mod to get slightly different colors.

The aircraft is able to land on the USS Beast and take off from where the forward catapults are. I find that landing requires a good approach speed of 180mph from 2 miles away and try to reduce speed so you don't stall until touchdown. You usually stop braking right at the front of the ship. If you're too fast, full throttle, engage afterburner and try again.

AG1: Engage Afterburner
AG2: Extend/Retract Tailhook
AG3: Extend/Retract Wings
AG4: Release Fuel Tank
AG5: Extend/Retract Launchbar Keep retracted for take off and landing
AG6: Extend/Retract Refueling Probe
AG7 Anti-Collision Lights On/Off
AG8 Enable/Disable nose gear turning
VTOL: Flaps

I made a Blue Angels varient here:

I also converted it into a Super Hornet which can be found here:

Thank you @Vaylos for helping me with the wing wobble issue

@Minecraftpoweer I've built the Maverick as a miniature plane. I'll link you in it.

@greasytortle have you done the missile and the body of the missile?

@Minecraftpoweer Sure! I've never directly collaborated with anyone yet. Do you know how to attach parts to bombs and missiles. I'm guessing it may work the same as the smoke trail mechanism.

@Minecraftpoweer Yeah maybe swap out those Boom50s for more realistic looking JDAMs and those Infernos for Mavericks. I made a player controlled AGM-65 Maverick this morning but I still don't know how to link parts to weapons. Might upload those if I figure it out. for now the Guardian and Interceptor make good AIM-9s and AIM-120s.

Idk why it does that but i would gues that you were right about the suspensiona and it probably does it because it retracts on an angle and maybe it can be fixed by editing the mass of the Wheels. Overall it is really good and flies very well. Tht thing that would be beter would be custom weapons.

@BroAeronautics I do plan on making this into a Super Hornet at some point but I've always perfered single seat fighters. I could always extend the canopy backwards into the two seat versions. Correct me if I'm wrong but between the F-18C and F-18D, is there no difference in shape/size besides the longer canopy for the extra seat?

@greasytortle also, have you ever considered building an F/A-18D and/or an EA-18G Growler?

@greasytortle yep, lettering in SP is a pain. But if you manage to do it properly it will make builds look a lot better. Mind tagging me on release?

@Razor3278 I'll definitely tag him once I complete the Blue Angel. Right now I got the yellow accents and a number "6" on the tail fins. Im debating whether or not I should add the big "US NAVY" font on the underwings as it won't be able to mirror and I hate not having things aligned right. Any other fonts will just be too small and I'm not that patient.

@greasytortle it might work better if you base theSiper Hornet off this one.

@BroAeronautics Thats somewhere next on my list. I'm not sure if I should build it off this one or start brand new. Right now I'm making a Blue Angels varient and I'm new to detailing planes so theres that. @Razor3278 Thanks for the link I now have a working smoke trail.

You can try using this to make the smoke trails. Also nice build! Flies well and looks good.
