Experimental french planes serie

My second bomber.

This time, three times faster than the other.

SNCASO SO.4070 "Minerve" 1957 (France). Mach 3+ nuclear bomber (project).

Controls :

AG8 : close canopy
AG1 : Turn on the main engine (SNECMA SUPER ATAR)
AG2 and AG3 : Turn on the two detachable Nord ramjets
AG4 and AG5 : detach ramjets
AG6 : Drop the AN11 nuclear bomb
VTOL : Adjust roll rate
Trim : Adjust trim

Do not take off this machine on the Bandit Airport runway. This thing needs a long runway to take off.

About this plane :

This supersonic bomber project was designed to reach speeds of Mach 3 to 3.5. It presented itself as a very thin delta wing aircraft. Its engine included a single SNECMA SUPER ATAR engine, mounted above the fuselage and under the fin and two detachable Nord ramjets attached to the wing, for high-speed flight.

To take into account the kinetic heating, a structure either in stainless steel or in titanium was already proposed.

The machine was equipped with a single track landing gear. The plane had only one crew member installed in a cockpit with very limited visibility, which required steering by means of a radio guidance system, but this, at the time, was not found to be very reliable.

Finally, the Air Force opted for Dassault's Mirage IV, considered less revolutionary in its design but easier to implement.
