this is the Mark and Hammel MH-17 dive bomber for the fictional aircraft challenge

history

The mark and Hammel MH-17 is a carrier borne dive bomber able to be armed with 1 250lb, armor persing bomb. Its design was first thought up by Mark Werlda and Hammel Werlda in their basement in 1933. With the money they had they came together and brought the design to the us navy as they were looking for new aircraft designs for their carrier fleet. The plane was given a small contract to build one plane for testing. It took 1 year to make the prototype and had successfully trials. The plane was however disregarded by the navy as an even better plane was created. But in 1940 as rising tensions started to flair up, the navy finally looked back at the MH-17 and gave it a contract for 1000 units to be produced. Production was slow with the first plane being put in active service in October of 1941. Two months later the us was wrapped into ww2 and the production of the MH-17 ramped up with the order almost completed by the end of july 1942. The plane saw combat in the Pacific theater with a few being shipped to the russians. The success of the MH-17 was hit or miss ( pun intended) and was easily taken down if flanked in the rear, but with 4 50.cals in the front it could rip up any plane infront of it. By the end of the war there were a limited amount in service, and in another month it was totally fased out of combat service, and many were scraped. Through its 4 years of service it sunk a total of 200 vessels, with another 340 being damaged, out of 2000 known missions.

WARNING

When trying to land if you use airbrakes it will pitch down causing the plane to possibly slam into the ground and break apart.
landing with the bomb is not advised as the bomb slams into the ground and explodes.
