125 000 point and 600 followers celebration (a bit late)

Aurora is a lead ship of Aurora class, a class of 34 multirole frigates of M.Corp Navy. Designed for both standalone and fleet operations, Aurora class ships are a workhorse of the M.Corp Navy. It features open software infrastructure and ability to quickly swap mission modules.

Design

Overview

Aurora is a ship of the standard layout, with reduced radar cross section. It is 127m long and 20m wide. It desplaces 5500t. Its very long endurance makes it ideal for showing M.Corp flag around the world.

Armament

In terms of armament, Aurora is a heavy hitter. With its modular offensive armament usually consisting of 60 vertical launch tubes amidship (2x30), combined with front VLS holding 10 anti-ship or anti-submarine missiles, it is capable of protecting a fleet from both airborne and surface/underwater threats. Ship is also equipped with a powerful 130mm cannon firing up to 60 rounds per minute, and 2x3 torpedo tubes for destroying submarines.

Defensive armament of Aurora class ships consists of two RAMs, each holding 22 missiles, and 4 30mm cannons in remotely operated turrets. Additional defense measures include flares, decoys, and electronic countermeasures.

Sensors

Aurora class has a wide variety of cutting edge sensors on its disposal. They include dual band search and track radar (DBST), visual/infrared search and track systems, fixed and towed sonar, and navigation radar.

Propulsion

Ships of this class are powered by new Hydrogen engines. That, combined with the ability to distill its own hydrogen from the water, eliminates the need for fuel tanks, and gives this class theoretically infinite endurance. The lack of large fuel tanks also increases storage space, reduces weight, and allows for larger and more powerful (less economic) engines to be installed, because there's enough fuel for them, as long as the ship is in the water. Small gas tanks for storing hydrogen are installed to provide fuel in case that both primary and backup hydrogen distillation units fail.

Other

Aurora class ships are equipped with 4 10.5m RHIBs, and 2 helicopters. Out of its 230 crew members, 40 are dedicated to boat operation (Naval infantry), 50 comprise its airwing, and the rest are enlisted sailors and officers.

Notes

  • There is a bug with the ships 130mm gun that prevents recoil when the gun is elevated. I have tried to fix it a number of times, rebuilding it as slightly different every time, but it just won't work. Since you will probably be using it to shoot other ships, you won't need it.

  • RAM systems and 30mm guns are not functional. I have decided to keep them simple, in order to reduce part count. You wouldn't be able to use them effectively anyway.

  • I haven't bothered much about torpedo tubes, as they can't serve their purpose on SP (Anti-submarine). If you want to launch at ships, aim over the barrel.

  • Helicopter is not functional. I had to save parts, so I removed its functional components. You can find a flyable helicopter here

Controls

  • AG-1 to activate weapons and open hatches;
  • Roll to steer;
  • Throttle to sail;
  • VTOL and Trim to control the turret.

Enjoy.

    can you build the hull with the bridge?

    @Helicopterboy can you remind me tomorrow please? Today was a bit rough, and I'm really not in the mood.

    @EternalDarkness I said "modernized", which includes such defense systems. I think I'll just stick with maintaining control over space.

    @KerlonceauxIndustries it depends. At 3km range, yes. But since Aurora can engage targets at over 700km, and HMS Belfast has no anti-missile protection, in most cases, no.

    Could a modernized version of the Town-class light cruiser (HMS Belfast is probably the best example) beat a ship like this? Just curious. I can always just stick with conquering space otherwise.

    Hydrogen engines? Seems efficient. Could be an alternative to our fusion propulsion systems we use on our medium and larger ships.

    I would strip this down to let it work on my phone. See you in years!

    @PyrusEnderhunter no. I am strictly a solo builder. I can help you with advice or two along the way, but not participate in the design. I believe that making a compromise between my and other player's style would satisfy neither one of us.

    True that is one way to do it also I was wondering a compromise maybe you could build the functional guns as a separate build with instructions on how to properly install them and people can download them and swap them out @Aaron2107 @EternalDarkness

    @Aaron2107 is it? Put ten miles between you and them, and knock them all out with cleavers. This ship is near the limits of what my device can handle, so I had to sacrifice some things.

    Also I honestly feel like you really cheated this build out of it’s true glory by not adding real ram systems and 30 mm guns this thing is a weakling in combat against the destroyers

    If you don’t think it would be hard you should add counter measures pods to the ship and xml the ships hull health so it doesn’t break up so easily
