  • Fixed incorrect traction multipliers of rear-left wheel (0.7,0.7 --> 0.6,0.6), which was causing instability on throttle and brake application
  • Increased drag (~400 --> ~800)
  • I actually made these changes over a month ago but I forgot to upload them :skull:

YAMASHIRO MRC FLEX-V (M50C pr. 2016)
Compact sports car

YAMASHIRO MOTORS' mid-engined, rear wheel drive sports car. With the factory small-diameter turbocharger installed, the engine produces upwards of 200 PS at 5700 RPM.

In place of the usual six-speed manual transmission, buyers can choose a FLEX-V transmission, a CVT with record-breaking response speeds and a wide range of ratios. However, it comes with a disadvantage for power tuners - the engine can only make up to around 300 horsepower, beyond which the lifespan of the transmission is severely reduced.

USER MANUAL

CONTROLS

Pitch - Engine throttle
Roll - Steer
Yaw LEFT - Shift down (MT mode only)
Yaw RIGHT - Shift up (MT mode only)
VTOL - Drive mode select
Trim - RPM range mode select (D mode only)
Activate3 - Linear steering mode
Activate6 - Fog lights
Activate7 - Headlights

The following actions are only available through physical controls:

  • Open/close doors
  • Indicator and hazard lights

DRIVE MODE

The VTOL slider is used as the gear shifter of the automatic transmission. From top to bottom, the position of the slider represents: Parking, Reverse, Neutral, Drive (CVT), simulated MT.

RPM RANGE MODE

The Trim slider is used to select from multiple CVT behavior modes. From middle to bottom, the position of the slider represents: Racing (max. 5700 RPM), Sport (max. 4500 RPM, ~75% power), Eco (max. 3000 RPM, ~50% power).

LINEAR STEERING MODE

For steering wheel users. Set the steering wheel range to 900 degrees and activate AG3.

EDIT GUIDE

Materials:
0: Body
2: Rims
13: Interior, main
16: Instrument panel (modifications to labels required)
18: License plate background
19: License plate text

MT gear ratios:
Adjustable using ratio1 to ratio6. They must be within the range ratiocmin..ratiocmax.

Fixed chase camera:
The labels are connected to the Orbit Camera, so it is possible to adjust the position of the camera while retaining the position of the labels on the screen.

RESOURCES

DEV NOTES

Off-brand MR-2 (AW11). It's not a replica so I can freely change whatever I want, and I'm also not forced to find references. One thing is fairly exact, and that is the torque curve, which comes from Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Drift 2.

I went to try and program a CVT. The funky bendy transmission can produce a gear ratio low enough to get barely above idling RPM at 80 km/h, which is good for efficiency.

The CVT in this car works first by picking a target RPM. This is calculated based on the engine throttle. Next, the target gear ratio to get the engine to that RPM can be found based on the current RPM of the powered wheels. We can then command the virtual CVT to change its gear ratio gradually towards a target. Instead of a constant rate of change of the gear ratio, which causes slow reaction of the CVT at low speeds, I used a constant rate of change of the inverse gear ratio. The FT is really convoluted for such a simple task, maybe someone has done it better before.

In addition, the MT mode is available for those who like racing with it, and allows for engine braking. The MT gear is selected by finding the next MT gear ratio that is larger than the current CVT gear ratio. There was a bug where even though the MT gear selector setter works by itself, the 6th gear would be chosen incorrectly. I managed to fix it after a lot of guesswork, and I don't know what change fixed it. I also found some other code that could have been wrongly writing a value of 0 to the gear ratio variable.

I also went to make a MacPherson strut suspension for this car. It's not tuned or calculated in any way, nor is it copied from a real suspension setup, so a standard spring setup might be better.

The turning speeds are similar to ALPACA, but this car is more than twice as fast. In addition, the wheels have low grip multipliers. It can be difficult to drive on tight tracks. It is much easier to drive in the Eco or Sports modes instead of the Racing mode, and you might want to change the CVT mode depending on where you are on the racetrack.

Now, on to visual details. The license plates use images from Japanese License Plate Generator. Some information was copied from the plate that was used on ALPACA.

The interior references not just the MR-2. I found that I have downloaded pictures of the ISUZU PIAZZA's interior before, so I used some elements from it.

Lastly, there was a point where I felt that the project was overstaying its welcome, plus I was still learning and planning throughout the build process (especially early on), so there may be variations in the level of detail.
