Users: Soviet Navy
In Commission: 1972-1994
A common name for four submarines that formed the backbone the Soviet and later Russian navy's strategic submarine fleet, the Delta class was intially authorized for development in 1965. Carrying the R-29 missile, the original Delta class surpassed the preceding Yankee in its ability to patrol farther from the American coastline while still being within striking range. This meant they no longer had to pass western SOSUS sonar barriers in order to come within range of their missiles.
Three more variants would be developed, the Delta II, III, and IV's later coming into service in time after. The early Delta's would serve until the 1990's when decommissioning would start. Although they were originally to be replaced by the Typhoon class, its expenses would see it decommissioned and many of the Delta's reactivated.

I made an attempt to make a practical and functional RPK-2 but unfortunately I couldn't make it work in an intuitive manner. I might make the version that launches torpedoes at some point, but those apparently were launched from 650mm tubes, which the Delta I didn't have. Still, managed to come out working well after I fixed issues with the Missile snagging.

Also yes I decided to try for a Wednesday night upload, see how that might go. That'll mean no sub this Friday, since I don't wanna tire peeps of my uploads. I might have a certain torpedo uploaded this week though, and next Friday will come an very special kind of submarine.

@ArcturusAerospace The yaw and trim control setup is unorthodox. Mainly exists out of a desire to separate their controls from those of the submarine. Thinking for any future Boomer sub I might switch to an inertial guidance system with rotators and gyros, get rid of the wings for something that'll in theory be a more stable and less glitch prone system. Taking cues from this cool system.

@Nuclearbomber36 Thinking I might go for it in the interest of making it with a Poseidon torpedo.

@Nuclearbomber36 I'll consider adding that to the list, see if I can find some good blueprints/ref pics

@MarshallLewisAerospace I would love to see what you build with these parts! I myself use an engine based on one used from another sub, so being one who has learned from other builds myself I am more than happy to see someone attempt to do so from mine!

@MintLynx Thanks for the info! Unfortunately I cannot mod since I made the mistake of using the app store version on my desktop. However I have had some success with adding parts off of this build and the Skipjack to my subassembly inventory, and have had some success in some test designs. If you don't mind, I may build some fictional designs using some of your parts. If they ever get uploaded, I will make sure to credit you for all the amazing parts and input.

@FoxtrotBeta Now that could be an intereresting idea, I'll consider adding it to the requests.

@MintLyn Great work on these submarines, the functionality and detail are amazing. Would love to see the Podmoskovye or Belgorod with the Losharik special mission sub attached. Keep up the great work!

@MarshallLewisAerospace I'd love to! :D My system is based on replicating the real functions of submarines those are...
    .
1)Neutral buoyancy: making the sub's standard buoyancy as close to 'neither sinking nor floating' as possible. Where the buoyancy and gravity cancel eachother out. This is the heart of my submarine's function.
I generally use two fuselage pieces arranged to ensure level buoyancy and use Overload to adjust the value. I then spawn the submarine to see whether it sinks or floats, then I return to builder and adjust accordingly, spawn into level, and repeat until I get the desired result.
    .
2)Hydroplanes: Control surfaces on the front and rear of the submarine which are used for pitch control when the sub's in forward motion. (just like the elevators on an airplane).
I generally use rotators pivoting specific fuselage pieces with wings inserted. On a large build like this one I set the wing to have a very high width then scale it down via overload. (wings retain most of their properties even when scaled down).
    .
3)Rudder control: Instead of simply using the Yaw power from a Gyro, I use a naturally functioning rudder. In order to ensure the submarine's direction of travel is changed with steering I add a hidden second rudder (wing on rotator) in the front. This creates counteracting forces much like the hydroplanes and thus properly steers the sub.
    .
4)Propulsion: I use an engine based on the one used on This submarine, though simplified into one floppy free spinning rotator, holding two infinite rotators, holding a set of rotators arranged in a circle and nudged into eachother which control the pitch of the attached wings (which act as propeller blades).
I've generally upped the length of those wings and scaled them down to size to make propellers that function in the water but not the air.
    .
5)'Ballast' Control: I put that in quotes because I don't technically change the buoyancy. Before I used a set of VTOL nozzles mounted on a rotator and powered by a separate floating set of engines for pushing the sub up and down. Now I use a piston-and-wing engine which does that job without fuel or a floating eyesore. The idea is for the engine to act on the neutral buoyancy, adding a force to push the sub up or down.
    .
A lot of xml modding goes into the submarine, especially for the more precise touches. Yet I have thought of theories in how those without mods could make submarines the way I do.

So, would you be willing to explain your methodology to me? Because it seems like the ballast tank system you use is different from the normal really long piston with a float at the end I’ve seen on most subs. How did you do it? I want to give this a try for myself if I can...

@MintLynx comment shortcuts are fine as they have nothing to do with voting system. As for upvote links, I'd appreciate if you would stop making them. No need to edit the old posts to remove the existing ones.

@EternalDarkness Ah I see, would you suggest I avoid adding these to future posts then? If so I can certainly do that, and will you want me to do the same for comment shortcuts as well?

@MintLynx it's a bit of a voting system abuse. While not very harmful here, as it clearly looks like an upvote button and thus isn't deceiving anyone, I'd rather not have to filter acceptable and unacceptable cases of upvote links.
