[About Douglas SBD-5 "Dauntless"]
Wikipedia
The Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless was a dive bomber operated by the U.S. Navy during World War II.
The history of the SBD began not with Douglas but with Northrop.
In 1935, Northrop, then a subsidiary of Douglas Aircraft Company, began development of a new dive bomber, the BT-1, a single-engine, two-seat aircraft. It was equipped with distinctive perforated flaps that also served as dive brakes.
Around the time the derivative XBT-2 was developed, Northrop was merged into Douglas Aircraft, and the development of the BT was taken over by Douglas Aircraft and completed as the SBD-2.
The SBD was equipped with advanced retractable landing gear. The aft seat was equipped with a swivel gun seat. It also had dive brakes and flaps, a feature that had been present since the prototype BT. The wings were designed for robustness, with no folding wings, which was unusual for a shipboard aircraft. It was equipped with two 12.7mm machine guns in the nose. Because of its good maneuverability, the SBD was sometimes used for fleet defense missions in addition to its original mission of dive bombing and reconnaissance.
The SBD was adopted by the Navy and Marine Corps and became a key component of their fleet offensive capability. Their most famous wartime action was during the Battle of Midway in June 1942. In this battle, four SBD squadrons sank three of the IJN's mainline aircraft carriers in just six minutes.
As a successor, the SB2U “Vindicator” was developed. However, it is said that pilots preferred the older SBD because the SB2U was difficult to maneuver.
The SBD was operated by the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, U.S. Army Air Corps (adopted as the A-24 Banshee), French Air Force, and New Zealand Air Force. In all, 5936 SBDs were produced.

I have not posted an airplane in quite some time and have created a “Dauntless” which has been requested many times.
I hope you all enjoy it.
@AntonWings could you try and make the Vought OS2U Kingfisher? I think you could cook that up as a masterpiece, especially after your work with all the US Naval aircraft!
First plane in under half a year
If you can do a TBD-1 Devastator that does not stall I will give you all the up votes in the world ( pretty please with A cherry on top)
@WinsWings
Thanks for the comment!!!
I had a hard time deciding how to express the distinctive, perforated dive brake. To keep the number of parts down, I thought it best to express it in a text box.
@TheUltimatePlaneLover
@Randompilot18
Thank you!! :)
@ShinyGemsBro
Sorry for the late reply.
Oh wow...so true. I'm surprised you noticed the glitch. Thank you. You are a great tester.
Sorry for the delay, but I have uploaded the corrected XML.
Great job with the iconic air-brakes. great job as usual
Very nice
New AntonWings post, heck yeah.
@AntonWings
I just found out that the swinging arm carrying the 1000 pound bomb doesn't work because you put the typed in the wrong weapon name for the input.
I copied the bomb name to the rotator FT and now it works fine.
@ShinyGemsBro
Thank you very much! Sorry to keep you waiting.
@EternalDarkness
Thank you!!! I am very happy to hear that :)
erm akchually the dauntless replaced the vindicator, it didn't even have dive brakes as far as im aware (the vind)
FINALLY.
A WELL BUILT DAUNTLESS.
AFTER SO LONG WAITING.
This is insanely detailed for such a low part count. It looks amazing. Good work.
@AntonWings no big deal <3
@WIZARD2017
Specifically, I referred to the photos on this site.

If I have misunderstood something, I would appreciate it if you could let me know :)
@WIZARD2017
Is your question about what the real SBD was like?
If so, the answer is YES. In the pictures I saw of the diving SBD, the middle flap was also deployed. So I made this build to work that way as well.
@LunarEclipseSP
@DeeganWithABazooka
Thank you!! :)
Does the middle flap deploy as well when diving?
That is beautiful
decently well made! <3
