De Bruyere C1

Auto Credit Based on WarHawk95's French Air Force Challenge [Closed]

In 1917, the De Bruyere C1 made it's one, and only, flight. Achieving a ground-breaking 25 feet off of the ground, this aircraft rolled upside down, and glided on its head. Thankfully, the test pilot survived the flight.
The aircraft was anything but a failure, though. The French Air Force had made this plane to test out many unused innovations. Such as:

  • a front canard for pitch (never done before)
  • rotating-tip ailerons (unique and aren't used much, if at all. Very strong though)
  • one of the first planes to have an autocannon as the armament
  • Tricycle landing gear (very rare during the Great War)

Now, this plane, though being VERY far from ordinary, is actually really fun to fly. BE VERY CAREFUL ON PITCH AND ROLL... I'M WARNING YOU but once you get the controls down, this thing is a charm. I'd suggest using down trim, and very gentle movements on the stick. The plane likes to spin and glide, but it can still be smooth.

Speed:

(Technically a 150 HP engine, though we had to improvise to get it to function correctly XD)

Max Speed: 120 mph
Cruise Speed: 90 mph
Stall Speed: 60 mph
Take-Off Speed: 80 mph
FYI: be close to the ground before you pull throttle down and land, and be gentle on take-offs

Weapons:

  • 1916 model 37mm machine gun

Controls:

  • Trim = Trim
  • That's all... nothing too interesting.

SIDE NOTES:

  • First of all, this plane was not done by just I. I couldn't have gotten this frustrating plane done on my own, and the great help of my new comrade @Grroro made this beast possible. I did the fuselage, cockpit, canard, Vertical stabilizer, and physics. Whilst Grroro did the beautiful work on the struts, landing gear, wings, and propeller. All and all, this plane obviously shows why it never became anything huge, but it is still worthy of a lovable mention. Thank you my French friends for this unique beauty.
  • On a side note, this plane is really cool, and I'm SUPER proud of how it came out and also SUPER happy I never have to touch it again XD. It took so long just to get it to get off the ground. But I still love biplanes....

I hope y'all enjoy! And please go check out some of Grroro's builds!!!

@QuesoAirlines Ik it's an autocannon, but it was used in the trenches like a machine gun during WW1

@AWESOMENESS360 thank you so much! I honestly was going for that, and I figure, if it's the first, it should be the best.

I have never seen this before, easily the first on the SP Website! I love when people make unknown and obscure aircraft.
