BV-38 Flying Wing

1,605 Cubensis  2.7 years ago

After nearly four and a half years, the revamped version of my Blohm and Voss BV-38 Flying Wing has finally arrived!

You may recognize this plane from it’s (one and only) appearance in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, where it was shown taxiing in circles and shredding a Nazi mechanic before subsequently exploding during it’s 5 minutes of screen time. I studied the scene thoroughly to make sure this model was as accurate as it could possibly be (I made a few adjustments to make it more stable in flight).

Despite the fact that this is an entirely fictional airplane based off of a movie prop, it handles surprisingly well and flies beautifully.

AG1: Activates rear turret controls and gyroscopic autopilot so you can use the regular flight controls to aim the turret.

TAKE OFF INSTRUCTIONS:
Trim down and throttle up to 100%. After the plane passes 140mph, pull up and retract the landing gear.

LANDING INSTRUCTIONS:
Activate the landing gear and gradually reduce throttle as you descend. Ideally you want to be at about 90mph when you touch down. Activating the landing gear also activates the forward landing lights and the gyroscopic landing assist. This is greatly beneficial and essentially guarantees a perfect landing.

The landing lights can be toggled off with AG 8 if desired.

I am really impressed with this one. You managed to squeeze a mighty fine looking bird out of only 156 parts, a real treat for all the mobile users.

Entire plane was a prop, but I’m sure parts of it were functional @RC1138Boss

It’s strange yes, even by enabling collisions I couldn’t get it to work either. It DOES work on NPC ships and convoys however @franken070

Did they build an actual fake plane or just put a prop on tracks?
