History
The ATP-21 is the result of the collaboration of the design bureau of Mikoyan and MIK Aerospace to update the famous Mig-21. Although roughly looks like a Mig-21, in fact the shape of the wing has been lengthened and optimized to improve maneuverability. The wing height has also been raised slightly to facilitate maintenance on the ground. Although its maximum speed has been reduced, its capacity of post combustion has been improved, that provides instantaneous acceleration to surprise the enemies. The missiles have been revised for better performance, increasing the probability of surviving in air combat. It also includes two cannons at the root of the wings, which improves the accuracy and range of the original. Despite the advantages of the new design, the ATP-21 was built in small series, until the program was canceled in 1992. The ATP-21 is still in service as a support and observation aircraft.
