Space Elevator in Dieselpunk Era

20.2k KatBapa20  one month ago

Successor version of my previous space elevator!

BACKGROUND:

In the dieselpunk era from alternative universe far away from planet Earth...

Before the existence of sapient planes from another world, space elevator has became the most successful invention ever built in the 19XX, made with a lot of passion & joy. Those civilians were interested to visit space elevator, usually to see what's inside of it, especially for those who love to watch stars.
However, this space elevator is of course either way made for VIPs & presidents for usually planning important discussions about their next objectives, which they'll be only located on the top of space elevator, that nobody , not even pilots can reach to space for a reason.

This was until.. the sapient planes suddenly appeared from out of nowhere in next 23 years later. for humans, it's unknown what exactly they want, but most people assumed that they're here to destroy anything they see for entertainment purposes, while the sapient planes themselves, their goals/motivations is otherwise quite different to humans, since they know a little about them.

The situation has been becoming really dangerous, that they decided to call engineers to build anti-air turrets & any defense weapon to prevent upcoming enemies and then they announced to civilians to stay their houses safe so, nobody would get injured.
This also includes defending space elevator for obvious reasons.

"I wonder what's behind of all this alien invasion?"
-One of civilians

architecture wise, I can't speak of, but I think there's quite a lot still standing in the US for examples, Empire State Building's I think is one of them? it has an airship docking port at the tip of I recall correctly, so it's overall very dieselpunky

ah, just a little more.. for colours(specifically for vehicles), pick either a muted neutral-dark colour(think of like, the spectrum of grays), a colour you'd see on a warbird(not too bright, for the most part.), or fancy shiny rich people colours for like the high-ends(think of like, shiny gold highlights at edges or something, or shiny aluminium/silver/stainless steel)

@KatBapa20 chill, I personally sometimes bridge-and-mix steampunk-dieselpunk also, it's honestly a matter of taste for the most part, but there are guidelines for what specifically it is.
    .
and about that, Dieselpunk mainly is centered around the 20-40s for significant amount of times, so think of like, warbirds, zeppelins, oil-fired battleships and such.
    .
and for architecture? you'd find it between either "Art Deco" or "Brutalist", sometimes Art Noveau(kinda the predecessor of art deco in a way) but mostly Art Deco. Art Deco's a nice style of architecture i tell you, fancy, vintage, and classy.. and Brutalist is just Brutalist, no regards for form, mainly just function(a very real and rough example? soviet-era Khrushchevka.)

@Monarchii Thank you for enjoying my work!
    .
By the way, i admittedly confused dieselpunk as otherwise (like Atompunk you mentioned for example) not what's actually about dieselpunk and also, there are so many punks which are so specific i barely bother to learn about all of them so, my apologies for my silly misunderstanding about dieselpunk itself.
    .
    I guess i shouldn't have tried to learn what's dieselpunk :<

I must say first and foremost, great work!
    .
however, as with @ThomasRoderick said, it is more closer to Atompunk. I think it'll blend well if it uses a more muted.. bland colours per say, gray and whatnot.
    .
personally also, I think it does not have enough of that.. dieselpunk flare. where's the excessive amount of point defense guns! the decorative spotlights! the equally-important but often missed rangefinders! the chimneys and funnels to bellow diesel and oil smoke! the very well very important excessive amounts of docking space(if it's me anyway) for airships! there's quite many really ;3
    .
still gotta commend ya though, this bangs.

.... have to say the general aesthetics is much closer to atompunk / raygun-gothic than dieselpunk (as exemplified by the more vivid colors, sharper contrast, and bubble-like shapes); your previous space elevator is solidly within the modern minimalist "iPod" design style.
    .
Reference: steampunk ≈ pre-WWI, brass pipes, steam engines, pressure gauges, exposed cogs and pistons; dieselpunk ≈ interwar, diesel/gasoline engines, fairings and streamlining, radiators, utilitarian "form follows function" designs; atompunk ≈ early Cold War, vibrant colors, bubble windows, exaggerated aerodynamic features, with an emphasis on space travel.

@ShinyGemsBro To be fair, logically saying it would definitely work if you just aim directly on the elevator itself
