Description

The General Motors Electro-Motive Diesel General Purpose 9 is a B+B wheel arrangement medium duty diesel electric locomotive built between 1954 and 1959 as EMD's second GP locomotive, succeeding the GP7. It had 1,750hp and a tractive effort of 64,750lbf and was used as an early mainline locomotive and later as a yard switcher in many Class 1 freight railways. Southern Pacific used them extensively to move around rolling stock after production finished and also used them to pull a limited amount of passenger trains. All remaining GP9s in service are on specially operated excursion railways or are operational museum pieces. While most of them had high short hoods, some later GP9s had low short hoods to provide better visibility for the crew and some rail operators modified their GP9s themselves in the same manner. This example is Southern Pacific 5641, based off of one of my O scale GP9s of the same number. The other is a non-powered unit numbered 5642.

Couplers have buttons above them for attaching rolling stock. Coupling is a bit finnicky but definitely possible with enough patience. Use slow motion when coupling.
