Flyfabrikken FA-10 Jerv

This is another "what if" scenario, based on the same lines as my Advanced Jet Trainer challenge entry.

My thinking is this;

In light of the success of the AT-9 Gaupe project, the RnoAF (Royal Norwegian Air Force) has approached the newly re-established Kjeller Flyfabrikken to create a proposal for a strike fighter, based on the proven AT-9 airframe.

The goal is to replace the existing high hour RnoAF F-16s with an indigenous type in the deep attack / interdiction role, eventually phasing the US imported type out completely thus leaving the air superiority role to the newly delivered F-35s.

An additional intention is to create a viable competitor to SAABs various types on the export market, as if there is one thing a Norwegian hates, it is to play second fiddle to a Swede.

The result is the Flyfabrikken FA-10 Jerv (Wolverine). The brief to re utilise as much of the AT-9 airframe as possible turned out to be more of a hinderance than a help. The wing of the AT-9 was not suited to high subsonic speeds and the fuselage needed extensive re work to fit the uprated turbojets (there was simply no room what so ever for turbofans). Effectively, there is less than 30% commonality between the two types.

The family dna is still prevalent in the handling, however. The FA-10 is a very nimble aeroplane but retains the stability of the AT-9. The FA-10 can carry a larger payload faster, further (with drop tanks) then deliver it with killer accuracy.

Operation of this type is very simple and it quite simply will not spin.

Action group 1 drops the external tanks. 2 drops the inner fuselage stores, 3 the inner wing stores, 4 the outer wing stores. 5 turns on the beacons and 6 deploys the drouge chute.

Have fun og lykke til.

    Thanks. Did anyone get the BAC TSR-2 / SEPECAT Jaguar vibe with this one? They were my main influences, you see.
