AJTC Flyfabrikken AT-9 Gaupe

Auto Credit Based on mikoyanster's Advanced Jet Trainer Challenge [FINISHED]

My Advanced Jet Trainer Challenge entry.

This is a "what if" scenario whereby the RnoAF, after purchasing the F-35 at enormous cost, realise that their current inventory of SAAB Safari piston trainers and the few F-16B two seat Fighting Falcons cannot provide sufficient advanced training for aircrew to safely operate such a complex type.

Additionally, as tensions between Russia and the west grow, there is seemingly a need for an inexpensive close support / emergency fighter to bolster the few F-35s and ageing F-16As on inventory.

After a long evaluation procedure, it is decided to re open "Kjeller Flyfabrikken", based at Kjeller airfield, outside Oslo, to develop and produce a domestic type to fulfill the advanced trainer/close support/emergency fighter role, rather than depend solely on the USA for advanced jet types.

The result of this is the Flyfabrikken AT-9 Gaupe (Lynx).

A twin engined, two seat, high wing advanced jet trainer. Simplicity, flexibility, ruggedness and agility were the key focuses of the development brief. The Gaupe has all of these atributes and more.

Capable of providing advanced "follow on" training to pilots in the RnoAF F-35 program, delivering iron bombs, ASMs and rocket ordinance with high accuracy and dogfighting on par with most gen 4+ fighters, the Gaupe delivers.

Action group 1 drops the external tanks. 2 drops the outer wing stores, 3 the inner wing stores. 4 turns on the beacons, 5 the Landing lights. 6 deploys the drouge parachute.

Other than that this is a very easy kite to fly.

Have fun og lykke til.

(That last bit was Norwegian...)

Thanks guys. I looked closely at the BAE Hawk, Dornier Alphajet and the Kawasaki T-4 for inspiration. I figured that they are very stable crates, so if I followed same dimensions my creation would have more or less the same handling characteristics. I think the stall characteristics are particularly good; I have tried and tried but it just wont spin.

Very stable and exceltional handling! It would be a great lightweight attack aircraft. I also like your detailed description. Its great to see other users creating interesting stories about their creations.
